Coincidences

I thought you might like to read these.  I can`t vouch for them all being true but I did think they were interesting.

coincidence, unbelievable, boatLife can sometimes produce fascinating, extraordinary coincidences. Here are a few of the most amazing ones:

In 1975, a man riding a moped in Bermuda was accidentally struck and killed by a taxi. One year later, the man’s brother, riding the very same moped, was killed in the very same way by the very same taxi driven by the very same driver -- and carrying the very same passenger.

Twin brothers Jim Lewis and Jim Springer were separated at birth and adopted by different families. Unknown to each other, both were named James, both owned a dog named Toy, both married women named Linda, both had a son they names James Alan, and both eventually divorced and got remarried to a woman named Betty.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, and John Adams helped to edit and hone it. The Continental Congress approved the document on July 4, 1776. Both Jefferson and Adams died on July 4, 1826 -- exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

A German mother who photographed her infant son in 1914 left the film to be developed at a store in Strasbourg, but was unable to collect the film picture when World War I broke out. Two years later she bought a film plate in Frankfurt, over 100 miles away, and took a picture of her newborn daughter -- only to find, when developed, the picture of her daughter superimposed on the earlier picture of her son. The original film, never developed, had been mistakenly labeled as unused and resold.

In 1858, Robert Fallon was shot dead by fellow poker players who accused him of cheating to win a $600 pot. None of the other players were willing to take the now unlucky $600, so they found a new player to take Fallon’s place, who turned the $600 into $2,200 in winnings. At that point, the police arrived and demanded that the original $600 be given to Fallon’s next of kin -- only to discover that the new player was Fallon’s son, who had not seen his father in seven years.

In the 19th century, the famous horror writer Egdar Allan Poe wrote a book called ‘The narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym.’

It was about four survivors of a shipwreck who were in an open boat for many days before they decided to kill and eat the cabin boy whose name was Richard Parker. Some years later, in 1884, the yawl, Mignonette, foundered, with only four survivors, who were in an open boat for many days. Eventually the three senior members of the crew killed and ate the cabin boy. The name of the cabin boy was Richard Parker.

In 1930s Detroit, a man named Joseph Figlock was to become an amazing figure in a young (and, apparently, incredibly careless) mother’s life. As Figlock was walking down the street, the mother’s baby fell from a high window onto Figlock. The baby’s fall was broken and Figlock and the baby were unharmed. A year later, the same baby fell from the same window, again falling onto Mr. Figlock as he was passing beneath. Once again, both of them survived the event.

In 1973, actor Anthony Hopkins agreed to appear in “The Girl From Petrovka”, based on a novel by George Feifer. Unable to find a copy of the book anywhere in London, Hopkins was surprised to discover one lying on a bench in a train station. It turned out to be George Feifer’s own annotated (personal) copy, which Feifer had lent to a friend, and which had been stolen from his friend’s car.

In Monza, Italy, King Umberto I went to a small restaurant for dinner, accompanied by his aide-de-camp, General Emilio Ponzia-Vaglia. When the owner took King Umberto’s order, the King noticed that he and the restaurant owner were virtual doubles, in face and in build. Both men began discussing the striking resemblance between each other and found many more similarities.

1. Both men were born on the same day, of the same year (March 14, 1844).
2. Both men had been born in the same town.
3. Both men married a woman with same name, Margherita.
4. The restaurateur opened his restaurant on the same day that King Umberto was crowned King of Italy.
5. On the 29th July 1900, King Umberto was informed that the restaurateur had died that day in a mysterious shooting accident, and as he expressed his regret, an anarchist in the crowd then assassinated him.

While American novelist Anne Parrish was browsing bookstores in Paris in the 1920s, she came upon a book that was one of her childhood favorites -- Jack Frost and Other Stories. She picked up the old book and showed it to her husband, telling him of the book she fondly remembered as a child. Her husband took the book, opened it, and on the flyleaf found the inscription: “Anne Parrish, 209 N. Weber Street, Colorado Springs.” It was Anne’s very own book.

Dogs, Cats and Birds

I`ve had a really nice couple of days. Our weekend at Kerry`s was lovely and restful as always, apart from Roman keeping us on our toes of course, though we wouldn`t have it any other way. As the weather was really nice we went into Basingstoke yesterday afternoon to look around the shops, something I should not be allowed to do unsupervised...lol!. I came away with a picture for the living room wall and a ceramic bread bin...I will not divulge the cost because I haven`t exactly told Jim yet and he does need to be the first to know...lol!

