Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my scribbles on a warm, pleasant August afternoon. I just hope it stays that way and I don`t mean the weather. Last night my sweet, loveable grandson Roman decided to reveal another side to his character, something he`s not done before...at least in front of me. When it came to bed-time, the little `angel` decided to have a temper tantrum, a hissy fit, call it what you will but this was a seriously cross little boy who didn`t want to go to bed. I gave him 20 mins to fall asleep, which he does usually but this time his whinging turned into yells, and they in turn became screams of anger. I decided he wasn`t going to settle and went up to see him and I couldn`t believe what he`d done. He`d thrown not only his dummy, but his quilt out of the cot and onto the floor, and he`d pulled IN his money box and a picture frame. Was this screaming squalling bundle my sunny natured little grandson? When we got downstairs even Jake thought better of staying in the living room and headed for his bed out of the way of this noisy creature! After a drink Roman decided that he wanted to play so I got out his toys again, 10 minutes later he bumped his head slightly on one of them and the tears started all over again (he wasn`t hurt, I checked). Eventually he was so exhausted he fell asleep on the floor and I put him on my lap with the intention of taking him back to bed. When I did however, he decided that he was going to start all over again but as soon as I had got to the bottom of the stairs he fell silent. Peace reigned at last...sigh. Kerry rang this morning to say that he`d slept through the night without waking once, despite my warning last night to Slava that they may have a bad night with him. I wouldn`t mind if he was teething but he`s absolutely fine. Let`s see what this evening brings. Little Lord Torn Socks, as Jan calls him, is showing himself to be a bit of a devil...lol!
I thought I`d share this photo of Kerry when she was 18 mths old. I`d forgotten just how pretty she was with her lovely blonde hair. I do remember that she never had a bad temper as a baby, Roman must take after Slava`s family...lol! When I think of it neither of my children had tempers, Daniel especially was extremely placid and rarely cried, let alone screamed. Never mind, I`m sure it`s just a phase he`s going through.
Changing the subject completely, I did my usual garden check this morning and they is definitely an Autumnal feel to it. Leaves are starting to turn brown. The ones that don`t shed their leaves are changing red or bronze and the morning dew is getting heavier. The flowers in the pots and baskets will have to be thrown away so I can prepare them for the winter flowering plants. By rights, it`s still Summer but with the cooler temperatures I wonder if it`s gone for this year. I couldn`t believe that my other Magnolia has a flower on it (see above), highly unusual for the time of year so I decided to take a photo or two to show you. I think it`s a bit sad when Summer comes to an end, I`m not sure exactly why but it`s a feeling I`ve always had. Maybe that`s why I feel so happy when Spring comes around again.
One more week to go and Dorset here we come! Jim and I can`t wait for the break in `our` seaside cottage once again. I hope the weather will be nice but that`s something we don`t have control over. No matter, we`ll have a great time regardless with Kerry and Roman there as well. Poor Slava couldn`t have the time off work and will have to make do with staying for the weekend only. :o( Also, Jim and I are going to Amsterdam for a long weekend at the end of October. It was only decided last week and I`m really looking forward to it. I`ve not been to Holland before despite it being only a short hop over the channel. Jim`s also mentioned that we can go to Prague one weekend too, I`ve always wanted to go there too. He can be a real sweetie sometimes. :o)
I must dash now, I have journals to read before Roman arrives later. I also have lots more washing to do too while the weather holds. I hope you all have a lovely day, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Yes, there is an autumnal feel to the air. I read in the paper this morning that our summer is over and we are in for some heavy rain, not to say warnings of floods in some parts. Such a shame, we get a terrible long hot burst that no-one could stand and now we are into Autumn in August. Looks like it might be a long winter.
Oh, those temper tantrums, I know them well from Nathan. Believe me that boy can scream and yell. We are hoping he grows out of it as well.
Your holiday and breaks sound lovely and will give you lots to write about. Beautiful picture of Kerry, but then she is still lovely.

I wonder if Kerry has seen Roman do that. Bet that did shock you as you are used to such a sunny child. Your upcoming holidays sound great. Hope you all have a great time with good weather. Hugs, Helen
Loved the pics.
Have a great day dear.

