Hello Everyone,I hope you`ve all been having a nice weekend, and to all you here in Britain, I hope you`re having a great Bank Holiday Monday. It was pouring with rain all night and I thought it was going to carry on into today. We`ve had some heavy showers, make no mistake, but in between it`s been really warm and sunny, let`s hope the sunny spells last longer than the showers!
Yesterday afternoon, Jim and I went out for a drive, we didn`t have any particular destination in mind so had no idea where we`d end up. We drive up through Berkshire into Oxfordshire and back again into Berkshire, taking in the pretty countryside on the way. We also tried to find my friend B`s house but to no avail, I`m going to have to get a map or I`ll get lost if I go there on my own, my sense of direction has always been terrible and isn`t getting any better with age...lol!
We ended up in Cookham Dean, an affluent, but very popular area by the River Thames. We had a coffee in a nice little cafe and sat outside and chatted for some time, it was lovely to have some quality time together instead of having to rush off somewhere. The only problem was keeping the wasps away, there were loads of them and most of them seemed to make a beeline for me. It must have been quite amusing for passers-by to see me dancing around waving my arms in the air, I don`t mind someone having a laugh at my expense...lol! It was a really hot Summers day, just as it should be in August and I even got a bit sunburnt. We walked along to Boulters Lock whwere the boats were queueing either end. The lock is a good size and can fit several boats in at a time, which is good news for the boats owners as I`m sure they don`t want to be waiting around on such a lovely day. I took loads of photos but ended up with just the fourteen, I took what should have been a lovely one of a family of ducks but for some reason it came out really dark. Jim ordered two icecreams but was given three so instead of giving it back to the seller he gave it to Jake instead who polished it off in no time at all. All in all we had a really nice day out and I hope the weather stays fine so it won`t be our last this Summer.
When you read this entry it will most probably be because you` received an email that I sent you. That`s because I went dog walking with Jim and had to turn the computer off. What was I to do? I had already added and captioned the photos that I wanted to share. Then I had a cunning plan, I saved the photos but put TEST ENTRY ~~~ PLEASE DELETE in the subject line so nobody would read it, thereby saving the photos. Then I copied and pasted my entry from notepad to email which I sent to myself. When I got home again I opened the email and copied it back to notepad where I continued my scribbles. Of course, because the saved photo entry had to be edited in order to add my text it wasn`t going to send out an alert, hence my email to you.
Today Kerry and Slava are supposed to be going to a theme park in Milton Keynes called Gulliver`s Land. I just hope it stayed nice for them as they were really looking forward to it...I`m sure Roman will have enjoyed it too...lol! Oh dear, it`s just started to rain again...I must go now, not because of the rain !!! but I have journals to read and dinner to prepare. Again I hope you all had a lovely day, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Lovely photos, Sandra. Our Sally hates having a camera pointed at her but she will put up with a lot for an ice cream - must try that! - Angie, x
We have only had a few spits of rain otherwise bright sunshine but oh so very windy. What memories you brought back. One of our holidays was a cruise on the Thames for a week. We went through Boulters lock going and coming back. The houses along the river are out of this world and so are the cabin cruisers moored outside them. The Thames is so beautiful as you go along it, you could be anywhere in the world. Might write about it sometime but alas we have no photos. We had an early polaroid camera in those days and the prints have not lasted the distance.
Lovely photos of Boulters Lock. . .oh yes. .I could easily live quite happily in that house Sandra.LOL.Nice photo of Jake having an ice cream . .lol
Love the photos. How lucky you are to be able to take off and drive and see such beautiful scenery. We pretty much lack a vew of much of anything where we are situated. It's pretty flat and lifeless. LOL Love the photo of Jake having a treat. He's such a beautiful creature. Have a great week.
Hugs, Barb
Ah your cunning plan worked ,very clever ! complicated ?but clever !Your pictures are lovely ,super day out ,yes the houses are lovely and yes I'd like to live there ,I'd like a boat too ,have discovered an old friend who I knew lived on a long boat ,is actually moored near here ,.,watch this space !! she will be getting a visit from me soon ,.,.,.,Jan xx
Rain, what's rain ? I wish we'd get some. It's been 73 days now since we've had any here. I love your pictures...There's a lock in Seattle that I've always wanted to go to. I did see one down on the Columbia River at The Dalles Dam. However since 9-11-01...they don't let the public go out there anymore. You're given a brief tour of the outskirts of the dam and that's it. And any boats going thru the locks are thoroughly checked out. That ice cream eater...Jake ! What a guy !!! Linda in Washington
As Jan said....complicated, but I think I 'get the drift'
Looks like you had a great day out,and lucky with the weather.
That area looks lovely...
Aileen....X

That was some lovely scenery along with Jake eating ice cream and Jim saying to not take his picture LOL. Thanks for sharing. Helen

The photos are wonderful Sandra. I always loved the scenery around the Thames. I remember going there with my parents when I was young and going through those lock gates. Shouldn't that be ...... the wasps made a wasp line for you, not a beeline?! Lol! Jeannette xx
The pics are great! TY for sharing.
Sounds like you had a nice weekend. :)
Hugs, Sugar
It looks like you had a wonderful time... the pictures are so Beautiful. Sandra
love the pics Sandra...looks like you had a good day out...we had a big down pour here today too! have a great week...
Astra!
I love the Thames, feel quite envious, especially the strawberry ice cream bit lol. My favourite lock on the Thames is Goring. Can remember a Sunday afternoon, in the early autumn of 1968, spent in a little rowing boat, with hubby, my brother and a few friends, at Henley. Nobody had a life belt, but was told by my brother that if we capsized I'd be okay, as I had my own bouyancy aid - I was 7 months pregnant! Take care. Keep laughing.

Hi Sandra !!!!!!!
Thanks for the e-mail about your entry. I have been sick these last couple of days with a cold. I am getting better though. Its been rather warm here during the day. It rains a little bit in the evening and the next day its warm again. Your neighborhood sounds lovely. I wish I could have been there to see it all. I hope the icecream was good. It sounds like Gulliver's Land is simply FUN. I wish I could go there but work and things keep me here in Georgia. I'll be back for another visit again soon. Tell the family hello for me. Take care.
Hi Sandra :-) Love the photo's and they're even better with the sun shining aren't they?!! Looked like Jake enjoyed his ice cream too!! Hope the weather stayed good for Kerry, Slava and Roman ~ theme parks are not quite the same in the rain! Take care :-)
love n hugs Debbie ~xxxxx~