We do have a problem with Jake though. When we first took him on at 21 mths, Labrador Lifeline Trust told that he had hip dysplaysia and would need treatment in the years to come. The diagnosis was confirmed by our vet Dominic who has since left the practice. He told us that Jake wouldn`t have problems until he reached the age of 5 or 6 when arthritis would set in, he told us not to worry and let Jake get on with his life. Now it seems it has caught up with him, he is five in March and although not yet arthritic he is experiencing problems now. On Saturday afternoon he started limping heavily and when I looked at his leg he screamed in pain, something he never does so it must have hurt him badly. I gave him a paracetemol and Slava looked in the phone book for a local vet. We did find one but by that time Jake had fallen asleep where we stayed for several hours, the painkiller must have kicked in and relaxed him enough to let him rest. Next morning however he was running round like a puppy as if nothing had happened and we were completely puzzled as to why he was so much better. By the evening he was limping again and we knew he had to see the vet today.

Our vet is a lovely young woman who really cares for the health and welbeing of the animals she sees so we knew she`d have some answers for us. She checked Jake`s hips and confirmed that they are quite bad and she prescribed ani inflammatories and several days rest. She also said that when the arthritis starts, and it will start, they will be able to manage it well. We now know that because of thebad hips when Jake hits the ground when he runs he is more likely to injure himself than a healthy dog would so at least we now know what we`re dealing with and can treat him accordingly. She wants Jake to carry on running and jumping as much as he likes despite his wonky hips and then told me that it`s best he has a good quality short life than a long one wrapped up in cotton wool, Jim and I agree entirely, he would be very miserable if he had to be kept on the lead all the time and we can`t do that to him. She also told us that the tablets we are using are cheaper on the internet and to use a suppliment called Seraquin to help repair his joints, apparently it`s very good stuff so I`ve ordered some already.

Remember I told you about Willow the cat next door? Well it turns out that it wasn`t him that was trapped in the house opposite but it seems they do have a cat who is similar in colour to Willow but much bigger, I was so relieved. Despite not exactly a cat lover I do have a soft spot for Willow, he`s quite mad and unfortunately not the most attractive of cats but he is so sweet natured that you can`t help but love him. I think he might use up those nine lives sooner than he should because he keeps going under parked cars,  jumping in car doors when someone is getting in or out (he used to do that to Slava on a regular basis) and he thinks nothing of running back and forwards across the road which always makes my heart jump.

When I arrived home from work I looked out of the window and noticed that my bird feeders when emptying fast, I was thrilled, then I looked again and saw a goldfinch and knew straight away why the food was going down, they are greedy little things. I looked again and another two had joined him and all at the same feeder too. I love goldfinches because they are so pretty and now there are three they will soon be more.

This photo from the net doesn`t really show the colours of to their best advantage.

This is better but I`ve try to take some myself tomorrow

Anyway, my friends. I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Take care and bye Bye for now. :o)

The Cat is Where?

At last its finished, Christmas is now officially over and how glad I am to see the back of it all. I`ve cut my fingers on one of the glass baubles that customers have broken and sneaked back on display, glitter in my eye from one of the various tree ornamemts, dropped a tree stand on my foot and pulled various muscles from too much lifting but do I complain....me...NEVER?  ......lol!  I`m just happy that its all over until about October!

This morning I was looking out of the window and I noticed a cat in the window of the house opposite. As far as I`m aware they don`t have a cat and certainly not one who is identical to young Willow who lives next door to us. Willow is very curious even by cat standards and I wouldn`t be suprised if he managed to sneak indoors when no one was looking. I`ve knocked next door several times but had no reply.  Hopefully he`ll be home very soon and I can ask him if Willow is missing as he often is. Then he will have to go and see if he has wandered into that house across from me. I`ll let you know what happens.

I took a couple of photos of my new dinig table and chairs, I hope you like them.

The table doubles in size when you pull out the leaves. It`s really sturdy and very practical for the shape of my dining area.

The leather chairs are so comfortable and support your back really well too.

