My Weekend in a Nutshell

Hello everyone,

Before I start today`s entry proper. I want to tell you about Jan`s (Serendipity) special news.  AOL have chosen her blog to promote silver surfers who have journals and she`ll be featured on their homepage this week.

Today though Jan`s PC has serious problems and she is waiting for an engineer to call, though unfortunately he can`t call until Tuesday.  It would be lovely if you could pay her journal a visit to offer congratulations, I`m sure you`re all as happy for her as I am.  She would be really pleased to hear from you.

Right now, the other thing that I want to tell you is about Daisy`s Day.  Remember last week, I told you about the fete that Kerry and I visited, it was to raise money for the Children`s Liver Disease Foundation and the children`s ward at King`s College Hospital in London.  Well, the local paper has printed an article and it seems that day alone raised £12,000.  Also many people have signed up to become donors which was another reason why the occasion has been such a success.  Raising awareness was a very important part of Daisy`s Day.

This is five year old Daisy Halfacre and her mother Lynn, she desperately needs a liver transplant.

Apparently between the two charities they hope to have raised a final figure of £25,000 once money raised from complementary events and donations have been counted. I wish them every success.

Back to everyday events now. I haven`t posted since Friday because I just haven`t had time.  On Friday morning I was busy shopping and going out and about with Kerry. In the afternoon we went to Windsor for a browse around the shops and a walk by the river.  That came to an abrupt halt when Kerry became unwell.  We went straight home so she and Roman could get some sleep, it seems as if she had picked up Roman`s virus.  Oh dear, the joys of motherhood!

Yesterday, despite being on antibiotics, Roman was poorly again so he had to see an emergency doctor in the afternoon.  The doctor was a really nice man and after thoroughly examing him he told Kerry that the antibiotics had been prescribed needlessly and that they were actually making his condition worse.  He said babies, unlike adults suffer very differently from these viruses. They call them `rotor` viruses as they work their way through the body and affect seemingly every part, while adults seem to get either gastric symptoms or nasal/ throat problems.  Roman`s chest and throat problems are clearing up but he has a very poorly tummy and isn`t allowed milk for the foreseeable future.  He thinks that will clear up more quickly once the antibiotics have cleared from his system. Jim went round to see them this morning and he said Little Man is a bit better today after eating a small amount of breakfast.

Last night Kerry cooked dinner for Jim and I despite still not being completely well herself.  I told her to cancel but she wouldn`t hear of it so we all had a nice dinner and a relaxing evening. I spent some time loading software in her computer and showing her a thing or two about AOL.  I might try to get her to start a journal...it`s worth a try.

This morning was spent on the telephone and doing a huge pile of ironing so I can`t believe how quickly the day has shot by.  I thought I`d get this entry done while I have the time because Kerry returns to work this afternoon after three days on rest. I`m sure if we ask the government they`d give us another hour in the day, perhaps not, they`d only charge us for the privilege...lol!

It only remains now for me to wish our American friends a very Happy Mother`s day, it seems ages since we celebrated ours way back in March. I hope all of you, wherever you are have a very enjoyable day. Take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Jokes  for you

A muffin walks into a bar and orders a beer.  The bartender replies, "Sorry, we don`t serve food here."

A man tried to smuggle 100 rolls of toilet paper out of a shop by rolling them around his head. But then again, this may be a turban myth.

It is good that the doctor found the cause of Roman's illness as the other doctor had misdiagnosed his condition.   His being able to eat some breakfast is good.    I wish Daisy the best and that she will be able to get the liver transplant.     mark

Hi, great news about Jan, thanks Sandra.Poor Roman, and I agree that children suffer differently from adults as my son had the 'rotor' viruses as a child. I didn't want him to have antibiotics because I was scared incase he would become immune to them in later life.I used to give him Calpol if he had a temp. but never took any chances and there isn't a doctor in the country that would turn a sick child away, even if it was a minor thing. I am sure he will soon be well, and I wish him well.

I phoned  Jan on thursday, she was so excited about it!! Trust her computer to play up now! I hope she can get it sorted when the man comes to fix it on tuesday. I hope Kerry and Roman will soon be well, it'd be nice for Kerry to have a journal, when will she find time to do entries?!! I'm glad they raised so much for Daisy's day, it rained too didn't it? I bet they would have made a lot more if it hadn't. Have a good week. Jeannette xxxx

Oh well done our Jan, will pop over and leave congrats in a mo :o)
Reading here about Daisy, and seing her picture reminds me very much of a little girl - my Brothers half Sister, Heidi - that I knew, still know, though she's not such a little girl anymore.  She was around the same age as Daisy when she had her liver transplant.  Can not believe that she's in her 20's now!!
Hope both Kerry and Roman feel much better soon.

Wonderful that Daisy Day raised so much money and attracted donors as well.  They did very well. Yes, I am thrilled for Jan, let us hope it encourages more people along to J-Land.  Poor little Roman.  I know that Becky's doctor will not prescribe antibiotics for tots unless absolutely necessary.  Hope Kerry feels better soon.
