WELCOME 2006

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all recovered after last nights celebrations.  Jim and I were home at 10 last night and far too tired to see in the New Year.  We heard the fireworks at midnight and then fell into a deep sleep, only to be woken at about 3am to a barrage of fireworks.  Jim was not at all happy being as he had to get up at 4.30 for work and if they woke us then they must have woken others too.  Huh...selfish people, a very Happy New Year to you too!!!

We did have a pleasant evening with Kerry and Slava.  He said that in Russia they celebrate in a different way to us.  They have a large table covered with food and drink, then people come round and help themselves and then move on elsewhere. This continues right through the night and I wouldn`t be surprised if some of them have trouble finding their way home again after consuming large quantities of vodka all night!  Kerry had laid out some finger food and drinks and we spent the eveing chatting about all sorts of things.  It certainly made a change from watching TV and seeing all the usual New Year stuff that is usually pretty boring, to say the least.

This morning my back was still hurting when I got up, so I decided that a long walk with Jake wasn`t a good idea, just a short amble around the coner and back would suffice.  It just didn`t work out that way and we ended up walking much further than I meant and I felt much better for it.  The longer I`m sitting down the worse it feels so as long as I`m sensible I`ll keep on the move.  My knee and other joints are fine today, just my back and my thumb, and I can live with both of those.  I just don`t have the patience to be bothered by these annoying ailments!

This afternoon we go to Kerry`s again for our dinner.  I`ve cooked a joint of pork and provided a strawberry cheesecake , Kerry will do the potatoes and other vegetables. This is the second time in just over a week that dinner has been cooked and served by our children....wonders will never cease!  I`m very grateful though as they are both good cooks.

I do hope that 2006 will turn out to be a better year worldwide that 2005.  I`d like to think that only good things will happen, but that`s no being realistic.  Let`s just say may the New Year be a great improvement on the last and I hope the world will be a better place to live in for all of us.  I`d also like to thank all my J-Land friends for the pleasure their journals have brought me, thanks also for having the patience to read mine and for the nice comments you have left me.  I did send out lots of New Year ecards and I`ve been notified that they didn`t reach their destinations.....Oh well, I tried, so for now, take care my friends and have a very Happy New Year. :o)

AULD LANG SYNE by Robert Burns

We'll tak a cup o' kindness Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu'd the gowans fine;
But we've wandered mony a weary fit
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidled i' the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught

For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
yet,
For auld lang syne.

It is interesting to know how other countries celebrate The New Year - I like the sound of Slava's ....I could do that lol....(Or could I ..maybe not)...but it sounds a lot of fun...Glad your back eased as you walked Jake...Now you know what to do early every morning...Jake will be so happy... Enjoy your meal with Kerry and Slava....Ally

Thanks for posting the entirety of Auld Lang Syne!  I never realized there were so many verses before.  That's the first time I've seen them in print.

I had the same thing Sandra, I sent lots of e-cards, some were delivered and some were not, got a lot of returned stuff.  Like you I tried.  Glad that you had a nice time with the family.  I shall be cutting down on my journal this year and only posting once a week or maybe twice.  For a start I have been writing so long that I have little left to write about!  Secondly I spend far too long on the computer and realize now that I have to get more active for my blood sugars and my aches and pains.  I would sooner cut down than give it up altogether.  Thanks for you thoughts on other journals. It certainly is always a pleasure reading yours and I treasure your friendship and all the other friendships I have made on here.  I join you in hoping that the world situation will improve.

Glad at least your knee is doing better.   The doctor found a large crack in mine from an old fracture.    It is unfortunate that Jim had to woken up by rude people.   My computer settings will not allow me to view most e-cards, and I just get a red X.   Some cards are suspicious and I delete them.    I also hope that the New Year will bring a more peaceful world.   I have done some reading today about Henry VIII concerning the crown and religion.   With all the advancements giving us a wonderful standard of living we have so much to be thankful for.   The world has changed so much since I was born (1952), that the next decades will bring change even faster.   I can not begin to imagine what the world will be like hundreds of years from now.    mark

Neat, how Russia celebrates the New Year.  I love learning about how each country celebrates.  Like learning each others cultures too.  However, I enjoy being home on New years.  Nice and relaxing after the Christmas holiday...then also on Jan 1, it's time to put up decor and get the house organized and back in order.  Back to work for me today.  It's been nice.
