BACK ON DRY LAND

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to a bright and sunny Saturday.  I can`t quite believe how nice it is today after the grey days of this last week.  Anyway the fisherman has returned, so on with his story.

Steve, Ted, Jim and Mark.

When Jim got home last night he didn`t look very well at all.  He told me that he had been quite seasick.  He was feeling a bit off colour when he got up and is still feeling a little unwell and I think it may be a virus.

Regardless of that he said he was there to fish and fish he did.  He caught several dogfish/huss or rock salmon depending on what you call it.  His mate Mark couldn`t put a foot wrong and was catching constantly all day long, much to the dismay of John, though standing next to him on the boat, didn`t even have a catch!  Mark`s moment of triumph came when he caught an 18 and a half pound rayfish.  Jim said he was delighted to have caught it as you can see by the look on his face.  Of course the rayfish was going home to be eaten and along the rest of the day`s haul.  None of us know what rays taste like so will we await Mark`s verdict.

Unfortunately one of the party Glynn couldn`t make it yesterday,  but the remaining five have already started to think ahead to their next trip, though I must admit to having doubts about Jim going sea-fishing in the winter when the weather is bad.  I think he`ll most likely not go again until the spring, by that time he will be raring to go again.

Heading out to sea.

Yesterday Kerry and I had a really long, but enjoyable day shopping.  I got up at 6.45am, breakfasted and showered, did some housework, walked Jake and checked my email before Kerry picked me up at 10.30.  We had fun Christmas shopping and Roman slept most of the time in his pram, only waking to be fed and changed, while we tramped around the shops.  We stopped for a coffee in a place called BB`s, while we were sitting there we heard a scream behind us, it turned out that a pigeon had walked into the shop and under a table where a couple of women were sitting.  It carried on unnoticed for a while until it tried to fly away straight at one of the women who were sitting at there.  The shop owner came over waving a tray around trying to scare the bird away, which he eventually did.  It was so funny to watch!

When we got home it was 5.30 and I had to walk Jake again, I really didn`t feel like it so I just left my shopping on the dining room table and went straight back out with him before I got too comfortable.  By the time I sat down at the computer I was too tired to post an entry and read journals instead.  Jim and I sat and watched the the West Wing on TV and then retired for the night completely shattered.

This morning we had lunch at the garden centre cafe, afterwards I suggested going for a drive in the country to see the autumn leaves but despite driving a fair distance we didn`t see very much at all.  I`ll just have to wait longer for more colour, though I have seen a couple of maple trees that are a fiery red.  They were none in Burnham Beeches or Egypt and I didn`t want to drive further afield as Jim wanted to get home to prepare the fish for cooking tonight.  Oh yes, I`ll be cooking a fish supper tonight and I`m so looking forward to it.

That`s it from me today.  I hope you have a lovely, restful weekend and take care of yourselves.

I hope you enjoy your fish supper, have you got a pan big enough for the ray?!! Even in New England the Fall colours are late so maybe next weekend will be better for you to find them. Have a lovely weekend, Jeannette.

Men and their fishing....it's the same all over the world.  I loved your trivia but there's one point that's incorrect. (Iceland consumes more Coca-Cola per capita than any other nation.)  NOPE !  Julie consumes more coke (Vanilla) than Iceland, I'm sure.

Glad that they had a good trip. That is some fish! Glad you enjoyed the shopping and the pigeon.  Did you notice how like Becky Daniel is on the posting I did yesterday?  Alerts were down and lots did not know I had even posted anything. Isn't it always the way, when you post something that really means something to you, alerts go down!xxxxxxxx

Looks like it was a fabulous days's fishing - but sorry to hear Jim's a bit under the weather at the moment. He certainly looks as though he's enjoying the fishing in those photos. Hope he's back to normal soon. The fish supper sounds wonderful!

Enjoyed your entry and photos.  I wonder what ray must taste like?  I will walk Salty my dog today as I was too tired yesterday after working with the carpenter on my addition.  I will have a friend check on him tomorrow when I go to St. Louis for my Doctor's appointment.  Am trying to spend some time reading journals and will make an entry when I am not working on the building.    mark

Nice fishy entry Sandra, Glad Jim enjoyed it but not the sea sickness. You are doing well with your Christmas shopping.....

He he, look at all those grins on the fisher folk's faces ;o)
They certainly look like they're enjoying themselves.  And what a catch, with that huge ray.  Did you find out what it tasted like?  Hope Jim feels better soon.
Glad you and Kerry had a good shopping day, though I'm sure you were thankful that the pigeon didn't choose your table to hide under!!

Loved your pics of Jim fishing.  I am so sorry that he didn't feel well.  A guy should be able to enjoy something like this w/o feeling ill.  He sure did hide it well by his smile in the pics.  LOL.  I have been seasick before and it was NOT pleasant and it did take a really good day and a half to get better.
Jealous of your Christmas shopping.  I have made list upon list of to do's and also deadlines that I'm giving myself.  That way, I won't have so much to do at once.
This job and commute is killing me though.