It`s been a lovely sunny day today after a damp and miserable start. I had my coat off at work for the first time this winter so it must be warm. we don`t have any heating in the shop apart from four gas heaters and a small electric fire that I brought from home. It is only January though and I`m sure Winter hasn`t finished with us yet, in fact the sky is very clear and I suspect there may be a frost tonight....brrrr!

On Saturday morning I have an appointment at the hairdresser and in the afternoon we`re going to Kerry`s for the weekend. I`m really looking forward to it because it`ll give me more time with my little family. Jake is really good when we go there, he just makes himself comfortable and we hardly know he`s there except when he wants walking or feeding.

The funeral went as well as could be expected and there were quite a few tears shed. Jim said it was a lovely service and the minister spoke very highly of our BIL`s Mum as you would expect. At one point the minister asked the congregation to refect of the life of M while they played In the Mood, her favourite piece by Glen Miller.

Time for me to go now, theres a cup of coffee with my name on it just waiting to be drunk. Have a nice afternoon, goddbye for now and take care. :o)

Goodbye to Christmas

Photobucket

What a busy morning I`ve had, well two days actually. We`ve been packing whats left of the Christmas stock away and I had to do the forestry (garlands, wreaths, artifial flowers etc.) and it took forever. I had to put all the matching ones together, count them, check the price codes and tie them together. I hadn`t realised quite how many there were until I started this task but I`m glad its all done, at least until next year when they all have to come out again. It won`t be long until Easter....I`m not joking either, we expect Easter eggs very soon!

Yesterday afternoon Kerry came over and we went to Windsor for the afternoon. Roman came running to see me when I got home...I haven`t seen him for nearly a fortnight and I`ve really missed him but one of his cuddles goes a long way, bless him.  He followed me upstairs while I got ready to go out and he kept saying "Hurry up Nana,  lets go out now!" so I duly obeyed...lol! He still has the remains of his cold and has a cough and dark circles under his eyes but he is alright in himself and has a good appetite so he`s doing fine. I bought a new pair of shoes for work as I was really desperate, my old ones have holes in and I`m fed up with my feet constantly getting wet. They aren`t exactly pretty and weren`t cheap but are very comfortable (v.important) and will probably last longer than the last pair which I bought when I started there 15mths ago. It was really nice to be able to walk outside the centre and not have to avoid the smallest puddles. We were going to the river to feed the ducks but the river was very high and in some places had burst its banks so we decided against it. Roman was not to be dissuaded and kept asking when we were going to feed the ducks but luckily he fell asleep thus avoiding him being disappointed.

Yesterday morning I did the silliest thing. When I left for work I jumped in the car, started the engine and put on the wipers to clear what I thought was a wet windscreen....it wasn`t, it was solid ice and my wiper broke up! Well there was no frost which is why I hadn`t realised but still I was cross with myself, now I had to buy a new wiper blade....grrr! Luckily Jim is on late shift and he fixed it temporarily with a couple of elastic bands so I could drive safely to work.

This morning Jim attended the funeral of our BIL`s Mum who passed away on New Years Eve. It`s particulary hard for him and his two sisters because the 25th Jan is the first anniversary of the death of their own Mum, I can`t believe twelve months have passed already. On that solemn note I`ll say goodbye for now. Have a nice afternoon and take care.

Cupboards and Sharp Teeth

Hello everyone,

It`s a miserable, damp day today. We wanted to go out this afternoon just to get some air but we didn`t bother in the end, it was just too wet and where do you go in the rain? Jake had a long walk this morning and somehow he didn`t seem all that keen for another one this afternoon and who could blame him!

This winter we`ve not had many birds in our garden. I filled all the feeders but we`ve hardly had any visitors, just a few starlings, collared doves and magpies and the odd robin. I was very disappointed. On Friday I bought a new feeder that I bought in our shop. It`s bright orange on the top and bottom and is meant to attract the birds and miracle of miracles it worked. Today I was watching blue tits, chaffinches and dunnocks all taking turns at the feeders and I`m so pleased, now I can add other feeders (they have blue and pink ones too!)  and hopefully they will tell their friends to come too!

I`ve was busy sorting out cupboards and drawers all morning and I`ve uncovered so much rubbish. I have no idea why I`ve kept this stuff but it`s now been binned and I have more space, hopefully I won`t be filling it with more junk. In the week I`ll be cleaning out the kitchen cupboards, I job I hate but it must be done.

