TEMPUS FUGIT
Was that my lifetime passing by
At such an unrelenting pace,
While I endeavoured to take flight
In skies of liberating space,
And if it was, should I accept
How time has ultimately swept
Me from securities embrace?
If only time could be reversed
And replayed at a slower speed,
If only deeds had been undone
That were preoccupied with greed
If only my lips had rehearsed
Their lines before each curtain call,
Perhaps I`d quietly reflect
On life with fondness after all.
Was that my lifetime passing by
Into uncertain destiny,
While I let many friendships die
Through lack of care and empathy,
And if it was, should I review
How time can easily undo
The fabric of my sanity
If only I had rearranged
The pages of my fleeting life
If only all my faults had been
Erased or severed with some knife
If only harmony and peace
Had overwhelmed my bleeding heart,
Perhaps I would be more aware
Of love, and how its torn apart.
Was that my lifetime passing by
Across a landscape of desires,
While I continued to defy
The truth that only faith acquires,
And if it was, should I believe
How time can stealthily deceive
A man until his will expires?
If only I had righted wrongs
And heeded other people`s plight,
If only dreams had manifest
Themselves in spiritual light,
If only time`s advancing years
Had for a while retreated,
Perhaps I would be hankering
For life to be repeated!
