Hello everyone, I hope you`re all having a nice weekend. My goodness it has been boring today, apart from getting up and doing a fair amount of housework nothing has really happened all day. Well it has, but nothing of any real interest to anyone. I read the two local papers, scanned the job pages and each individual ad for the elusive job but there was nothing...not even a sniff of anything suitable.....sigh.
We did get a pleasant surprise this afternoon though, there was a knock at the door and there stood Danny. We had no idea he was coming but it was great to see him, he has been flat hunting all morning and into the early afternoon and has found a place he really likes, hopefully the estate agent will be able to secure it for him. Even if it does fall through the agency he is using are being very helpful so he isn`t too worried about finding a place. As we have a `visitor` I am cooking a roast dinner with all the trimmings tonight, I have to spoil my son...not that Jim is complaining as a roast is one of his favourites too.
One of the other things I saw in the paper was an article about an old local hospital. They are down-sizing the existing building with a view I think, to eventual closure. I was born there and had my tonsils and andenoids removed there also. Despite being only five at the time I still remember that place very well, my memories are NOT favourable to say the least. In the article was an old photo of the original building, a very grim looking building, and when I read on it said it was originally a workhouse. I was quite surprised that having lived here all my life I`d not heard that before. I`m going to look into it and if I can find interesting on the subject I`ll post an entry about it. There has to be some information somewhere.
I`ve mentioned this more than once before about Jakes nervousness around large objects but today he was even more nervous than usual. I let him out first thing as usual but when I called him back in he stubbornly refused to set foot back in the house. He looked absolutely terrified and cowered down on the back lawn. I eventually was able to coax him in by leaning against the back door so he couldn`t see it! He hasn`t done this for a long time now and I thought his fear of doors was in the past. If only I could look back into his past life with his first owner to see how he was treated. Something has definitely happened to him to make him act this way, what, I dread to think. Most noises make him jump, they don`t even have to be loud ones, just noises. I just hate to see him so scared all the time. I can only hope that in time he will forget his past, though I don`t hold out much hope. At least I know that he is safe with us and will always be treated well and is loved to bits by everyone who knows him.
I must go and attend to the turkey joint roasting away in the oven, it smells delicious and will be done soon. Have a nice evening all of you and take care. Bye Bye for now.

Sandra you are cruel........Lindt chocolate and me on a diet, LOL!!! Mind you I did try their new Lemon Meringue one the other day....yum, but did not buy a bar (it was a free tasting in Asda!!!), they also do a creme brulee but not tried that. A lot of the old hospitals are former workhouses, you just have to look at the buildings to see that, then of course you have the former lunatic assylums.....St. Crispins in Northampton (now the Princess Marina) was a mental institution and prior to that it was the Berrywood Asylum......all that site is due to be flattened next year and they are moving to a new build which is currently under construction.
An unexpected visit from Danny and a delicious dinner to follow sounds very nice indeed. I love bits and pieces you add to the end of your posts. This one makes me really curious about the underwater hotel. How in the world do they get in and out without flooding the place? Your AOL logo, by the way, is terrific!
Great Entry.I love the aol graphic at the top of this entry.
Love your graphics and now I desperately want some chocolate...after I have had some roast din ofcourse! I hope poor Jake does forget his past one day. Eve
What a lovely surprise Danny dropping by...Glad his flat hunting is going well....of course you have to spoil him - Dinner sounds delicious.
It's amazing how many buildings were Workhouses at one time...will be interesting to hear about it....and what went on in them....
Poor Jake he must have had something awful happen to him in his past, I do hope he grows out of it - with all the love you give him I am sure he will...Have a lovely evening....Ally
I almost wonder if it is a LAB thing. I have had Luke since he was a pup and have of course treated him like royalty. But Luke is also a very nervous dog. He freaks out over every little noise, is terrified of trucks and busses that drive by when we are on our walks, he is clostrphobic and gets really upset if I move anything in the house. If you go to Doctors Foster and Smith online you can buy him these all natural treats called "Ultra Calm" and they love them and I give thme to Luke when he is nervous and it works great!!
Kara :)
Humm, wonder if I could make it over to you place in time for dinner? That was nice of Danny to stop by to see you and Jim. Sounds as if someone before you used to coax Jake inside and then was mean to him, poor thing. There has to be some reason is is afraid to come inside. You don't have a ghost in there do you?? LOL. Hope you soon find a good job of some sort. Your weird facts were interesting. Loved the bug. I will have to send it to Ken since he is in pest control and see if he can stomp on it LOL. Have a good visit with Danny. Helen
Salty can not stand the sound of fireworks, even from a distance. Something caused him to become a stray and perhaps it was from some noise. mark
Your choccy looks delicious and your dinner sounds delicous ,of course you must spoil your son !the way to a mans heart and all that ....never fails does it ?...Jan xx
The hospital I used to work in was a workhouse, my grandmother was in there for a time as she came from a very poor family. Glad Danny's found a flat he likes. Poor Jake, must have been something that really scared him. My two Border Collies hated the shadows caused by candles, I could never use them when they were alive which was in the time of the coal miner's strike! They were also terrified by thunder and shotgun fire. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Jeannette xxxx
It is so sad to see a dog cowering down like that I wonder what happened to him. Never mind you know that he has a great home now and now harm will come to him. Lov Joan.
Sandra
What a nice surprise to find Danny at yor door step. The roast sounds yummy! Don't give up hope, that perfect job will find it's way to you eventually. I hope Jake will eventually get over his fears, it is obvious he is in a very loving home now.

So nice to have a visit from Danny...I hope the flat he finds will his dream home. It was very nice that you cooked a simply yummy sounding meal...one of my favoites too. Poor Jake...I hope he gets past that fear...he is so strong looking but has a gentle and breakable heart. I am sure, in time, he will get past this. You have a wonderful weekend.
Many hugs and love,
joyce
I wish I could've come to tea :-) Poor ol' Jake at least like you say he is in a loving home now. Love the AOL graphic LOL ;-)