Jim is much, much better now and is busy complaining again, a good sign that he is almost fighting fit...lol! Kerry rang me to tell me that Roman was much better the day after he had the temperature though he had a streaming cold. I talked to him on the phone and he said he was better but had a "runny nose"...lol!  I was right about children bouncing back.  I still don`t feel right and have a constant headache and was feeling feverish on Thursday night. I know I`m coming down with something and I suspect another cold...sigh.

Last night I woke myself up because I`d bitten my lip but thought no more about it until this morning. I actually have a red bite mark on my bottom lip so I must have been a really hard bite, I won`t be doing that again in a hurry...I hope.

Jim collected the new dining chairs on Thursday and put them together yesterday and I love `em, I`m not sure Jim likes them very much but no matter...I do. I`ll take some photos so you can see what the new set looks like. I`ll also take a photo of the new bird feeder too, it`s certainly different. Must go now because the dinner is ready (chilli in baked potato) and I`m really hungry. Have a lovely evening, Bye. :o)

Wheelbarrows and Viruses

Hello everyone,

I`ve just been reading the comments from the last two entries that I made and I`m really pleased with the comments you left. I really hoped you like the photos and it seems that you did, like I said, I`m very pleased.

I never got to finish making the wheelbarrow that I started yesterday, a colleague at work finished it off yesterday afternoon, thereby saving me the trouble or the embarrassment of not being able to complete it...lol! Work I was really busy at work today but I didn`t mind at all, it has been a nice sunny day and that always cheers me up. I think tomorrow I`ll have a few aches and pains from lifting some heavy tubs onto the shelves but no matter, I`m sure I`ll survive. The weather forecast isn`t good for tomorrow though, or Friday for that matter. I suppose I should count myself lucky there has been even one sunny day....sigh.

I forgot to say yesterday from where I work in the shop I saw a Red Kite flying directly overhead. I haven`t seen one since about June last year and wondered how long it would be before I saw another. It must have been looking for prey because it didn`t seem to be going anywhere in particular, just looking around. Because of the grey, wet weather I didn`t see it`s wonderful red plummage but I was very happy to see the Kite back again and I`ll be watching out for another sighting as they aren`t very common and they don`t often come this far from the Downs.

Poor Roman has the flu-like virus that Kerry and Jim have. Kerry said he didn`t seem very well when he came home from pre-school but now he has a temperature and is complaining of a headache. I spoke to him a little while ago and told him to be a good boy and Mummy would look after him. Then I asked him if he`d like a milkshake (he hasn`t been drinking anything) and Kerry told me he nodded his head, bless him. I wouldn`t be surprised if he is over this virus before Kerry and Jim are fully recovered, children having the ability to bounce back to health so quickly.

Jim didn`t go and collect the new chairs even though he feels much better today. I told him that a few days won`t make any difference and to leave it until he feels up to it. He went out for a walk with Jake this morning and he said he felt much better for it. Now he`s feeling better I just hope I don`t catch it. I`ve taken every precaution so I can only hope for the best with all the nasty viruses and infections that are going around at the moment.

Right, time to go now, it`s almost time for my evening meal and I`m looking forward to it but the thing is I have no idea what to cook...lol!  Bye Bye for now. :o)

Russian Winter photos ~ Final Part

My goodness it`s been an horrendous day weather-wise. The rain has been so heavy, the wind has been blowing hard and the sky almost as dark as night, certainly not a day to make you feel on top of the world.

Jim is home from work with a flu-like virus and though he feels better than yesterday he still feels rather poorly. Still he has me to fetch and carry, make tea, fetch pills, lemonade, an extra pillow, toast and jam, some M&Ms (the ones I took off Roman at the airport) Oh yes, I certainly have been kept busy....man flu is a terrible thing...lol!

Despite the weather I had plenty to do today, I cleaned several more shelves, served a few brave customers and tried to assemble an ornamental wheelbarrow with "easy to understand intructions"...as I said to my manager, "How hard can it be?"  Famous last words, 20 minutes later and no nearer to starting the flippin` thing  she asked how I was getting on.  Do you know she actually laughed at me...lol! Eventually I managed to get the barrow part put together it was time to leave work. I told them I`d finish it in the morning but I`m not as confident as I hoped I sounded!

The above photos are last of the ones Danny took in Russia. I think he`s done a great job considering they were taken in the dark. St.Petersburg really does look pretty in the winter and especially at night.

