Shopping, Chilly Winds and Weeding

Hello everyone,

It`s been another beautiful day here, though STILL we have a very cold wind.  It`s okay in the sun, it was quite hot where it was sheltered but while I was out with Jake this morning I was freezing....please let the wind die down, if only so another one of our fence panels doesn`t get blown down!  Jim reckons on about six replacement panels this year already.

I felt quite out of sorts this morning, not ill but just rather low. I have no idea why but nothing went smoothly until about lunchtime when I felt a lot more cheerful.  It was my shopping day and I did think that Tesco would be almost empty as usual but I couldn`t believe it when I got there. There were loads of people there and at only 8am but as I pushed my way through the throng the crowds thinned out and I continued my shopping in peace.  They must have seen me coming and thought better of getting in my way...lol!  I`ve been buying the ingredients for Jim`s birthday meal and cake for the end of the month.  I have to be pretty sneaky about it and I told him a few fibs about why the bill was a bit higher than usual.  The only thing is I hope he doesn`t find the fillet steak in the freezer and want it for his lunch one day.  I`m making a Guinness cake from a Nigella Lawson recipe, and for the meal I`ll be making Beef Stroganov from Rick Stein`s recipe.  Luckily they`re both tried and tested so I`m not worried how they`ll turn out.

Kerry saw the doc this afternoon who told her it was her eyesight causing the problem.  She has an appointment at the Opticians tomorrow to see if she needs glasses for using the computer at work etc.  She left Roman with me as he`d fallen aaleep and we watched ( sorry...I watched...lol!)  CBeeBees.  He did wake up when The Shiny Show came on though and did his version of a dance to the theme tune (which incidently, I can`t get out of my head...lol!)

Later on when Kerry and Roman went home I spent an hour in the garden weeding and tidying up some shrubs.  I made quite a bit of headway and I intend to do the same tomorrow until the ground is weed-free and the shrubs are all cut back. I`ve lost three shrubs over the winter period but I`m not bothered about them as they weren`t my favourites.  In fact, I was quite pleased about the lavender because I intended to get rid of it anyway, now it will come up easier with too much digging.  The other two I can`t remember what they`re called but I only paid a £1 each for them so I can always replace them if need be.  I often have a look in the sale section of the garden centre because even though some of the plants look past their best, sometimes all they need a a good soak and a tidy up and they grow really well.  I bought my lilies that way and they have thrived.

Well, I`ll say goodbye for now.  Enjoy what`s left of today and take care. :o)

Sure wish the weather would warm up for you.  It is just now starting to feel like spring here in Virginia.  Hope Kerry will soon get those glasses and feel better....

HiLARious mouse!  You have the best graphics.  You have mentioned one of my favourite efforts...salvage plants.  I love to pick up plants that are on their last legs and see if I can revive them..I've gotten pretty good at it.  I have SIX pots of Dragonwing Begonia that I can't kill.  LOL.  I have an Asparagus Plant that I can't kill.  There're a couple others too.  LOL ;)  C.  http://journals.aol.com/gdireneoe/thedailies
