Dinner and The Queen

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to a nice sunny Saturday.  Well it is sunny at the moment but I`m keeping an eye on the dark clouds that are scudding across the sky.  It had better not rain on my washing that is drying on the line!  Oh oh....here it comes.......................... I should have kept my mouth shut as it started to rain right after I`d typed the words.  I brought it all in only for it to stop as soon as I went indoors...grrrr!  It`s almost dry so it can stay put, I`m not hanging it out again.

Yesterday I bought a couple of t-shirts from Marks & Spencer.  They will have to do until I get my work shirts and trousers.  I didn`t see the point in spending a lot of money on something that I won`t wear again.  I always wear t-shirts so this way it`s good value.  I hope the deputy manager sees it that way but as long as I`m clean and presentable I can`t see a problem. I did splash out a bit buying some new clothes for Roman now I know I`ll have some pocket money coming in AND I can start planning ahead for Christmas which was a bit of a worry as I like to spend a bit on the family out of my own pocket.  So I`m nervous about starting and I`m relieved that I have a job to go to, talk about mixed emotions.  It`s been 20 years since I last started a job so it`s a very new experience for me.  I always thought Royal Mail would be my employer up till retirement age but it was not to be, though I can`t say I`m sorry as I was so stressed in the last few years working there.  Of course, you are bound by the official secrets act and can`t talk about your time there, even though they don`t specify what you can or can`t say it`s easier to nothing than put your foot in it.   The things I could say.........!!!  I`ve just realised that in one paragraph I`ve jumped from Marks&Sparks to spilling the beans on Royal Mail.....what am I talking about...lol!

This evening Jim and I are going to the cinema to see The Queen starring Helen Mirren.  It`s had really good reviews and they say she could win an oscar for role role as Elizabeth II.  I`ll let you know what I think of it in another entry.  Tomorrow Jim is taking me out for Sunday lunch and I`m really looking forward to it.  My stomach is doing somersaults at the moment because of my job-induced nerves so it will be nice not to have to prepare a dinner, besides, it`s always nice to eat out even if there is no special occasion.

I will take my leave of you now and go and read some journals as I won`t have the time later.  Have a nice relaxing Saturday, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Thank you all.......... :o)

Hello Everyone,

I`m just checking the time, I`m a bit late this evening.  I`ve been running around all day doing this and that, food shopping this morning, lunch at the garden centre cafe with Jim.  I suppose that will come to an end now that I`m working there, I don`t get a break as I`m only there for four hours so either Jim has lunch with me at 2pm when I finish work or he goes there alone while I work...lol!  Thanks so much all of you for your support, it`s been so nice that you were all behind me while I waited for the call that told me I`d been accepted for the post.  To those of you who hadn`t read my earlier entries about the job, it`s in a well known garden centre and I`ll be manning the till/cash register as my main job, but I`ll also be doing other jobs around the shop, and sometimes outside if they are short staffed.  The job will most likely suit me because I like to keep busy and also I don`t mind getting my hands dirty if the job requires it. It`s a really nice feeling to be given a job at age 54 because I`m almost certain I`ve been turned down before because of my age though I could never have proved it, companies are too clever for that.  Never mind though, I`m really happy to be given a chance and so is Jim and the rest of the family.  Jim was delighted when I told him for the same reasons as me.  He told me his company hire people of any age as long as they have the qualifications required for the job.  He should know, he was 49 when he started working there.

I went to Matalan with Kerry this afternoon, she needed to by Roman some new clothes and I needed some clothes for work until I get my uniform.  I have some black jeans that will do for the time being but I also need a couple of dark coloured polo shirts which I couldn`t find at all. Hopefully I`ll pick some up in the High Street tomorrow.  I did find a nice pair of shoes in Brantano show warehouse.  I wanted comfortable and hard wearing and was very pleased with my choice,  I`m going to be on my feet for four hours so they had to be good.