Jim says that if he feels better tomorrow he`ll go and collect the new chairs from the store, not that it matters, I can wait for them. What DOES matter however is that he gets better soon ans starts decorationg the bedroom....only joking, that can wait until he feels 100% before he get`s stuck into that. Actually we have quite a bit of decorating to be done, when the bedroom is finished the kitchen/diner is in need of a facelift. All it needs is a coat of paint on the ceiling, walls and the doors, fresh varnish on the window sills and some new dining room curtains. The only thing is I have no idea what colour paint I want on the walls, the bedroom I have all planned out but as for the kitchen,  I just hope I have some inspiration.

Anyway, that`s it for today. I hope you all have a lovely evening, take care and Bye Bye.

A Russian Winter in Photos

Hello everyone,

As you can tell from the photos above, they are back from Russia after having a great time. When they arrived there it was -22 degrees celcius/-8 farenheit, flippin` cold if you ask me...brrr!  It turned out that Roman`s warmest clothes were no good in thos temperatures so it was a good thing that his Baba Nadia had bought him some winter tights (they need them!)  a ski-type suit and a special pair of boots to keep out the cold. I had bought him some thermal socks and gloves from Prague so at least I made some contribution...lol!   It wasn`t snowing at first but by the second day, Sunday, the temperature rose to -14 and down it came.  They had a wonderful time in the snow on Slava`s sled that he`d had since he was a boy. I think Roman has been very lucky because not many children in England get to experience snow like that and how many of them get to walk on a frozen lake? It just doesn`t get that cold here and I can`t remember when the snow was deep enough for a sled. It must have been back in the 70`s when my children were small.

Roman had Slava`s cousin`s little boy Andre, as a playmate and they got on really well. Andre is the little boy in the photo that was taken on the Russian Christmas Day. It`s really good because Roman has never really got on well with other children and that has worried Kerry a little bit. Since the move to Hampshire he has certainly gained in confidence and I think this holiday has certainly done him good too. Danny had a great time too though he and Slava are a bit frazzled with looking after Roman between them.....all together now.....ahhhh, poor loves....lol! Now they know what looking after a boisterous two year old is like for kerry on a daily basis!

When we met them at the airport on Saturday evening I ran over to Roman to get him out of his buggy.  In his hands was a huge bag of M&Ms which I promptly removed. If Kerry had been there she would have had a fit if she`d seen him eating all that chocolate at 6.30 in the evening. I told Slava I wouldn`t tell her if he didn`t and he laughed because I knew he didn`t want her to find out either. Roman didn`t stop talking all the way home, about snow, sleds, snowballs and some new Russian words, especially dengi (sic) which means money, one of Roman`s favourite things...lol! He kept giving me kisses and cuddles all evening till it was time to go home and I loved every moment of it, I really missed him when he was so far away.

We are all ill again to some degree, Kerry has flu-like symtoms as does Jim, I have had a sore stomach, headache and constant tiredness since saturday morning. There are so many viruses around at the moment its one thing after another. Hopefully it will get really cold for a while and kill them all off...the germs that is not us...lol!

It was busy, busy, busy at work today with only three of us to run the whole centre. It does happen from time to time and it helps when there aren`t too many customers. I managed to get further on with my shelf-cleaning and its looking so much better, which is more than I can say for my poor back and shoulder but hey ho, thats life. You just have to get on with things despite these annoying little aches and pains....sigh.

That`s it from me today then, I still have more of Danny`s photos to edit and it`s taken me ages already. Now I have to separate them, some for Kerry, some for Dan and some for my journal. I`m sure Dan wouldn`t want me to post a photo of the gorgeous Russian girls he met in a club one evening...lol!  Have a lovely evening, Bye for now. :o)

Retail Therapy and Other Murky Tales

Well I managed to find a really nice table at IKEA but Jim and I couldn`t agree on the chairs so we decided to buy them from somewhere else another time.  We had an enjoyable mooch around, picking up a few bits and pieces en route. I bought a cushion for my bedroom for the crazy price of £1.49/$3, I must take a photo of it and post it tomorrow. I also bought two orchids at £5.99/$12 another very cheap price and excellent quality too, they look better than the ones we have at work that cost much more...and another houseplant but the name escapes me....again very cheap...lol!

