A YEAR ALREADY

These are pics of my pansies, my winter cactus, the sunset and the magnolia tree with food for the birds hanging from it`s branches.  The pansies certainly brighten up a very dull January garden.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all having a good day.  It`s a bit on the chilly side here and getting even colder.  I wouldn`t be at all surprised if we were to have some snow this week.

Our Jake

Today we have had our Jake for a whole year.  I can`t believe it`s been that long already, the time has flown by and it seems as though he`s always been here.  Jake`s arrival filled the void left when our beloved Hannah died.  OIf course no dog can ever replace another but caring for Jake made us feel so much happier and I`m sure Hannah would have approved!  We`ve not heard from Labrador Lifeline Trust for months, they were supposed to send someone to see how he was settling at six months, then nine but we`ve heard nothing.  It`s a good job that we`ve been looking after him well because they wouldn`t know that would they?  In the first year of adoption, we have had to ask the Trust`s permission if Jake needed surgery or an anaesthetic, unless it was an emergency.  Now I don`t need to worry about that, though theoretically he still belongs to them for the rest of his life.  I are thinking of  cutting down Jake`s meals slightly, he isn`t overweight yet but he is a very big boy weighing 73lbs at the last count.  As he`s not quite 3 yrs old it`s not too important because he`s mainly solid muscle but he`s getting bigger and I don`t want him to get fat because of the problem he has with his hips.

Now I have a confession to make, I said I wasn`t going to carry on watching Celebrity Big Brother.  Well, that lasted all of twenty four hours before curiosity got the better of me and I found myself once more seduced by it`s dubious charms...lol!  I am to be found in front of the TV at 9pm, watching yesterday`s activities in the BB house.  Sometimes...in the morning I have also been found watching events as they happen.  When Jim finds me doing this he just shakes his head, walks away and sighs deeply.  What will I do when it finishes on Friday?  I will be lost ....lol! :o)

Jim`s back is much better, thanks so much for your concern, and he is getting on with the decorating, a bit at a time.  He has come to the conclusion that my plan for the wood surround to be stained and not varnished is a great idea....I told you it was only a matter of time until he saw the light!  I really didn`t want white paint again, not when he`s done all that work stripping the dark varnish off and seeing how light the hall is now.  I must start looking at wallpapers now, but before then Jim is taking a bit of the downstairs hallway wall down, it`ll look great when it`s finished.  I`ll take some before and after photos to post when it`s all done.

I`m off to read all your journals now.  Have a lovely evening and take care.  Bye Bye for now.

The winter pansies and the magnolia tree  are so pretty...and Jake, well, he stands out among the crowd as being the most handsome in the world of labs.  You are a great owner...and doing the diet thing with him is a great idea.  It is working here for sure with the rest of my little group.  I have changed everything they do here, eating and exercise.  We all know Jake gets his exercise and do you you and Jim walking him.  Very happy Jim's back is better too!  You have a wonderful Monday evening.  I wondered if you got to see the whale when it was in your river??  Hugs and love!

I think Jake is a very lucky dog to have found a home with you and Jim--but then, I'm sure he rewards you handsomely for his digs.  The flowers are lovely.  Take heart, Sandra, Spring is only about 56 days away!

I was amazed Sandra.  I remember you telling me about him and how you hoped you were getting him and then posting about him coming home.  It is incredible that it is a year!!  You are right to cut down on his food or give him a diet food because , as you know, Labs do tend to put on weight very easily.  Our neighbours would never cut down on their dog's food, were always giving him treats and they lost him, a beautiful golden Lab.  Lovely pictures.  My winter pansies did not do at all well, not much bloom and looking very sorry for themselves, first time ever.  Glad that Jim's back is feeling better.

Jake looks beautiful but it's wise to cut back as Labradors are prone to turn flabby in later life. Glad Jim has come round to your way of thinking, you knew he would!! Glad Jim's back is better. It's cold enough for snow here too. Brrrr!! Jeannette xxxx

Congratulations on your one year with Jake.    I got Salty a year ago in August and he is about 3 years old.   I haven't had him weighed lately but he is about 60 pounds now.   He slipped his collar last night and he came running at me on the lane in front of my home at a full gallop and of course ran right by me and then went off into the neighbors woods.   He was gone for about 2 hours before he decided to come back in the house.    I had him neutered when I got him so he would not be a problem getting into fights and being gone for days as my first dog did until him and his puppy were both neutered.   Enjoyed the photos and glad to read that Jim's back has gotten better.     mark

I'm a bit late but happy one year anniversary to Jake :-)  I must say that's bad of that trust not to get in contact, I know you haven't harmed jake and wouldn't but what if he'd gone to someone who would that's bad!!  Can't wait to see the pics of the decorating.  I shall be in the same boat as you when CBB finishes LOL ;-)