I also have to take my passport, plus a copy of it, my birth certificate, my P45 and my bank details, so I collected them up and sorted out the copy.  Hopefully I won`t forget to take them with me on Monday but knowing me......!   Then the car seat arrived, just a couple of days after we ordered it.  Jim has fitted it already and Roman has tried it for size and seems to approve.  Tomorrow I`ll pick him up with Kerry to go to Snakes and Ladders, it`ll be nice to drive them around for a change.  Did anyone watch Wire in the Blood on TV last night?  I do like that programme even if it is a bit on the violent side.  I don`t think there`s anything worth watching tonight, Jim is watching a horror DVD that he bought the other day...ugh, it certainly isn`t my cup of tea, give me a good costume drama any day!

I`m glad you enjoyed the tale of the haunted dentures I posted yesterday.  I don`t know how true it is but I just had to post it.  Haunted dentures indeed...lol!  I`m going to finish here now and go and read some journals and if I have time play a bit of Bookworm.  Have a lovely evening, Bye Bye for now. :o)

Thank you Nancy for this lovely sig tag

I`m Happy Happy Happy!!!!!

I just had to tell you all, I GOT THE JOB!!!   The manager rang up at 6pm and I was ready to be told that I missed out again.  I nearly fell over when he said it was mine...I`m in shock...lol!  That means now I`m officially employed I don`t have to be so careful with my money....Yippee!  Actually, I`ve always been quite good with money.  I only buy what I can afford and apart from the mortgage, which is now paid off, I`m never been in debt and don`t intend to start now.  It will be nice to be earning again and I miss work...for how long I don`t know.  It`s only four hours a day, 10am to 2pm and the job will keep me busy and pass the time, plus it will give me something extra to talk about here.  I think I`d better tell Jim and the family now, I`d quite forgotten about them in my excitement...lol!

This morning Jim ordered a infant car seat for my car.  It turns out the one in Tesco was from 2yrs upwards so it`s no good for Roman.  Anyway, as I`ve said before the prices online can be so much better and this was no exception.  Yesterday evening my darling grandson pinched my lip and cut it with his sharp little fingernails and it really hurt too.  I sat there wiping the blood away while he laughed and tried to do it again!  Of course, Jim didn`t have any sympathy  at all....hmm, just wait until its` his turn...lol!

I don`t think I told you about next doors guttering did I?  I was upstairs yesterday morning when I heard a loud crash outside.  I ran to the window but couldn`t see anything so I forgot all about it and carried on with what I was doing.  Later, Jim told me he saw the whole thing, he heard a loud crack, looked round and the guttering was coming away from the wooden frame that held it in place.  Then the whole thing came crashing down. The thing is the same thing happened to us about 10 yrs ago.  The man who fitted it was recommended by the same neighbours....He`s excellent, they said, and very cheap...that should have started alarm bells ringing but we obviously weren`t listening hard enough at the time.  This chap P put new guttering up at the front of the house...at the time I thought he was a bit `couldn`t care less` about his work but thought he must know what he`s doing...famous last words.  Three months later it fell down again.  I tried to contact him but he just said he`d be round in a day or two, then he said he was going on holiday, then he stopped answering the phone altogether so we gave up and paid for a proper company to do the job.  It wasn`t cheap but it WAS an excellent job and what we should have done in the first place.  Anyway, our neighbour was really happy with the work P did for her and she even defended him saying that he had family problems and it must has affected him somehow. Oh really...that`s alright then.....but do you know where we can contact him to get our money back???  She didn`t. So now after all this time, the first piece of guttering has fallen down, you can bet your life the rest will follow.  I know it`s been 10yrs but he did the same shoddy job for them that he did for us, do I care?  Not a jot.

Right, I`ll take my leave now and read some journals, but I`ll leave you with a ghost story with a difference that I thought you might like.  Bye Bye. :o)

THE DENTURES OF DOOM

One cold winter evening many years ago a poor woman was searching for sticks to light a fire. It was a bitterly cold day, the snow was falling and she badly needed to warm her cold old bones. Her search led her through the churchyard at Perranzabuloe, Nr. Perranporth, Cornwall, where she noticed a curious looking object protruding from the earth on a grave. She paused to examine it further and imagine her delight when she discovered it to be a set of perfectly serviceable false teeth!

