This photo is a production of the musical " The King and I ". Because of the stage lighting during the taking of the photo it doesn`t show off the gorgeous costumes worn as well as it might.
This photo was taken on Deception Island, Antartica in 2001. Kerry said there is nowhere like Antartica for its very strange weather. One moment it can be sunny and calm, the next a storm will come from nowhere. That said, the storms there are very violent but just as quickly as they start they stop again. The safety of the passengers is paramount and they all have to wear specially marked clothing that the ship provides because they have to be seen at all times. Though the snow has melted in this picture, there is still treacherous ice all around. If anyone was to fall into the icy water they could be dead in seconds. It does seem a little odd to me that they have white plastic garden chairs by the waters edge with penguins walking around being nosey ! Kerry says that penguins are the smelliest of birds with the most unfortunate toilet habits whichI will leave to your imagination. Needless to say they only eat fish !

I love penguins, luckily from afar though, so I don't get the smell, or the unfortunate toilet habits!!
