Dinner and The Queen

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to a nice sunny Saturday.  Well it is sunny at the moment but I`m keeping an eye on the dark clouds that are scudding across the sky.  It had better not rain on my washing that is drying on the line!  Oh oh....here it comes.......................... I should have kept my mouth shut as it started to rain right after I`d typed the words.  I brought it all in only for it to stop as soon as I went indoors...grrrr!  It`s almost dry so it can stay put, I`m not hanging it out again.

Yesterday I bought a couple of t-shirts from Marks & Spencer.  They will have to do until I get my work shirts and trousers.  I didn`t see the point in spending a lot of money on something that I won`t wear again.  I always wear t-shirts so this way it`s good value.  I hope the deputy manager sees it that way but as long as I`m clean and presentable I can`t see a problem. I did splash out a bit buying some new clothes for Roman now I know I`ll have some pocket money coming in AND I can start planning ahead for Christmas which was a bit of a worry as I like to spend a bit on the family out of my own pocket.  So I`m nervous about starting and I`m relieved that I have a job to go to, talk about mixed emotions.  It`s been 20 years since I last started a job so it`s a very new experience for me.  I always thought Royal Mail would be my employer up till retirement age but it was not to be, though I can`t say I`m sorry as I was so stressed in the last few years working there.  Of course, you are bound by the official secrets act and can`t talk about your time there, even though they don`t specify what you can or can`t say it`s easier to nothing than put your foot in it.   The things I could say.........!!!  I`ve just realised that in one paragraph I`ve jumped from Marks&Sparks to spilling the beans on Royal Mail.....what am I talking about...lol!

This evening Jim and I are going to the cinema to see The Queen starring Helen Mirren.  It`s had really good reviews and they say she could win an oscar for role role as Elizabeth II.  I`ll let you know what I think of it in another entry.  Tomorrow Jim is taking me out for Sunday lunch and I`m really looking forward to it.  My stomach is doing somersaults at the moment because of my job-induced nerves so it will be nice not to have to prepare a dinner, besides, it`s always nice to eat out even if there is no special occasion.

I will take my leave of you now and go and read some journals as I won`t have the time later.  Have a nice relaxing Saturday, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

You will be fine Sandra, I promise and you know we will all be thinking about you.  Think of all the things you will be able to write about on your journal concerning your job, without naming names etc.  I have heard that film is very good, seen clips of it as well. Helen Mirren is a very good actress. Let us have your review please. Enjoy your lunch tomorrow with Jim and remember having a job is far more exciting than medical appointments lol

Hi Sandra.  Take it from me....I've started a LOT of new jobs.  I know that's nothing to brag about....but sadly it's true.   I've ALWAYS been nervous before the first day. SO much that I couldn't sleep the night before.  And, I gotta tell ya...the first day is ALWAYS, ALWAYS OK!!  It's a lot of introducing around....shaking hands with people and customers....meeting the employees (don't expect to recall their names, either), learning where to put your purse, where the restroom is.  They never expect anything out of ya the first day...let me tell ya!

You'll be fine.  Enjoy your weekend, relax a bit,  and just remember that nothing is EVER as bad as we think it's going to be.

I love the shower gel from Marks & Spencer that I used to be able to buy up in Victoria, BC  But in August when the cruise ship landed there, I went to where the little store used to be and it was gone.  I have to do see some research and see if there's another place in B.C. that sells it.  I'm sure there is. Your last couple days before you start your new job...enjoy.   Linda in WA
