Jim preparing the wall for plastering.
Hello everyone,
How are you all today on this very blustery Wednesday? It`s all go here especially for my `better` half who is getting stuck in to the repair of the knocked down wall. I`m perfectly happy to let him carry on with with it too, it keeps him out of trouble...lol! At the moment he`s in the middle of 12 days leave from work and he likes to be busy, bless him, so who am I to stand in his way...lol! I took some `before` photos that I`ll use once the decorating is complete. Jim quipped that if it doesn`t turn out as expected I can use them as the `after` pics!
Jim`s fishing went really well, thanks to Jan who told me to tell Jim, `Tight Lines!`. I had no idea what that meant but Jim said it means Good Luck to a fisherman. The line goes tight when they`ve hooked a fish, so now I`ve learned something new. He caught his first pike yesterday, only a little one, about six pounds but he was delighted with it.
Jim`s Pike
I don`t think it`s a particularly attractive fish, I much prefer the carp which is much prettier. I`m sure that looks don`t count for much with fisherman. Jim was hoping it had it`s mouth open so that we could see it`s teeth which are very pointed and sharp. I remember my Dad telling me a story of when he was a young lad and went fishing with his father. My Grandad had fished all his life and was trying, in vain as it turned out, to get my Dad interested in the pastime of angling. They went fishing one day at a local river and my Grandad hooked and landed a large pike. While showing my Dad the correct way to handle it without getting bitten, it clamped it`s jaws on my Grandad`s hand, cutting it quitebadly, leaving him with life long scars and a very healthy respect for the pike.
Roman was as good as gold for me last night despite his cold which does seem to be getting better. The same can`t be said for Kerry who felt dreadful last night but went into work regardless. She didn`t look well at all but said as she had only just strted back it wouldn`t look good if she took time off. Personally I think she should have gone home to bed but I see her point, a lot of companies these days think you should soldier on regardless of how ill you are. Silly when you think about it because it`s counter productive. You go to work with flu or a bad cold and you spread your germs around for everyone else to catch, consequently they have to go sick, or stay at work infecting everyone else......daft when you think about it.
Anyway, Kerry will be here in a moment so I`d better go. Take care all of you and Bye Bye for now.

This must be the time of year to get the inside of the house fixed up... We have been clearing things out of the bathroom and kitchen so we can get our new tile floor put in.... starting tomorrow if all goes well. I guess I should take some before and after pictures too. I can hardly wait to see your after pictures. Nice to see that your Jim isn't all work and no play, lol nice fish! Sandra
HEY, I think six pounds is a pretty good size fish. Those pike must really grow big. You can see by his big smile he is one happy man. We don't have any of that kind around here but some friends of ours from Ohio goes pike fishing in the Great Lakes. That is way up North from here.
Jim must be a good carpenter to tackle that kind of remodeling job. Good luck to him. Hope Roman and Kerry both soon get well. Helen
Hi! So glad to see you again! My alerts have returned! Evidently, there is a 200 alert cap...I have been deleting. We are all battling a really nasty bug here too. Tell Jim I said "chin up"...he could have ME to contend with!...the mother of all demolition! LOL ;) C. http://journals.aol.com/gdireneoe/thedailies

Great Photos of Jim doin the plastering and fishing.Man of many talents lol.Hope Kerry gets better real soon.
Pike are a vicious fish, but the Zander is worse (albeit a rare fish).....there is one in a pond down in Hampstead where I used to live but it is elusive!!! Angela has had to be given an apointment to be seen by HR cos she was off ill for 5 days....if you are ill, you are ill in my book and should not go to work, but as you say nowadays it does not work like that.......in November she was barred from having any sick days off for 3 months, won't tell you what I said about that!!!!
I can never understand why men fish . . lol. . I would hate it but Jim looks extremley happy holding that fish.Hes a handy man too.Looks like he is taking some of the staircase off?
First of all I LOVE the phrase "daft". We use it all the time in my family and I never hear it around my neck of the woods. Too funny! I would love to go fishing! I have never been.
Kara :)

Hope Kerry feels better soon and well done jim for catching the fish :-) Thanks for the comments on my journal. You do wonder about the alerts sometimes when you don't get one from someone. But I just assume that people are reading but not commenting LOL
I hope that doesn't end up as the 'after' pic!! Poor Kerry, it's horrible going to work when you feel bad, I hope Roman will get better soon. Nice fish Jim!! Jeannette xxxx
All workplaces seem to be getting weird about their employees being sick. A friend of mine went to a job interview a couple weeks ago, the employer told her she doesn't tolerate employees taking sick time. This woman said that the only reason people get sick is that they don't take care of themselves and if they can't take care of themselves she doesn't want them working for her. Can you believe that? And this employer is a health care provider to boot...has she never heard of germs ? I wonder if she or any members of her family ever get sick? Hope Kerry is feeling beter soon....Linda
Well, I see "the Man" is both busy working at home and fishing?
Hope Kerry feels better soon. Yes, companies don't like it when folks are sick. Truly, I think absenteeism is so bad here in the states that people just don't want ANYONE to be out. We have Family Medical Leave here that our federal govt. requires employers to let people off for up to 12 weeks per rolling 12 months, for any serious health condition. The government had to define serious health condition. And believe it or not, going to the doc at least twice or having treatment such as physical therapy, also counts. And being off 3 or more days under physician care counts. Adopting and birth of children - even for the father counts. I think that is wonderful. So we don't give any leaves unless its under the Family/Medical Leave or Workmans Comp, Funeral and such. I could talk about this all day with me being in HR and all. LOL.
Great photo of a man hard at work...Jim looks like he does enjoy being creative and I am sure all will look just fine ...can't wait to see the photos. I do hope Kerry feels better soon...it is so rough going to work when you are ill. Maybe she can catch up on rest this weekend....love how Roman is just right at home with you and Jim...that's wonderful...he truly has the best grandma and grandpa...many hugs from me to all,
Joyce
The pike pic never showed up for me. I am glad Jim was able to get out and go fishing. That wall looks like quite a big job. I dont like doing things like that. I cant wait to see the outcome. Where i work, you are to go to work DEAD if need be...any absences is BAD. Isnt that awful?
Love, lisa jo
Loved the Pike pic - they're real mean devils Pike. Noticed you've had the whip out - that wall is coming on at a rate of knots lol
Take care
Sylvia xx
A six pound pike to me is a large fish. Northern Pike are cold water fish found in northern states. I have heard that the are stocked in some of the state owned lakes here, but do not do well like they do in northern climates. When I fished I mostly caught blue gills also called sun fish and then bass. Croppy are my favorite eating fish but they are not easily caught except in certain lake areas that have shelter in the form of old Christmas trees which are used to create beds artificially when natural ones are fewer. Jim certainly has a tough job with chiseling out concrete in the photo. The photo of the pike would not download and was cut off so I could not view the fish. I have seen this in other journals and I believe it is because there are more photos in the entire journal space taking up alloted disk space. The solution would be to delete old entry's from the journal. mark
