Red Kites, Rain and Wallflowers

Hello Everyone,

As you can guess from the above graphics it`s been pouring with rain today, in fact it hasn`t really stopped for more than a few minutes.  From the garden centre`s point of view it`s a bad day, the weather puts people off and today was no exception. Cleaning and tidying the shop and serving a handful of customers was about all I had to today, and very boring it was too.  I did get the chance to work outside when the rain abated for a while, helping to put the wallflowers out on sale and clear away the the ones that were no longer saleable.  Have you ever smelt rotting wallflowers?  You really don`t want to I can assure you....phewww!  Apart from today being very slow, work has been much easier this week, I seem to have found my feet and no longer feel so stressed when serving customers at the till.  I more or less know what I`m doing and if I make a mistake I usually know how to correct without having to ask for help so often.  While walking around the shop I was looking at the pot plants and the orchids caught my eye.  I`ve never been that interested in them but today I realised just how pretty they are.  Then I wondered.....wouldn`t one of those lovely white ones look nice on my hall table, it`s not in a draft and is out of direct sunlight...perfect.  I think I`ll treat myself at the end of the week.

Yesterday afternoon after work.  I went to Windsor with Kerry just for a walk round the shops and a coffee in one of the lovely little places in the station.  We went to a place called The Cinnamon Cafe where I had a cappuchino and a almond croissant and Kerry, a latte and a blueberry muffin.  Roman had his dinner that Kerry had brought with her.  Now he is walking, Roman doesn`t like being in his buggy, so every chance we get we let him trot along holding our hands (though he would rather go offby himself!).  He really likes certain shops and makes a determined beeline for some of them.  One of them, a discount book shop that sells all kinds of bric a brac, caught his eye and after walking around for ten minutes I had to pick him up or he`d have stayed there all day...lol!  I certainly have fun with him that`s for sure, and he keeps me fit chasing after him all the time.  Ahhh, the pleasure of Nanna-hood...lol!

Kerry come in for dinner as I had a beef and mushroom casserole for dinner that I`d made the night before. It was a new recipe I tried and I was really impressed with the results, especially as I made it from scratch without any added sauces.  Jim had even left me a note to say that it was `excellent` , praise indeed from my dearly beloved.  He was most disappointed to find that Kerry and I had eaten the remainder in his absence.  By the time Kerry took a very sleepy Roman home to bed it was nearly 7.30, far to late for me even to contemplate doing an entry, in fact I nearly didn`t bother going on the computer at all but it got the better of me in the end...lol!

Oh yes, this morning I was lucky enough to be outside when a Red Kite flew by.  I couldn`t believe it because I`ve not seen one in this area before.  It was flying fairly low which made me realise quite how big a bird they are, if only it was a clearer day and I`d had a camera with me, but then I don`t think I`d get away with sitting outside waiting to take photos of birds, even if the centre isn`t very busy...lol! Anyway,  must dash as Little Man will be in 30 mins.  Take care and have a lovely day.  Bye Bye for now. :o)

I am not familiar with the Kites. I googled it up it looks similiar to our hawks or falcons. A beautiful bird as long as they stay away from the birds I feed LOL. The white orchid sounds beautiful.  I bet Romas looks cute walking along looking in the shops. Have a good evening. Helen

Go on Sandra, treat yourself to that orchid. I loved mine and I am hoping it will bloom again.  We had thunder and lightning here. Great graphics, by the way I have not heard from them, you know who I mean.
That is unusual a "man" who likes shops, I am sure he will grow out of it.  You were lucky to see a Red Kite, beautiful birds but I did not know they were in the South East. xxxx

We've been lucky here today with no rain, it was quite warm to. I'm sure you'll have a few slack days now but Christmas is approaching so it'll get manic soon! I love orchids, they're so pretty and last for ages too, I've bought them in M&S and the flowers last for a month or more, go on, treat yourself! Have a lovely evening! Jeannette xx

I am glad that you are getting the hang of checking out customers and figuring out the till on your own.    Perhaps you will become manager some day!     People keep reminding me in your comments that Christmas will be here in no time.    That means being prepared for the cold weather and I have to buy the new parts for my woodburning stove flu pipes and elbows.    I also have little electric heaters around the house ( the best one is the oil filled radiator type ).      I guess you will have to make another beef/mushroom casserole soon for Jim, lol.     mark

Glad to hear you are doing better at work!  When the little ones first start walking it can be tough. Wyatt used to throw a tantrum anytime I would pick him up from walking.  Enjoy the rain... I wish we had some hear :)

You'll end up with all kinds of plants before your garden shop career is over.  If I worked in one, I'd probably never get a paycheck because I'd be spending all my earnings on plants.  Wish the rain would come back here.  We only had a little one day last week.  Today was sunny and up to 72 degrees.  Linda in WA

Sure sounds like things are going great!  How nice.  I think it's a good idea to treat yourself to a beautiful flower after your hard work learning a new job.  You deserve it!  I've never heard of a Red Kite before.  I'm going to check it out and see what one looks like.  Take good care!
Hugs,  Kathy

I looked up a picture of a Red Kite.  It looks like a cross between a falcon and a hawk.  Beautiful!

I don't think that there is anything as boring as a boring day at work!  I think you'll look back on this day, though, and sigh longingly once the Christmas rush starts!

I am enjoying reading your journal very much, but I am most moved by your tribute to Hannah. I lost my favorite dog Jasmine a little more than a year ago prematurely to a blood disorder. I've had other dogs and I love the two I have now, but, maybe because she was the only female I've had, she was the sweetest one of them all. I'm a big man, but I cried like a little girl for three days when she passed. Your tribute was very expressive of my own emotions. Take care.

I would love to work where you work...rain or shine!!  Very pretty rain tags...
You and Kerry have such a very special relationship...I love it.  Sounds like you had a great stroll and the cafe sounded wonderful.
Roman now wants to get out and roam around, no buggy for him, he is so sweet. The casserole sounded good and Jim, leaving you that sweet note, sounded just like something my loving hubby would do.  I do hope your week and weekend ahead is the best...hugs and much love,
Joyce

Hiya Sandra.
My four Grandchildren are well past the first walking stage. The youngest is 6. There is nothing like the feeling of a toddlers hand in yours as they walk beside you.  Regards Dan.
