A "Good Things" Day

Hello everyone,  At last the sun is shining...Hurrah,Whoopee and Hallelujah!  At last Summer may really be heading our way....or perhaps not, we`ll see.  That`s one good thing to happen today.

I was up at 6am this morning and out of the house by 8am.  I was in Tesco by 8.15 and whizzing around the shelves buying only what was on my list, give or take the odd item or two,  and I was home again at 9.20 all without a hitch, no traffic hold ups, nothing.  I couldn`t quite believe it myself as I usually get caught in traffic whatever time I shop.  That`s another good thing.

Jim keeps reminding me to ring our local council to register for a green wheelie bin for our garden waste.  I rang the number on the side of our recycling box and registered for it.  The woman who took my call told me she was new to her job and didn`t seem to know very much about it all.  After taking my name and address she insisted on calling me Sandra, I hate that when you don`t know someone.  She went on to tell me that I will have to wait until September for the bin but that I can pick up some special bags to put the grass etc. in until it has been delivered, and went on to explain where I they can be obtained from, then she told me to ring another number to find out the collection date.  I rang the number and the woman who answered said she didn`t know where I got my info from but it was completely wrong.  She told me that the bags are not being used anymore since the introduction of the green bins and could I tell her the number of the dept. that gave me the original info and that she`d ring back in a moment.  When she called back she told me that they denied any knowledge of my call and that everyone in the dept. knows what they`re doing...ok right!  Anyway to cut an already long story short, we have to late until sometime in the late Summer for our wheelie bin.  Another good thing to happen, even if it took ages to sort out...lol!

Going back to Tuesday when I had my hair cut.  Jim noticed it straight away, even if it was only to say, and I quote:  "There`s something different about your hair, it looks alright."  A compliment indeed, especially as I heard him say to Kerry after I heard her say, " Mum`s hair looks nice doesn`t it?"   Jim:  " Yeh, I was telling her it really looks smashing."   Oh no you didn`t, hubby of mine! I suppose that was another good thing...I think!

I bought these Oriental Lilies last Thursday and they haven`t completely opened up yet.  I really do like lilies and I think these are so pretty.  Because they have kept so well I didn`t buy any flowers this morning as is usual for me.  I love having fresh flowers in the house and Tesco have such a good range at low prices so that I`m often spoiled for choice.  Kerry took Roman to the doctor to check a few things before taking him to Russia.  Things are very different there including the water which nobody drinks straight from the tap, not even adults.  It`s best to be safe than sorry and Kerry needed to be sure that he didn`t need any extra injections or health tips before leaving a week next Tuesday.  Also Little Man is shedding his skin where the eczema has cleared from his tummy and arms so that needed to be checked too.  All in all he`s doing really well and his skin is continuing to improve slowly but surely.  And yes,  it was another really good thing!

What wasn`t good and is still making me cross was another job rejection letter this morning, again without even giving me an interview.  Well, thankyou, very famous British turf accountants beginning with the letter L, thanks so much for being the cause of the only bad thing to happen to me so far today.  I didn`t really want to work there because I don`t smoke and  bookies shops are full of smoke, but I wanted an interview because I need the practise! :o) :o)

Ok, well I`m off to catch up with reading journals.  Have a lovely day won`t you, take it easy and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Just a Giggle

What`s the difference between dogs and cats?

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

A man with two left feet goes into a shop and says,

" Have you got any flip-flips?"

A man walked into a bar with a lump of asphalt under his arm.  "What will it be?" asked the barman.  " A whisky and soda," said the man, "and one for the road."

I suppose you won't really need a bin so much for garden waste by September but it'll be there for next year! I hate that too when people I don't know talk to me and call me Jeannette. Far to informal and very bad mannered. Jeannette xx

Stargazers! The lilies that is, what Angela had for her wedding. Councils are a law to themselves so I try to avoid all contact if possible!!!

My mom always wanted to be addressed as "Mrs..." and we were taught in nursing school to always address patients formally unless they give us permission to address them by their first names.  I think it's just more courteous.
Sorry about the job not working out.  That's always so disappointing.  Beautiful picture of your lilies.  I love the colors!
Have a good evening.

We had  a sunny day today too but a cold wind still  glad you had such a good day with everything going well with the execption of the non interview. I used to work in a bookies years ago and loved it it was an adventure every day that was in the bad old days when I was a smoker.  Read in the papers this week they have banned smoking at Tea in the Park our big outdoor concert this year, don't know if you will have heard of it.  Have a good evening Love Joan.

Your Oriental Lilies are called Star Gazers here in the U.S.  My daughter-in-law carried them the day she married my son.  They are one of my favorites, too.   Enjoy your weekend!

Sorry about the rejection from "L"...my cousin works in one here.(..a bit of useless info for you there) Also here in Scotland smoking is BANNED in the workkplace, pubs, places beginning with "L" ,bus shelters, in fact everyplace except the street, prisons and Police interview rooms and it seems in  the near furure smoking will be banned in your own car!  Fortunately i don't smoke.  Lorry drivers are banned from smoking in their cab even on their own..until they get to the border and then they can light up and smoke all they like in England in their lorry cab. Sorry about all that i got carried away!!  Glad you had a good day.  Eve

How pretty the lilies are!  I'm with you on the chummy first name from a stranger business.  Still, "Sandra" is better than "deary" or "lady" I think.

Hi Sandra,
Your flowers are so pretty. I would love to see your new hair cut, you will have to put a picture in your journal.  :)
Sorry I haven't been around much; working too much. It is HOT here for the first time this "spring" ..... It had been raining for 2 weeks straight and chilly, but now it is 90 degrees in the shade. But I LOVE warm weather.

Love and Hugs,
Sharon

You'll love your bin (when & if you ever get it).  Here where I am we have three rolling bins.  One for regular garbage, picked up at my house every Friday.  One for yard waste (grass clippings, dead flowers, branches etc-no dirt or rocks) picked up every other Thursday and finally one for recycleable stuff like newspapers, old magazines, any paper, cardboard boxes-flattened,  empty plastic water, soda bottles, degergent containers, etc. (lids go in the garbage can) and aluminum cans, such as soda cans & empty soup or vegetable cans.  Of course they ask that cans, etc be rinsed out well but I'm sure that some people do not do that.  That bin is emptied every other Monday.  I admit I have a hard time remembering when to put the yard waste & recyle bins out.  Finally had to mark my calendar.  Lovely graphics..Linda in Washington

Glad you got the wheelie bin sorted.  Men, they really are not very complimentary at times but at least he noticed lol. I love those lilies, I have just planted some bulbs up, well about a week ago, not one sign of anything happening yet but then it has been so cold.  Did you know they are very dangerous to cats though, those lilies?  Glad Roman is doing much better, that is nice to hear.  Sorry about the rejection letter.  Well, it is their loss. I have posted today but have decided to only post about one day a week for the forseeable future unless something really great has to be told.  All these hours on the computer have been wrecking my back and neck and I have been told I have to cut down.  Maybe just as well as I am really stuck for ideas. Cannot keep posting endless pictures of the boys and the dogs.  Have a great weekend despite the awful weather xxxxx
