As Winter Returns

Hello everyone,

Welcome to a cold and windy Tuesday.  It seems almost as though Winter hasn`t finished with us quite yet as there was a frost this morning and the wind is really nippy.  I think it`s going to rain soon too but hopefully not yet as my washing on the line is almost dry.

Roman was very unsettled until he went home last night.  Kerry told me this morning that Slava gave him some Calpol and it seemed to do the trick as he slept until morning after that.  Apparently Roman is back to his happy little self this morning and I asked Kerry had she looked to see if the tooth was completely through.  She said she hadn`t so I`m hoping that when I see her later she will confirm my suspicions for me.

Jim came home at about 7.30 last night after having a wonderful day fishing.  He said at one point Steve caught a 13 pound carp he had difficulty holding it as it was really a really fiesty character.  Jim went into fits of laughter as he was trying to take a photo and needed Steve to keep still, but the more he laughed he made Steve laugh and consequently the fish wriggled even more.  Eventually the photo was taken and the carp returned to the lake obviously very glad to get away.  My nephew Adam caught a little baby carp, much to his annoyance.  It was all of 3 inches long so Jim took the photo anyway.  He did catch a few bigger roach but he wanted his photo taken with a larger carp of Jim`s.

Adam and his tiny carp (left) and with Jim`s carp on the left.

Steve`s 13 pounder.

Jim and his carp.  Another 13 pounder in themain picture.

While checking my garden again today I found that my two new cherry trees of last year are definitely dead.  I thought they were some time ago but hoped against hope that they are late bloomers but sadly they`re not and we`ll (meaning Jim) will be digging them up soon.  Of course I know the reason is Jake and his inability to distinguish between a tender young sapling and an old oak tree, or for that matter a flippin` great lamppost!  We did our best to protect the trees but the toxic waste must have travelled through the ground to the roots...sigh.  Oh well, back to the drawing board for some new ideas about what to plant in our `quiet` area at the back of the garden.

Well I`ll say goodbye for now.  I want to get our evening meal prepared before Kerry arrives with Roman at five.  I know it`s hours away yet but the sooner it`s done the sooner I can sit back down at the PC again.  Enjoy the rest of your day and please take care.  Bye Bye for now. :o)

Great pictures of the fish and the fishing party. Those are really big fish. I don't believe I have ever seen a baby carp. Glad Roman was feeling better this morning. Hope the rest of your day goes well. Helen

Sandra  Lovely pictures of Jim Steve and Adam with their catch ~ they certainly look beautiful healthy Carp ~  Shame about your Cherry Trees ~ I'm sure Jake didn't mean to kill them ~ perhaps you should replace them with a Lamppost or two ~ do hope Romans tooth comes through soon ~ and thank goodness for Calpol ~ Ally

Lovely pictures Sandra - Steve's 13 pounder looks as though it's saying "ouch". Maybe the answer to Jake's peeing problems is an ornamental fence around trees; if they are surrounded by grass, you could deturf between tree and fence, then fill the area with pea (it's all about Pee's tonight) shingle. Keep laughing.

That carp of Steve's looks quite surprised to be on dry land, looks like he's saying 'Put me back in the water, you're a couple of lunatics!!' I hope you can find a way to stop Jake using them as lamp posts! Jeannette xxxx

Great pictures Sandra, I agree that the carp looks very surprised at being hauled out of the water!  We have bright sunshine but it is bitterly cold. Trouble is when the hot weather does come, we are going to be totally unprepared.  Shame about the cherry trees.  I am sure you will find something suitable and something to put around them so that the toxic waste does not hit them or seep through.  Did they have enough water.  In the first two years of its life, it there is not adquate rainful, you have to water trees to get the roots to establish.
