Hello everyone,
Welcome to Saturday`s Scribbles, this being November 5th, Guy Fawkes or Bonfire Night, there are going to be big organised, firework displays up and down the country. I hope that all who attend have a really good time, as I would were I able to attend this year. Jim is on late shift so that prevents me from going, and I was going to babysit Roman but Kerry isn`t going out now as she doesn`t want to sit in the cinema with a stuffy old cold!
Anyway, I took the precaution of taking Jake for a quick afternoon walk at 2pm, thinking nobody will be setting off fireworks then....how wrong I was. I had barely walked 100 yards from my home when I heard a loud bang, it frightened the life out of me and poor Jake was petrified and tried to run. I managed to get him back. under control and I looked back and saw two men in the front garden of a house, they were aged about 25-30, not young children but grown men, and they must have seen me go by as they were roaring with laughter at the site of us both....I was furious but I just wanted to carry on with our walk, as I didn`t want Jake any more scared than he already was. I carried on as normal as Jake knows the short route we take, he kept his head down all the way, not even bothering to cock his leg up a lamp post. He stayed like that until we reached the house where he shot in as soon as I started to open the door. When Kerry and Slava arrived an hour later he was still shaking!
I was playing with Roman this afternoon, bouncing him on my knee singing ` The wonderful thing about Tigger`! He loved it too, he didn`t stop laughing, he`s such a funny little thing. Kerry has just started to give him a couple of spoons of baby rice, weaning spoons that it, she says he loves it and would eat more if she let him. Where is the time going? It seems only yesterday that he was born, but he has changed so much in three and a half months, and each day is equally precious. Kerry took him to the doctor about his dry skin and he DOES have excema. He has been given steroid cream that must be used very sparingly, and oatmeal cream and something to put in his bath. The doctor wants to see him in two weeks to see if there is a marked improvement. She is a really nice doctor and Kerry was really pleased with the way she dealt with Roman, strangely though, her views are totally at odds with the Health Visitor, but Kerry is happy to go along with the doctor`s opinion here.
Going back to Jake, a funny thing happened yesterday. I went with Kerry to the chemist to get Roman`s prescription filled, next door is a butcher`s shop, and as we passed it Jake sniffed the door and backed off quickly with his tail between his legs. This happened back in the Summer but I quickly forgot about it, now I really do wonder why this reaction occured....could it be the smell of blood or do dogs have a sixth sense about the way animals die? Whatever the reason he did NOT like the butchers one bit and I`ll make sure I don`t walk him past there again.
Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely restful weekend. Also for those of you who are not feeling too well at the moment, please get better soon. For now, take care.

Poor Jake, bet he was terrified; Sam was bad last night but will probably be a darn sight worse as all the local parks are having their organised 'do's' tonight....3 in the immediate locality! Plus we think Weetabix are having one as well and that is only over the houses from us!!! Batten down the hatches kid, it's gonna be a rough night!!!
Kerry isn`t going out now as she doesn`t want to sit in the cinema with a stuffy old cold!
Sensible and no doubt she don't wanna inflict the cold on other people.
Fireworks were still going off here around 11pm last night.Great Graphics by the way.Have a happy and safe weekend
My guess is that Jake was traumatiized by some event involving the smell of blood--some accident or deliberate cruelty-- before you came along and rescued him. Have as good a weekend as possible with all the noise and stuff.
I'd forgotten it was Nov 5th.......................... ;-)
Sensible of Kerry staying at home - nothing more miserable than a cold....lets hope it gets better soon...It's about time they ended Bonfire night - Seems crazy to me letting off fireworks - with every thing else that is going on in our world...to day..Sandra good luck to night with the Vivis....Ally
Aww, poor Jake, it surprises me every year just how loud some fireworks can be, you forget in between times don't you! My J isn't too happy about it being fireworks night either. You made me smile, when I read about you bouncing Roman on your knee, singing to him. Sounds like one of lifes perfect moments to me :o)

Was just remarking to hubby how little trouble we've had so far with fireworks. Should have known better - seconds later one hit the kitchen window! I'll swing for those kids round the corner from me. Dog is now a trembling blob, poor old girl. Remember "Ban the Bomb"? We should start "Ban the Bang".

Poor Jake being so frightened and by grown men at that. So what was so funny about scaring an animal like that. I know you will be so glad when all the fire works is gone. Hope Kerry will soon feel better. Hope little Roman's meds works for him. Pretty picture and great graphics. I love Tweety Bird Have a good evening. Helen
Strange about the butcher shop
Cant even say ,it will be good when tonights over the wretched bangs seem to continue after Nov 5, Jan xx
Wow...still have the fireworks going!!! We just have one day of fireworks here for the 4th of July. That was so sweet about little Roman and the Tigger song...and it does make you wonder why Jake did what he did with his tail. It sounds like you might be on to something.
Hugs and have a wonderful weekend...what's left of it.

My Persian cat hates the smell of blood, if I cut my finger he's away!! Kids grow so fast now don't they, mine seemed to be babies for ever!! I'll be glad when these fireworks are over, here in Brighton we seem to have them all year. The council let them off every saturday night on the beach, paid for out of our council tax. I'd ban them completely!! Jeannette. http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels
Poor old Jake. I know how he was because our two were frantic, particularly Jesse, he did everything he could to get away. I do wish they would stop these damned fireworks from being sold to the public. Sorry to hear about Roman's skin problem, I am sure it will clear up quickly. Becky had it when she was little but it did not last for long.
I never noticed that about butcher's shops, I do not think ours have ever walked by one.
Sorry you did not get a Viva and sorry for Sara and Sylvia as well. Still as I once said, to me you are all winners.
