Wednesday Wafflings

Hello everyone,

Again it`s a beautiful day here.  But I`ve not had much time to enjoy it just yet.  I`ve been doing the washing and housework all morning, then of course walking Jake, well I did enjoy it then.  Dog walking was really pleasant with any snappy dogs or nasty owners, in fact I didn`t see anyone with a dog this morning.  Jake and I didn`t mind as I had to go to the Post Office so we had a nice country walk.  When I got there however, the queue was endless and I didn`t want to tie Jake outside for that long so I carried on walking and I`ll go again tomorrow.

When I got up this morning there was an enormous bee in the kitchen.  It must have got in earlier when Jim let Jake out.  It wasn`t one of our nice gentle honey bees but a much bigger and more agressive variety.  I eventually managed to get it outside after some gentle persuasion.  I wasn`t at all sure that I wouldn`t get stung by it as it was getting angrier by the minute.  They do say our native bees are dying out and being replaced by invaders from abroad, that`s such a shame as they are a symbol of Summer.

I`m not sure what this shrub is called but it dies down in Autumn and comes back bigger and better each Spring.

This is one of three Acers.  I moved it from it`s original position two years ago because it wasn`t doing very well.  Ithas really thrived since.

This is an Acer Palmatum, it`s my favourite of the three because of it`s deep red colouring.

Just to let you know that I didn`t take a photo of the third Acer because it`s in the corner where the rat run is and there are an ugly pile of bricks and wood blocking it.  When we finally trap ratty I take a photo of it, the Acer, not ratty....lol!

We`ve haven`t heard anymore from the carpet fitter, Jim`s been hoping there`d be a cancellation and we`d get the carpet fitted before next Tuesday. The problem is that without any stair carpet I keep impaling my feet on the grippers that have been left.  We`re both really careful how we walk up and downstairs but occasionally I forget and I`ve got various small puncture marks to prove it, Jim`s either more careful or it may be because he`s got bigger feet, because he`s got away with it so far...lol!  It`ll be lovely to walk upstairs without any shoes or slippers on.

Well I must go now, Roman will be here in 45 mins and I want to do a couple of things first.  I hope you all have a great day, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Inheritance

Father:  Our son gets his exceptional brains from me, don`t you think?

Mother:  Probably, mine were still in place last time I checked!

Important sign

Do not walk past the end of the pier.

Drinking song

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.

Dogs and Cats

Animals are great levellers - they help you keep a true sense of proportion about your importance.  So to achieve the right balance, your should have a dog that will worship you and a cat that will ignore you.

Ouch on the feet on the stairs, be careful. That first plant is a Campanula Sandra, they are so pretty, I have one as well but it flowers later in the year.  I have been sitting in the garden but even with sunscreen I started to go red so I am cooling off now.  Yes, I heard that about bees so next year (it is a bit late for this year) I am going to buy a beebox.  They encourage our  native bees inside with some attractant.  You do not get a big bees nest.  You can get the from the RSPB and other places, also ladybird boxes.  Had I felt better earlier on I would have been more organised.

The bee's are important for pollination of certain crops.    The invading African bee's are a menace and can be lethal.    A woman in Texas had a swarm in the tiling of her pool.    She said a neighbor had a 30 foot long nest inside their roof area that had to be removed and their dog was stung to death.   I got stung by two large yellow and black insects that attacked me walking down the lane.   I could not find my epi-pen and I went to see if I had a refill at the pharmacy, and a person there said my neck and face were bright red and I could tell my breathing was effected.     My neighbor said his friend got rid of the nest somehow that was within 20 feet of where I was stung.     Then in my shed a bunch of regular size bee's were congregating and flying in and out of a coal/wood stove sitting there and I got the spray insectacide and used the whole can and they were still flying around but then the next day there was no more.    Then I have the large bumble bee looking "boring bee's" that do not attack and sting.    They get into the wood trusses in my barn and bore into the wood.    There is some places that I will have to reinforce because of the damage year after year.   I enjoyed the Acers.        mark

The flowers you showed are beautiful. My mom would love having those in the yard. Tell Roman and the family I said hello. Take care.
