Hello Everyone,
I hope you`ve all had a lovely day. It`s Wednesday and I`m still classed as employed...lol I have made a few mistakes, but then again it`s still early days as there isn`t the time or enough staff to till train me properly so I`ve had to do my best, which some time wasn`t quite good enough. The till is like an old computer, slow and liable to crash at any moment. Though just like a computer of any age it gives commands on the screen, while I`m still learning the keyboard1 It`s getting easier and I`m finding more than one way to do a transaction, also I find that a big smile and a cheery Good Morning can dissarm the most difficult of customers. Yesterday was a serious learning curve with it being discount day for the over sixties, it was really busy and I had to get used to a different sytem and some not so friendly customers. One woman took serious offence to being asked for her discount card, claiming that she didn`t need to be reminded she was over 60....she looked closer to 75 but who was I to argue...lol! Mostly though, my customers have been very nice and understanding, and one of them have whispered to me that it can`t be fun being a new girl at my age, bless her...lol! My game plan is to get them on my side so if I`m a bit slow they won`t mind at all. :o) Hopefully, tomorrow will be easier again with even less mistakes than the few I made today. I`ve also been pricing up goods, moving around display tables and putting some Christmas goods out on sale. I`ve been warmed that come the time to put up my Christmas tree I`ll be sick of the sight of them!
It`s really nice to have the afternoons free after work, yesterday I was home at 2.15, I got washed and changed, ate a quick sandwich and was in Kerry`s car bound for Windsor at 3pm. I thought I would be too tired to go out but I found I wasn`t at all, in fact I`m getting used to it as each day passes. The only thing is tomorrow I have Roman at 3.15...then it will be tiring, but that is the reason I took a morning job in the first place so I mustn`t grumble.
I`ve had to make some adjustments to my usual routine. The food shopping will be done on an afternoon when I don`t have Roman or Jim will do it when I`m at work when he is on rest from work. Visits to town will be on Friday afternoons, with me collecting Roman and taking him with me while Kerry goes to work. And the most important is my hair appointments I have every six weeks have now moved from Tuesday mornings to Saturday instead....I told you, very important is my hair...lol!
It`s been really cold the last few mornings and Jim said that there was a ground frost yesterday morning, I`ll be trying out the central heating later this evening I think. The warmest September on record has gone now and October is already much cooler. Out with the summer clothes and in with the winter woolies.....now that`s an excuse to go shopping , I do need a winter jacket anyway. :o)
I`m off now my friends, I`ve read most of your journals but I still have a few more left to read. In future I`ll most likely post an entry one day and read journals the next, that way I can keep up with all your news. I hope you all have a nice, relaxing evening. Take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Glad you are enjoying it, it is best to get the customers on your side, I'd love to come across a friendly cashier at a lot of our shops!!

Hi Sandra, I am glad that things are going well for you. Keep up the good work and those customers will be coming there just to have someone who is friendly to wait on them and give them a big smile. Have a good night. Helen
Sandra I thought of you today when we popped into the local Garden Center ~ A big smile would have helped the lady who served us today ~ and would have made all the difference ~ I am glad things seem to be going OK I am sure they allow for a few mistakes when someone new starts ~ but I know you will give it your best ~ and will end up a treasured employee ~ I know you have adjustments to make to your normal routine but I am sure you will cope ~ and I bet Jake is glad to see you when you get home ~ Ally

If you enjoy something you don't want to give it up...just ask my Mom and my husband....LOL. Your learning so much on the job. Another big change for you, food shopping in the afternoon....I can remember the early morns of 7:30 am or earlier...from my memory. That is a change. Well, I am off to get supper going. Hope you have a great day tomorrow...enjoy!!!!
Hugs and love,
Joyce
Great it is all going so well Sandra and I can tell you are enjoying it. Do not worry about the mistakes, in a couple of weeks it will be second nature. You get sniffy customers whatever line you work in, you can deal with those. My, you are one busy bunny nowadays. I could not cope with it all I know.
glad to hear that you are enjoying your new job, and getting settled, had to put my heating on tonight as it was very chilly nowm I feel as though I'm in a sauna, LOL i'm sure that you will soon get into a routine with Roman, hairdressers and shopping, then you will wonder what you used to do with all your spare time that you had

Sounds like things are going well for you. I had a boss once that said it takes 6 months to feel totally comfortable at a new job. Keep up the good work...Linda in WA
With your sweet personality I'm sure you will win over your customers in no time at all. Most will be patient and understanding because you are new. You are doing a great job of organizing your time. That will help with your adjustment and make life much easier. Way to Go!!!
Hugs, Kathy
