THE BONE DID THE TRICK! (so far!)

Hello everyone,

Firstly, may I thank everyone who has given me advice to help with Jake`s chewing problem.  It has all been very helpful and yes, the rawhide chew bone really does tire his jaws out, though he is getting through it quite quickly.  He is happy to let me take it away from him as he is not obsessive about it food or bones, so I remove it after about an hour and give it back to him later on.  The only thing is it is making him quite thirsty and there are puddles of water all over the kitchen floor from his slurping!  Never mind, it is a very small price to pay to live in an un-chewed house.  I think the main thing is that he now has something, apart from his Kong, that he can call his own, he used to have so many toys but he destroyed them all one by one and we were worried that he was swallowing bits of plastic and goodness knows what.  So much for `indestructable` dog toys!

This morning was really bright and sunny and definitely not as cold as of late.  In fact, in was nice and warm in the sun and I thoroughly enjoyed the long walk through the lanes and around the back field, where Jake found some rabbits to chase.  It could almost have been Spring, temperature wise, how long will it last though?  We still have lots of leaves on the trees and shrubs in the garden, something really isn`t the norm for late November.  Our magnolia tree looks rather strange with it`s brown drooping leaves.  I actually shook a branch and not one leaf fell to the ground.  I wouldn`t be suprised if they stayed there awhile longer.

Kerry is downstairs at the moment.  Roman is sleeping on Jim`s lap,  his favourite place for a nap in the afternoon!  I`m going downstairs now to have a natter with my daughter, so have a lovely day all of you and do take care.

Pretty graphics today. Wonder if those chewys have salt in then to make Jake so thirsty. It's strange about your magnolia tree leaves being brown. The leaves on the ones over here stay green the year round. We get some pretty cold nights here. It has been in in the high teens already. Sometimes it gets really cold. The coldest I can remember it getting is 8º below zero. Have a good evening. Helen

I'm glad Jake has got something to chew on other than your bookcase!! I was looking at all the leaves on the trees around here, they've normally gone by now. Jeannette.

Sandra so glad the Bone did the trick (So far) !!!  There is no such thing as an indestructable DOG toy....even my two small boys can tear one apart in less than a day..Hope you had a nice day with Roman and Kerry......Ally

Sandra,  I must say that the siggie tag is one of the best I have seen, beautiful.  Wonder where you got that lol
So glad that the bone is working for Jake.  He obviously wanted something of his own.  He would probably like Pig's ears as well, our two love them.  You are right about the trees, the amount of leaves is suprising considering how cold it has been.  Seems like they are on with super glue!
You have reminded me, I have not got the dogs their Christmas presents yet, yes we do give them presents.  Enjoy your time with Kerry and Roman.  I bet Jim loves being the doting Grand-dad.

What is a natter?   LOL         I love the way you write but dont understand all the time! I bet Jim is in heaven with adorable Roman on his lap. Have you taken a pic yet with a Santa's hat on Roman? Those are always so cute. Glad to know he loves his bone. Buddy will get a bone and sleep with it and growl IN HIS SLEEP if you walk near that bone. LOL               He thinks he is King.
Love, lisa jo

Hi!
Are you sure Jake is not psychologically distressed?  That is often a reason for sudden chewing. Also have you considered the state of his teeth- They mightg be hurting him!!
Poor Jake.  Hope he gets better soon!!

Jake is something!  So happy that big bone worked out (so far) as you said...best keep plenty in stock.  I have seen them disappear in this house...our 4 chew them like biscuits...LOL.  So nice that Roman loves his granddad so much...to sleep in his lap so soundly.  Enjoy your visit with Kerry!  Hugs,
Joyce

My dog is the opposite of Jake.  His balls are his and his bones are his.  He does not share, and the only one that is allowed to take either one away from him is me.  And then he is not totally sweet about the loss.  Guess he knows that I am a sucker for his big brown eyes and will give him anything he really wants.  LOL  Pennie

You have the best graphics!  Kong is KING!  Kong was the life saver here.  Do you ever freeze one for Jake?  Speaking of freezing, did I mention ice?  Or popsicles?  Or apples and carrots?  All vet approved.  I freeze little Tupperware containers full of water and tip them out for Buster for a good chase around the kitchen/backyard.  He LOVES apples...you should try it. ;)  C.  http://journals.aol.com/gdireneoe/thedailies

I buy Salty cow bones that have been boiled in a brown type covering.  Anytime I let him run he is unable to catch until he is ready, which can be hours.  I tempt him with chipped beef sometimes to come up to me.   mark

I used to buy my dog a bone  and pigs ears all the time Sandra. . .when he got ill and I took him to the vet and they discovered the his bowels were full of small bits of bones that had lacerated his bowel . . .they vet went potty with me for giving him bones.I had no idea the damage I was doing by giving him these things. The laceration caused a hernia and he couldnt do a poo anymore as their was no muscle left for him to push ,this caused all sorts of probs and he had to be put down.It was awful.