Today has been one of those days. I woke up feeling a littleunwell and quite tired despite having had a good nights sleep.  I just carried on regardless in the hope I`d feel better and I did, in fact I actually had a burst of energy that turned out to be just as well. I had so much to do at work today, what with the spring cleaning and several other tasks that had to be done today, by the time I left at 1pm I was absolutely shattered though I had planned to go and see if I could find some dining chairs at a nearby retail park.

Not long after I`d left work I was nearly hit by another car on a mini roundabout (which part of "give way to the right" don`t some people understand?....grrrr! Some very bad language turned the air in my car very blue...lol!  I did reach the retail park in one piece though I have no idea how. The weather is appalling today, very windy and wet and it affects driving conditions as the majority of people know, it`s the others that worry me. Anyway, I walked into Harvey`s and found the chairs I wanted immediately and in the sale too, can you believe it, I know Jim will like too. They`ll be in the shop on Wednesday so Jim will pick them up after work. I had a stroll around Homebase....why do I do these things and bought a few things....I know, I know! Then I went into Matalan and bought a jumper and a skirt....and then I went home with a slightly lighter wallet. I`ve been really good with my money this month so today was ok, I haven`t been spending my wages from lastmonth apart from bills so I thought I`d treat myself, hence the jumper and skirt....lol!

Tonight Kerry and Sharon arrive home from their break in Prague. They are having a wonderful time and will be sorry to leave. Slava, Danny and Roman will be home on Saturday too and I can`t wait to see my Little Man again. Kerry told me that Slava took them tobogganing and that he fell off, this is Slava who has been doing it all his life along with ice-skating and skiing. Danny on the other hand who has never done anything like it didn`t fall off once along with Roman who thought it was great fun to see his Daddy fall into the snow...lol! Kerry forgot her camera but hopefully Danny will have taken some good photos that I can show you all. The above photos were taken on New Years Day when we were all messing about with hats. Please don`t ask why we were because I have no idea how it started but we had a great laugh as you can tell.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot. Do you remeber when I first got my new car the sunroof leaked? and do you remember that it was replaced free of charge by the garage?  Guess what?  it`s leaking again....this time over the passenger seat though only slightly. Let`s just say I am not a happy bunny and I will wait and see just how bad it is before I decide what to do, I have no chance of getting the garage to repair it so I`ll have to look elsewhere...oh dear!  Have a lovely eveing and Bye Bye for now.

Kerry`s Winter Wonderland

Hello everyone,

Kerry and Sharon have arrived safely in Prague and are out and about in a cold, snowy wonderland. I got a text from Kerry saying they had arrived at 8.30 last night and that there was lots of lovely snow. This morning I got several more texts telling me a) it`s freezing and she can`t feel her fingers through her gloves. b) that the cappuchino`s and apple strudel are delicious ( I already know that!) and c) that they were about to have ghoulash soup in a bread bowl (like we had and absolutely loved). I am envious and wish I were there with them...sigh.

Slava on the other hand isn`t having such a good time in Russia. He is being kept very busy by Roman who wants to be with his daddy all the time and won`t let him out of his sight. Also on Sunday night Slava and Danny had gone out for the evening, they had be gone just an hour when his Mum called to say that Roman had woken up and was very upset. It seemed she couldn`t console him and he only wanted his daddy or mummy. According to Kerry he won`t be going out in the evening again as he won`t risk Roman becoming too distressed. In the day it`s different as he gets on well with his Russian family but he doesn`t really know them well and I think the language barrier doesn`t help. At home Slava speaks Russian to him and he understands what is said to him but I think it`s different when veryone around him can`t speak English to him. Kerry and Slava knew the situation was never going to be easy for his parents and I can only imagine how I`d feel were the situation reversed. I just thank God that I have a deep bond with Roman, I couldn`t bear being rejected by him, Nadia must feel dreadful. Hopefully, Nadia and Ivan are visiting Slava and Kerry in September and perhaps it will be easier for Roman in his own surroundings. Also, Slava`s sister is expecting a baby girl in April, her first baby so that will be wonderful them.