Sorry about Roman's "other side." Sometimes this happens with children, yet they later turn out to be sweet, even tempered companions. I hope it's a very short lived phase for you all.
The Holiday at the seaside cottage sounds great! Don't forget to take your camera! Can't wait to see some pics!
I visited Holland at the age of ten and just loved Amsterdam. I'm sure it's changed since then, but I hear it's still lovely. A trip to Prague sounds like a great adventure.
Enjoy that Autumn weather, it's still in the nineties here with high humidity. Our Autumns come a little later this far south.
Take Care,
Sam
hi Sandra...
love the choc...Mmmm! Great pic of Kerry, she is beautiful.
Astra!
Hi Sandra, Thank you for your lovely Journal. I only found it by accident (via another's journal) hope you don't mind. I don't do a journal...yet...one can never tell. But do enjoy Looking on on others. Thank you
Sybil
Little man was exercising his lungs Sandra lol ~ he is asserting himself ~ or seeing how far he can get with you ~ Jake had the right idea heading for his bed ~ your holiday seems to have come round quickly ~ sounds like a lovely little cottage hope the weather stays warm and dry for you all ~ Lucky you off to Amsterdam for a long weekend at the end of October that will be something to look forward to. Ally
LOL Roman was testing the waters! Sorry he had rough night.
I was outside the other night and I could also feel that change of seasons in the air. Out neighbor has a maple tree that loses it's leaves at the end of summer. Her tree has already started to shed those leaves.
Hope you have a grend time on your trips.

Hope you have a better evening with Roman today. Ellen has just gone I still get tired after a day with her. One more day next week then she starts school. Love Joan.
Oh, they do develop their tempers as they get older. I didn't have trouble with Julie, but with Jimmy I had to make a game of going to bed. We had fun picking up toys, etc all the while talking about sweet dreams, etc. Linda in WA
P.S. Beautiful picture of Kerry!! She's a dolly!

When my son Stephen was 3 he decided to test us. He never won the battles, though. It took him about a week or two to figure out that he'll never win. Then, peace reigned again. LOL!

Oh my goodness what has happened to Roman?? He's definitely growing up fast isn't he LOL.......bless him - love the name Little Lord Torn Socks lol......Wondered when you guys would be off to Dorset again.........sounds like your going to become right jet setters though ;-)
When my youngest was ten months he turned from a sweet placid baby into a screaming demon at bedtime. Maybe Roman had a nightmare the day before and was frightened at bedtime, you never know till they can talk to you! Sounds like something upset him! You'd love Prague, it's so beautiful! Get Jim to take you to Budapest, that's a fantastic city too! I've never liked the end of summer either! Jeannette xx http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels
Are you sure it was Roman who spent the night and not my grandson, Andrew? LOL that sounds like him! I think they all get a little testie at times to see how far they can push the rules and boundaries. It's their overall disposition that is the most telling about them. Your trip to Holland sounds great! Can't wait to see pictures of that. Also looking forward to hearing about and seeing pictures from your trip to the sea shore.

Poor Roman....but we are all allowed a fussy day now and then!! I hope you enjoy your vacation! Take lots of pics.

Hi Sandra :-) Kerry sure was a beautiful baby, and I had to laugh at Roman's antics ~ I will never forget the temper tantrums mine had ~ scarred me for life they did lol !! My garden sounds the same as yours ~ it's all turning already! We've had a very short summer and I feel sad as you do ~ I am not a winter person at all ~ roll on Spring I say! I do hope you get good weather in Dorset, even if it stays dry that will be something :-) Have a lovely day with Roman, take care.
love n hugs Debbie ~xxxxxx~

I know what you mean about feeling sad when summer ends. I've always been like that and I don't really know why...must be something to do with the chemicals the sun produces or something like that!!
Hope the weather stays nice for your trip to Dorset!

Hi there,
Forgive me but I have not been reading your journals for a few weeks, but you have reminded me how children are sometimes and I had forgotten.
I hope all is well now.
By for now,
John.