Reasoning that they were of no further use to their previous owner she pocketed them and hurried home, intent on trying them out for size. She was pleased to find they were an adequate fit, and feeling pleased with herself she went to bed, leaving her "new" teeth in a jar by her bedside. That night she was awoken by a scratching on her window. She sat up in bed and listened. The scratching came again - followed by a ghastly voice which could be heard croaking beneath her window...."Give me back my teeth!" Panic stricken she flung the teeth out of the window, not daring to look in the direction of the voice. It ceased abruptly and she slept fitfully for the rest of the night.

In the morning she she ventured outside into the snow.It lay thickly spread beneath her window, but search though she might there was no sign of the teeth..Nor were there any footprints in the snow.

Things to do on a Tuesday.....

Hello Everyone,

I hope you`re all having a lovely day, the weather is gorgeous again today after an evening of heavy rain, thunder and lightening yesterday. The ground is so wet there are toadstools on the lawn and around the plants.  Not long ago there was a water shortage but they surely won`t be able to say that for much longer.  The last I heard there was still a hospipe ban in our area, like we need one of course...lol!

Last night Roman was into everything and I certainly needed my wits about me. He has discovered that not only CAN he turn the DVD player on but now he tries to do it over and again, despite me telling him off and constantly moving him away.  I daren`t turn my back for a moment or he`ll have found some more mischeif to get into!  He`s  teething again and there are four of them coming up at one, though thankfully he doesn`t seem to be in any distress, just the usual sniffles that babies get at such times.

This morning Jim and I went into Tescos to buy a present for baby Harry and also to buy a car seat for the back of my car.  The one we wanted won`t be in stock until Tuesday ( it`s a special offer) so we`ll have to go back again next week.  I didn`t leave empty handed though as Jim kindly bought me an apple corer for 97p, wasn`t that thoughtful of him?  Actually I`d been looking for one, saw it and just popped it in the basket and let him pay for it..hehe!  When we got home I went online and treated myself to the latest Zutons CD.  I`ve fancied it for a while so I thought why not, and of course from Play.com it`s several £`s cheaper that in the shops.

I`ve been playing around with Microsoft Movie Maker this morning.  I actually made a video with some photos of Roman but I won`t to go one better and make a video when we go out one day. I`m not sure I know what to do but I`m sure I`ll manage somehow.  Jim has some very sophisticated programs for his camcorder but he says they are too complicated and he`ll try Movie Maker as it seems much more straight forward, his words not mine. Still photos are one thing but movies another!

I have been hoping to use some Autumn style graphics but with this lovely sunny weather it doesn`t seem right somehow.  Even though the leaves are falling there`s it just doesn`t seem like the Autumns we usually have.  Perhaps it`ll change soon, perhaps it won`t, perhaps it`ll stay this way right through the Winter.  Nothing would surprise me weather-wise anymore.  Right, that`s it for me for today.  I want to read some journals before Roman arrives at 4.30.  Enjoy the rest of your day, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Waiting and Hoping

Hello Everyone,

Just a flying visit from me today.  The interview at the garden centre went really well and whatever happens I know I did my very best to impress.  It`s now a case of whether they think I`m right for the job, I`ve a 1 in 5 chance, so fingers crossed...they`ll let me know on Thurdays evening.  I`m trying not to get my hopes up because I know I`ll be really disappointed if I don`t get it, so I`ll let you all do the hoping for me...lol!  I`m going to say goodbye now as I have lots of journals to read before I have to sign off at 9pm,  I hope you`ve all had a lovely day, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o).

Cheesecake and The Yellow Sky

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Sunday`s edition of my Scribbles.  I awoke this morning to a yellowish glow coming through the curtains,  very odd.  I got up and peeped outside to find that it was raining heavily, to put it mildly.  Thunder was rumbling around and I thought after yesterday`s weather forecast it was in for the day.  AOL Weather said so and they are always right as you all know...lol!  Anyway, once the rain stopped half an hour later the sun came out and has stayed that way since then and it is quite hot too.  I want it to stay that way, at least until after my interview, I am always at my best when the sun shines, after that it can do its worst!

Jim is working on late shift today, not something I enjoy on a Sunday.  Goodness knows why it makes a difference, maybe it`s because it`s so much quieter outside, I just don`t know.  He`s just called me from work saying that it`s really hot working on the runway and that he`s hungry because he was asked to go in early, consequently missing his lunch.  Not to worry though as he was digging into his sandwiches a bit earlier than usual so he won`t go hungry.