We, or I should say I, are having a spring clean of the shops shelves in preparation for the stock we should be getting in very soon. I did most of it myself last year and I know it`ll bethe same this year too. I don`t really mind but it IS hard work and there are still customers to serve and my general shop duties to be carried out. There is a satisfying feeling however to see how clean everything is even though it never lasts very long, I know its done and that`s what counts. We aren`t getting that many customers at the moment and certainly not the nice ones that always smile and chat. With some people it`s all they can do to say please or thank, I know I say it all the time but manners cost nothing and a smile looks much nicer than a frown

Tomorrow Jim and I are going to IKEA to look for a new dining table and chairs. I`ve been looking online and have seen several that I like but I need to see them close up before I decide which I like the best, my old one already has a new home to go to so at least it won`t be going to waste. Last night I was working in the bathroom until 10pm, not all evening but in my breaks from the computer. The grouting between the tiles in the shower were discoloured and badly needed a facelift so I decided to get it done and out of the way. I bought a grout whitening kit some time ago and kept putting off using it but I`m so glad that I have, the difference is amazing, it looks brand new again. I still have a few more tiles to do and it will be perfect. I congratulate myself on my hard work...lol!

Anyway, I must away and contemplate my time without my kids around me........me being me, I quite enjoy knowing there won`t be a knock on the door or a phone call saying " Mummm? I don`t suppose you could do me a big favour...?" At least for a few days I can safely say I won`t be disturbed...lol!  Bye...:o)

They`re there!

They`ve arrived safe and sound and it`s now 11.45pm over there. Slava rang here this afternoon to speak to Kerry and he said Roman has been having a wonderful time there. It`s bitterly cold there though, -14 celcius and the clothes he took there aren`t warm enough for a Russian winter. Luckily Nadia has bought some clothes for him to make sure he`s warm and snug at all times. It should be warmer by tomorrow, -8, freezing to us lesser mortals but to a hardy Russian it`s nothing. Snow is forecast for the rest of the week which will be wonderful for Roman though I doubt he`ll be able to stay outside for too long at a time. The funny thing is, especially to Kerry is that Slava ius finding looking after Roman full time quite hard, he says Danny isn`t helping out at all. Kerry just laughed and told Slav she has to put up with it and so can he, anyway Danny is his uncle not his daddy...lol!

They were lucky with their flight as Jim worked his magic and had them upgraded to business class, much to Danny`s delight, he loves to travel but has never been in business class before. A champagne breakfast it a nice touch, we had that on our way to Prague.

Kerry is staying here tonight before getting her flight to Prague tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow both my children, SIL and grandson have all left the country....was it something I said...lol! Anyway my friends I will away to play some games and read the few journals I have left. Bye Bye. :o)

The Devil and the Case of the Missing Gingerbread

Well they`ve gone.....Danny, Slava and Roman. Their plane to Russia took off at 10am and they should have landed just a few moments ago. Slava and Roman stayed here overnight and I put Roman to bed last night, it was like old times and I loved every minute of it, though I had to convince him that he was going to the airport until this morning and he had to go to sleep first, he was just so excited about going to the airport and going on a plane to Russia. When they left this morning he could only manage to give me a quick kiss and cuddle before telling Jim to "get in the car and drive" he does say some funny things and didn`t stop talking from the moment he woke up early this morning, something tells me he`ll sleep for most of the flight Kerry brought Roman to me late yesterday afternoon along with the suitcases and most important of all, Roman`s little `Thomas` bag packed with his toys and some tasty goodies to eat on the plane. Roman wouldn`t let it out of his sight and kept checking that everything was in its place and ready to go, he didn`t notice that I put a small back of chocolate buttons for him though.

The title of this entry may seem a bit strange but I will explain. When we visited Prague some time before Christmas I bought some traditional gingerbread tree ornaments. After I took the decorations down the other day I placed the gingerbread in a dish on the sideboard. I decided that Roman should have one to eat on the plane as I know he loves it (actually he loves almost everything edible). I put a packet of a star and a bell shape in his bag and thought nothing more about it. Later on I noticed that the dish didn`t have as many gingerbreads as I thought but again thought nothing of it. However.....I looked again later and there were only two left out of about seven...very strange, or not when you consider the evidence that was presented to me. I found one empty packet under a cushion on the settee, surrounded by some crumbs...I found another under one of Roman`s books...another in the hallway and another in the kitchen. It didn`t take a genius to work out who had done it either, it wasn`t me and it wasn`t Jake and there was just one small person in the house...It was the Little Man himself, despite his denials.  Oh well, I didn`t want one anyway...lol! One of the gingerbread men he didn`t eat was the devil himself.....

