UNDER SEIGE

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the first day of Winter, according to Greenwich Mean Time.  With the light mornings, shorter days and dark evenings right through until Spring. What a depressing thought!

At the moment there are fireworks exploding all around us, Jake refuses to leave the safety of our living room, prefering instead to bury his head under the coffee table.  Apparently on Tuesday it is the Hindu festival of Diwali, and then the fireworks will be much worse.  Our immediate next door neighbours will have a big party and the fireworks will go on into the night, I`m dreading it.

The photo above was taken by Jim while out with Jake this morning.  He also took some more photos of funghi that had sprung up since yesterday.  They look like little villages with their toadstool roofs.

It was nice to get an extra hour in bed last night though I still woke up at the usual time and got up because I just wasn`t tired anymore, so I managed to get my Sunday chore of ironing done early this morning.  To me it`s the worst job of all housework - wise, and to get it all finished for another week is very satisfying indeed.

These toadstools are rather odd-looking don`t you think.  I was just wondering how Jim got this shot, maybe he was lying down on the grass!

This photo happened by accident, just as Jim pressed the shutter button Jake decided to investigate the toadstools.  Jim thought I`d like the result and he was right.  Sometimes impromptu photos are the best.

Kerry and Slava paid us a visit this afternoon.  They stopped for a cuppa and Jim and I played with a very smiley Roman.  Of course Little Man dozed off on his Grandad`s lap, he seems to be making a habit of it.

I`m using my new keyboard and it`s brilliant. I`m not making any silly mistakes with typing, and that saves me so much time as I don`t have to make nearly as many corrections as before.  The keys are much quieter too, a bonus for Jim who is always saying he can hear my `tap tap` from downstairs with the TV on!  We didn`t have to install any software either as it`s the same make as the old one. The only difference is the new mouse is very sensitive, I`m chasing it all over the place.  Again, it`s the same type and make as the old one but it`s just going to take a bit of getting used to.

Well I hope you`ve all had a nice weekend. I`m going to get this finished up before I go downstairs to watch a TV prog for an hour.  Bye for now and please take care.

You're right, the toadstools do look like little villages, I was expecting Big Ears to pop out of one and wave to Jim!! Poor old Jake, hope the fireworks don't go on too long. My dogs used to be petrified of them. Love Jeannettexxxx.http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels

Hi Sandra - loved this entry, and I just love the one of Jake sniffing the toadstools - if Barney had been there he probably would have eaten them, as he eats anything going..lol..New keyboard sounds great....must get one of those for I am forever going back to correct spelling mistakes...I hope your weekend was a good one - Happy Halloween.....Ally

Brilliant photo of Jake. Saw someone walking past here yesterday with the biggest horse mushroom I've ever come across. The mushrooms seem to be very late this year, must have been the dry summer.

I LOVE to iron!  It seems such a serene task to me.  Anyway, I really enjoyed the picture of Jakes nose in the toadstool.  Happy Sunday!  Pennie

Rick would take those mushrooms, if not poisonous, and fry them in oil and butter and feast on them and make my house smell like dirty socks for one day if he could. LOL  He works in a cemetary and a few times during the year they come up and he is delighted. Congrats on the new keyboard. Love, lisa

What is it with these men that they all complain about the tapping of the keyboard, do we complain about the noise from there work they are doing when we are trying to listen or watch something, LOL?

It has been like that around here this evening, like being in the war and of course, next Saturday will be worse but thankfully nobody around here celebrates Diwali.  I love all the pictures.  Glad that you got your new keyboard and are liking it.  I sent my new mouse back as well.  I simply could not get any control over it and I hated the blue flashing light all the time it was in use.

Gosh those are such brilliant photos - I love the first one, full of wonderful atmosphere! Funnily enough, there are fireworks exploding all around the place outside as I write this - ruddy things! It really is time they were banned for good.

Great pictures. I would bet Jim did get down to do that one and the one of Jake is precious. I know all of you will be glad when the fireworks are over. Helen

Glad you got the new equipment.  I can't imagine using the old keyboard without visible letters.  I never was a very good touch typist.  Did you know you can control your runaway mouse?  At least if you're running under Windows.  If you don't know how to access the control, drop me an email and I give you the steps.

Hi Sandra, well take comfort...I'm spending my Sunday afternoon ironing.  I'm going to put a movie on the TV and iron away. I really don't mind it except when it's hot in the summer. Hope you had a great Sunday.  That cousin of mine that lives in Maidenhead...today (10-30-05) is his 64th birthday.  I should have asked you to go knock on his door and tell him Happy Birthday from his cousin Linda.

Hello Sandra.........I had a wonderful weekend. I am not a huge fan of mushrooms or toadstools I don't think I would be able to capture them in a photo. These toadstools look rather strange maybe because I am not a fan of them perhaps.  I continue to love your writing and your photos I appreciate your sharing it all with those of us who come and read your journal. Thanks very much........