Last night there was a knock at the door, I looked out of the window and there was Danny.  He told me he had come bearing gifts and that it was only a flying visit so I rushed to the door to see what he`d got.  There he was dressed in cropped combat trousers and flip flops with a big grin on his face, holding a vanilla cheesecake from Sainsburys and a book on EXCEL.  I felt really touched the book, he knew I wanted to learn more about EXCEL and he`d borrowed from a chap at work for a couple of months in exchange for several  CD`s that he wanted to borrow!  I didn`t have the heart to tell him that I`d lost the program when the computer crashed and haven`t been able to got hold of another copy as yet.  Anyway, the cheesecake more than made up for that and I was looked forward to tucking in after Dan had gone.  He and Salina have been looking for a new car and have been scouring the surrounding countryside for the right one.  He has been very sensible and refuses to go over budget despite having seen some really good models that cost a bit more.  That`s my boy, I taught him well!

I meant to tell you the other day that I`ve finished planting out the winter pansies and some are in flower already.  I`m sure the combination of rain and sun we`ve had lately has brought them on.  I only hope the pansies and the other plants that have recently gone in will stay there as Jake has just dug up a petunia that still had a good bit of life left in it.  I was rather cross with him I can tell you, he`s obviously been paying far too much attention to Marshal and that will never do...lol!  Talking of which, Marshal will be back with us sometime next week I think....I`m sure I`ll cope...at least I hope so!

This evening there is a new production of Jane Eyre on the TV, at least the TV guide says it is.  I told Jim that I was sure I`ve seen it before but he insisted it is the first time it`s been shown...hmmm, we shall see.  Anyway, time to read some journals before I prepare myself some dinner and take Jake for a stroll.  Have a great day and Bye Bye for now. :o)

A Hot and Busy Day

Hello Everyone,

How lovely to be able to relax at last.  I`ve been online most of the afternoon but not permanently.  I`ve been stopping and starting whilst running around doing this and that round the house.  Now it`s all done, at least for a few days anyway.  Apart from a huge pile of ironing but that won`t be a problem will it Jan?  I`m sending it all over to your house...I know where you live...lol!  Blame it on the lovely drying weather..hehe!

I knew the good weather hadn`t deserted us as yet and I felt really hot whilst walking Jake this afternoon. I predict more of the same but the weather forecast doesn`t agree and says we`re to expect more unsettled weather next week....boo!  Today Jim recieved an email from his brother`s wife saying they have a new grandson born two days ago.  He is the first child of our nephew Andy and he and his partner have called him Harry.  It is good news but it`s unlikely that we`ll see him in the near future.  Jim hasn`t seen his brother since Kerry and Slava`s wedding blessing over two years ago.  Families eh?

Jim told me about a dreadfully disturbing item in our local paper this morning.  A dog was thrown 150 feet out of a window in a block of flats.  They did it because they thought it was funny apparently.......  FUNNY???  It made me cry and I felt even worse when Jim told me the dog didn`t die instantly and had to be put to sleep. The dog was a beautiful, trusting Staffordshire Bull Terrier and didn`t deserve such a horrendous end to its life. I just hope the individuals responsible are caught and soon.  Witnesses say they saw three teenage boys, aged between 13 and 18 running away from the building laughing.  I won`t tell you what Jim said but you only have to use your imagination.  I just wonder if they can sleep at night..though I`ll bet they can. That poor creature.........

We`ve been having some trouble with our next door neighbours children of late.  The problem is that they fight between themselves, not the usual sibling rivalry but nasty, violent fighting, mainly over the computer and having to go to school.  The language is appalling and we can here every word of it.  Sometimes it happens when the parents are home but they do nothing at all.  It`s no point in even having a word with them to see if they would ask them to quieten down a bit because they won`t take any notice. Before long one of the boys will injure the other and then goodness knows what will happen...sigh.

Anyway, on that cheerful note...lol!  I will say farewell to you all and read what`s left of my journals.  I hope you all have a very nice evening, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)
