A Proper Entry ~ as promised!

Hello Everyone,

I seem to have survived my first week at work virtually unscathed.  It hasn`t been plain sailing and I thought it would be much easier than it was,  a bit more confidence on my part would have made things easier all round.  I know the job in theory, I can work the till in my sleep, but in fact is a different matter.  I`m alright with nice people, but when I get a really rude customer who you can`t please no matter what, I get really nervous and make silly mistakes.  One of the girls I work with says that they know the effect they have and are natural bullies, I agree but I wish they`d not pick on me!  One really nice customer said to me that I can`t be expected to pick everything up overnight and everyone has to learn.  It really helps to have lovely people like her and quite a few others, to boost my spirits.  I will be good at this job eventually, come what may!

It`s really hard physical work in a garden centre, much more than I imagined but there are quite a few rewards too. Our plant manager K is a fountain of knowledge, I`ve never met anyone who knows so much about, flowers, trees and shrubs like her.  I`ve been picking her brain over quite a few things and she has given me some invaluable advice.  I intend to keep asking until all the plants in my garden look absolutely perfect...lol!  Yesterday it was a much quieter day because of the appalling weather,  they customers stay away in droves in the rain.  I spent much of the time tidying up the shop, sweeping up and tending the houseplants.  It gets really dirty and housekeeping is really important so everything looks clean and presentable, today my back is a testament to the heavier work I`ve been doing though I`ll grin and bear it.  I`ve lost a couple of pounds in weight too, but then I expected that would happen once I was working again, I`ll be back to my usual weight in no time without having to eat less...lol!

Straight after work yesterday I had barely time to get washed, changed and eat a sandwich before we were out again.  We collected Roman and went into town shopping and to the bank.  We had coffee in Marks and Spencers and Roman had a kiddies pasta meal for his tea.  They`ve just recently started doing hot food so Little Man didn`t have to wait until we got home to eat.  It was lovely, just me, Jim and Roman shopping together and I was surprised just how many people stopped to tell us what a beautiful little boy he is.  One pretty teenage girl said, " Ahhh, he`s well cute...what a lovely smile...he`s well cute..ahhh"  I`ll have to tell him when he`s older that he attracted pretty girls when he was only 15 mths!  We got home at 5.45 feeling very tired, at least I did, Jim was on a rest day and had the day to himself.  I prepped dinner, got Roman ready for bed, cooked dinner, put Roman to bed, ate dinner and eventually by 8pm I managed to go online.  By then though I was worn out and didn`t have the time or to be honest the inclination to do and entry, so I read some journals, though I must confess, not very many. This evening I`ll be baby-sitting Roman again, I don`t usually have him on Saturdays but Kerry is working and Slava is going on a works dinner at a posh hotel in London but I forget which one.  I know it`s a black tie affair that his boss pays for every year for his workers and it`s all free.  He has them taken to and brought back home by taxi cab, which they all need after the evening`s free alcolholic beverages....lol!  I`m sure he`ll have a wonderful time there too.

Changing the subject completely, does anyone want another dog?  I have a young German Shepherd called Marshall, and he`s free of charge to a good home...in fact I`ll pay you for taking him off my hands...lol!  He`s been here since Tuesday and he`s driving me mad and we`ve got him for another week.  It`s not his behaviour, far from it but it`s the constant shedding, I can`t stand it anymore!  This afternoon I washed the kitchen floor.  Not a huge task normally, but today I had to sweep it twice, then run the Dyson over it to make sure there were no hairs left on the floor.  Then I washed it, not once but TWICE, to make sure it was really clean again.  After it was dry I put everything back and walked around the floor several times just to get the feel of walking on a clean floor before I had to let the beast back in again...sigh.  Never mind, it`s only a bit of dirt and I don`t let him into the rest of the house, I need to keep my sanity...lol!

Oh dear, I didn`t realise that this entry is so long.  I`ll take my leave of you now and go and get a cup of coffee.  Have a lovely weekend all of you, Bye Bye for now and take care. :o)

You will settle in Sandra, do not let the rude customers rattle you and be careful of your back.  I envy you tidying up the houseplants, I would love to be able to go and browse them again and choose a couple I would really like to have.  I have cut down on my alerts.  Now I am going to only visit those that visit me on a regular basis, it was getting out of hand and I have had better blood sugars since spending less time on here.  I thought it was unusual you having Roman on a Saturday, bet you could have done with a rest.
Lovely bright entry, beautiful graphics xxxxx

Lovely to hear from you with your newsy entry. Glad you are enjoying working again. About the dog don't tempt me I had one remember me telling you and he was lovely but for the casting coat.  LOve Joan.

Great to hear about your first week.  Yes there would be advantages to working in a garden shop...learning more about plants, trees and shrubs.  I would like that too.  Sorry, no...Gabi & I don't need a dog.  And she sheds too.  I vacuumed yesterday afternoon and about 30 mins later I came back thru the living room and there's a clump of her white fur on the carpet.  Have fun with your little guy...Linda in WA       http://journals.aol.com/lsfp1960/LindasWorld/

Sandy, this was a wonderful entry.  I'm glad that your job worked out fine.  Isn't it a lovely bonus to lose weight in the process too?  I HATE dog hair like that.  Eeeoooo!

Sandra, I love your entries. They are so beautifully written.  The British accent is one of my favorites (I far prefer it over my awful Texas southern drawwwwl).  I can almost hear you speaking through your entry.  It sounds like your week was full, busy and fulfilling.  Why do you all have Marshall so much? I hate it when our chihuahua sheds.  His hair is tiny and black and sticks to EVERYTHING. Have a wonderful Sunday.  Barb

I'm sharing a "bad back week" with you: Had 3 month old Jasmine for the day on Wednesday, she weighs "like a lump o' lard", as my gran used to say. She's really gorgeous though, contented, happy and always eating!
Don't let the horrible folks in this life unnerve you, do what I've learnt to do, glare at them. Usually does the trick.
Take care.
Love Sylvia xxxx

Some people are just born to be rude. Hope the good customers make up for the bad ones. Hope you get some rest tomorrow and I know you will be glad when Marshal's family gets back home. Helen

Sounds like your first week was a big success!  You're learning quickly and it will be no time at all before you are an expert at it!  What a joy it must be to work with someone who knows so much about plants and who is willing to teach you what she knows!  It's worth going to work to learn from her!  I do feel sorry that you are dealing with Marshall's shedding problem.  I don't have a long haired dog because of that reason.  My sister's golden retriever sheds like crazy, too and she's constantly vacuuming and cleaning dog hair.  It may be worse with the changing season.  He'll be gone soon, that's the good news.  : )
hugs,  Kathy

It is a sad thing that some people are so nasty It is almost as if they enjoy being difficult. Not sure why!  Drink lots of water while at work to help with the soreness!!!

Don't let the rude customers get you down. They are miserable people.  I can hardly wait to see what your garden will look like this Spring!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

How can customers be so rude ~ natural bullies just about sums them up ~ I hope nice customers outweigh them ~ Your Plant Manager sounds to be a lovely person and how nice of her to share her knowledge with you ~ Glad You Jim and Roman had a nice time shopping ~ I would take Marshal off your hands but with two Jack Russells who shed their coats I don't think I could cope with another one lol ~ hope you have had a good restful weekend ~ Ally
