SEAGULLS, STICKS, TRUMPETS AND FRENCH HORNS

Hello everyone,

It`s pretty chilly today...actually, freezing cold is more like it.  Never mind, I only had to go out once and that to walk Mr Jake, who wouldn`t understand if I were to tell him that I`d rather stay in the warm and would he mind waiting until tomorrow for a walk...lol!  While out walking I always have a look at the houses I pass on route.  Obviously lots of them are decorated for Christmas, some more than others but that aside, I have to smile at some peoples idea of what`s nice to look at and what`s not.  Take for example, one of the houses across the road from the back field where Jake has his morning run.  It is owned by a nice older couple and it is  beautifully maintained.  The only thing that spoils it is the large pair of ornamental seagulls sitting on the inside window ledge.  They look so real that their beady eyes seem to follow you as you walk past....ugh!  If they were mine they`d go straight in the bin.  Another one of the houses has Christmas decorations covering the roof and a few on the outside front of the house.  Now, each time I walk past they have added another couple of decs and now you can barely see the house for santas, snowmen and other Christmassy stuff, before long I doubt there`ll be room to get in and out the front door!  These days on our afternoon walks, Jake and I get some funny looks because he insists on carrying a stick around with him.  It has become a ritual and it`s quite good for keeping him under control.  So intenet is he on hanging on to it that a distraction such as a cat doesn`t have the impact it once did.  He used to lunge forward dragging me along with him.  Nowadays he is so torn between losing the stick and chasing the cat that by the time he`s made up his mind, the cat has scarpered and we resume the walk as if nothing had happened.  That`s a labrador`s brain for you, with absolutely no complexities at all,  a simple soul is our Jake.

About an hour ago Kerry and Slava popped in for a cuppa after spending the afternoon in the town...the fools...lol!  While we were sitting there munching mince pies Jim knocked over the Christmas tree....bless him!!!   He was trying to get to the cupboard in the sideboard to find some DVD`s and didn`t move the tree back far enough and the thing went crashing down scattering baubles, little golden musical instruments, stars and bells all over the carpet.  A terrified Jake ran to his bed and a very  cross Sandra shouted at the culprit...lol!  I managed to straighten out the branches and re-decorate it and Jim has weighed down the base with some more house bricks.  I think it isn`t balanced very well because of it`s narrow base.   I`ll have to see if there`s something else I can do to anchor it next year, with Roman being that much older I don`t want him pulling it over and hurting himself.

I was really pleased with the result of last nights final of `Strictly Come Dancing`.  I thought Darren really deserved to win considering he was the most unlikely dancer at the start of the series.  I did want Zoe to win but after she was eliminated I think all the people who had voted for her switched allegience to Darren.  I know Colin was the best dancer but he will survive and maybe have anew career now.  Anyway friends,  I`m going to have my dinner in a moment so I`ll say goodbye.  Enjoy the rest of the day and stay warm and cosy.

A Cat's Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse.

'Cuz the cat had pounced on him
and tore him apart-
Ate his mousey intestines
And chewed up his heart.

Kitty thought he heard sleigh bells,
which made him take pause-
He stopped daintily licking
the blood from his claws.

"Must be Santa" thought Kitty
(that quite clever cat)
'Cuz nobody else climbs down
the chimney like that.

Indeed it was ol' Santa,
so jolly and fat
With a load of presents
and all for the cat!

"Wow, the best Christmas ever!"
Kitty thought with a purr,
Then he coughed up a hairball
and shed some more fur.

Why was Jim trying to get into the cupboard ??!! dIs he shy, doesn't he like visitors?! Sorry, I'm being silly, I know what you meant, it was just the way you worded it! Trees always seem to be top heavy don't they? Stay warm. Jeannettexxxx

Iwas delighted Darren won the Strictly come dancing final  ,Colin took a gamble and lost by the routine they finished on ,where as  Darren and Lilias routine was spectacular ,wow I sound like a tv critic !! I do agree some people do go over the top when decorating, some of the houses look like mini Blackpool ,loved your cat story ,where do you find them? lol .........Jan xx

Funny thing for Jake to do, carring that stick but if it helps keep him under control then so be it. LOL. You need to take a picture of it though. Poor Jim knocking over the Christmas tree. Hope he found the DVD's after all that trouble. Helen

Sandra your journal is a real festive joy. It's beautiful. Wish aol would let me do another posting - yes they are being a pain in the backside as usual, but I'm hoping normal service will be resumed shortly. Take care.

I love your tags.  They are so festive and Christmasy.  My daughter-in-law knocked over my Christmas tree one year.  Broken baubles and sparkly things all over the carpet.  Glad to know I'm not the only one that has such calamities.  LOL  Pennie

Sandra, its so coldhere and snowing just like in your 1st graphic. I bet Jake looks cute walking around with the stick in his mouth. There are many many homes in my city with so many yard decorations that its unbelievable. They have thousands of dollars sitting in the grass!!
Love,lisa

Sandra, how about the house where the "funny business" was going on...is it decorated?   One year (probably Christmas 1972) our son was 16 months old and we had a kitten about 6-8 months old...the tree went over many times.  Finally my hubby (now ex) nailed it to the floor with big long nails, right thru the carpet.  That was the end of the falling tree.  Happy Monday...Linda

Lol, I know exactly what you mean about 'some people's idea of what's nice to look at!'  We all have different tastes don't we, some more different than others ;o)  It's all fun though.  Bless Jake, a simple soul, I love that :o)

Rumbeau is also very obsessed with sticks as well.  We always warn people not to throw it when he drops it at their feet, but they never listen.  But it never takes long for them to realize why.  LOL!  Life with labs is never dull.

I think some decorations are alright but some people do go over the top don't they?  LOL @ Jim knocking the tree down and you shouting at him.  I can imagine Jake being scared of that poor thing.........

Salty takes of with my hand (which hurts) stopping his lunge.   He will pull so hard he is gasping for air.   I am trying to give him quik pulls on the rope to let him know I am in control.  He is getting a little better.    Jims accident with the Christmas tree must have been a good missed photo opportunity.  lol    mark