The Devil himself, Prague gingerbread style

When I asked Roman why he hadn`t eaten the biggest and the most colourful he told me it was " a scary monster" and "Roman doesn`t like it"...ok then, very sensible if you ask me, monsters taste awful or so I`m told...lol!. He has after all eaten all the saints, the cathedral and King Wenceslas himself so he obviously knows his good from evil.

Just a moment ago Kerry rang me to say she hasn`t heard from them but they should have landed in St.Petersburg by now, I know she`ll rest easier knowing that they are safe. She`s also very concerned because it`s -14 degress celcius out there and she is worried Roman will be cold. She needed worry because Slava`s mum Nadia has bought a special coat for him and he already has a thick Russian stle winter hat, gloves and scarf. A pair of gloves and thermal socks from Prague to go with his warm trousers and many layers of clothes and a pair of thick-soled boots that Danny bought him for Christmas. Somehow I don`t think there`s much chance of him being cold, not even a little bit.

Kerry is off to Prague on Sunday with her friend Sharon and it`s -6 over there. Also heavy snow is forecast for tomorrow so I hope she takes her warmest clothes, it was only -2 when we were there and that was cold enough....brrr!

Well that`s it for today. I`m waiting to hear that they have arrived in Russia and Kerry will let me know as soon as she hears. Also isn`t it great news about Jeannette`s grandson Daniel who has just had an operation but is home and doing really well. Daniel is just a month younger than Roman and obviously a brave little chap. I hope you all have a lovely weekend, take care. :o)

Happy New Year!

I know I`m a bit late in the day with my New Year wishes but better late than never. I hope 2008 brings good health, much happiness and prosperity to you all. It`s been a very sad start for my brother-in-law whose mother died suddenly on New Years Eve. On the occasions that I met her I warmed to her and I`m saddened at her passing.

I had the family over for dinner today and though it was a quiet day is was nice to see everyone again. On Friday Roman and Slava will be staying the night because in the morning they are off to Russia for a week. Jim is taking them to Heathrow Airport along with Danny who is going with them.  Kerry is busy sorting out Roman`s warmest clothes,  the weather forecast is for freezing temperatures, while at the same time looking forward to her 4 days break in Prague with her friend Sharon. She is really going to miss Roman but she knows he`ll be well looked after by his grandparents as well as his daddy and uncle. Anyway, the day after Slava etc. fly out (Sunday) Kerry will be here overnight before they leave for the airport for their flight (London Gatwick this time). Sharon`s boyfriend is driving this time.

We went to a New Years celebration at Sharon`s home last night but I left early to bring Roman home to bed. I was happy to leave as I`d been up since 6am and was the only one to have been to work that day. When we got home I got Roman ready for bed and I climbed into my dressing gown and armed respectively with a cup of milk and a cup of tea, we curled up in the armchair and watched Graham Norton`s New Year quiz show. It didn`t take a very tired Roman long to fall asleep and I soon had him tucked up in bed, with me following not far behind. Not seeing in the New Year has never really bothered me though I was woken up by the celebratory fireworks but soon dozed off again.

I didn`t mention in my Christmas entry what presents I received so I`ll tell you now. Jim bought me a pair of soft black leather ankle boots, they are so comfortable and stylish too. I live and die in boots all winter so they have to look good and feel comfy too, these are perfect. He also bought me a jumper, a pair of grey cord trousers and he`s told me he`s getting me something else too, I wonder what it can be? :o)   Kerry and Slava bought us a theatre tickets voucher for any show we want to see, we are thrilled and plan to book tickets to see We Will Rock You, the Queen musical, we`ve always wanted to see it and now we can....very soon I hope. Danny bought me vouchers for Next, one of my favourite shops but I think I`ll wait until the Spring collection comes in, I really don`t need anything at the moment and I don`t want to but for the sake of spending it. Roman bought me a set of Bailey`s, 2 small bottles and a decorative glass. The bottles have been emptied ( hic!) and the glass is on show with all my other Christmas ornaments. I also got loads of `smellies` and mountains of chocolates so all in all I think I did very well indeed.

Before I go I want to wish you all a:

again.........!    Have a lovely evening and a wonderful 2008. Bye Bye. :o)
