Hello everyone,
I can`t believe I haven`t posted an entry since last Wednesday. I`ve never done that before apart from when I`ve been on holiday or unwell. It`s just that I`ve been far too hot to sit at the computer for long periods and I even turned off my journal alerts. I thought today I`d have a go despite the fact that I`m melting with the heat and Roman has the only fan in the house, bless him. He doesn`t seem to be bothered by the heat in the same way that us adults are, but I suppose babies, older ones at least, have more effective thermostats.
What a weekend it`s been for British sport, England were knocked out of the World Cup by Portugal on Saturday. Also Scotland`s Andy Murray who sensationally beat Andy Roddick at Wimbledon, lost today to Marcus Baghatis (?) in straight sets. Oh well, there`s always next year for young Murray but as for the England team, the least said the better. I have spent some of my time watching Wimbledon over the last few days. I`ve also spend a lot of time in the garden weeding and improving the ground and putting in some more plants. I`ve got a rather sore back and shoulder but also a rather nice sun tan so it was worth it! I could only do an hour at a time because of the heat but I had concede defeat because the ground is hard as concrete and only a pneumatic drill could make any difference to it, but that would be a little extreme so I`ll wait until we`ve had some rain...lol!
I found out more about the fire that I told you about last week. When I went looking for it I couldn`t find it because the house in question has a really high, overgrown hedge. Apparently someone set fire to it deliberately and there were several gas cylinders inthe garden, one of which exploded and that was the reason for the evacuation, the police presence and helicopter and road closures. I don`t know who lives there now but the previous owner`s son was in my class at school, I thought you`d like to know that...lol!
The book I told you about, Marley and Me is a really good read. John Grogan manages to tell his story with both humour and irony, Marley comes across as a lovable rogue and I`m finding myself laughing out loud the trouble he causes his owners, while in reality if he were my dog I`m afraid laughter would be the furthest thing from my mind! I`ve read 13 chapters and I`m looking forward to the rest of the book. I can now wholeheartedly recommend it to you as a worthwhile read, though I`ve been told that the ending is very sad.
The above photos were in the main taken yesterday apart from the fishing photos that Jim took on Friday. His photos don`t contain any pics of him with his latest catches because he only caught a few tiddlers, his mate Steve however caught loads of them! The photo of Kerry and Roman on the seesaw was taken last Thursday, I think. Runnymeade was really packed yesterday as everyone and and his wife had the same idea that we did. Take a picnic and sit on the river bank of the Thames. We were very lucky in that we actually found a place to sit with a tiny amount of shade but we still enjoyed our lunch of cajun chicken baguettes and rocket salad and tomatoes with potato salad, all made with my own fair hand...lol! Danny decided he wanted to explore and set off in search of the Magna Carta site and the Kennedy Memorial. He found both but was more interested in Cooper`s Hill war memorial. It is a peaceful place with a fantastic view of Windsor, Eton and miles around. He told me he walked around and huge couldn`t believe how many names there were of those who gave their lives for our freedom in WWII. He told me the place had a certain peace to it which he liked,I know what he meant because I`ve been there several times and it does have a very special feel. Doring the afternoon I took photos of the passing boats. I love boats even though I don`t know a thing about them, I just think it seems such a nice way to pass a Summer`s afternoon. Eventually the heat got the better of us and we headed for home after taking Danny home. It was a really nice afternoon and had it been a few degrees cooler we might have stayed until the evening.
Before I go, we are looking after Jake`s GSD friend Marshall because his owner M`s father is seriously ill in hospital and has had to travel quite a distance to see him. Please keep M and her Dad in your thoughts tonight please. Right, I think that`s enough from me for one day and I must read at least some of your journals tonight. I hope you`ve all had a lovely day, Bye Bye for now and take care. :o)

Sandra,
Glad you're back. Sorry it's been too hot for you to journal. I've just been back from our trip to up to South Dakota. I haven't even taken the time to upload all the photos to the computer yet. Hope you have a good week. Take care of that sore shoulder.

I really enjoyed the pictures. Are the long boats privately owned? Do people live aboard them? They look very nice. I will keep your friend and her dad in my thoughts and prayers. Hope he's feeling better very soon. Kathy
Hi Sandra,
Great pictures. Did not know Murray had gone out. Gutted about the England team, so sad to see them all crying like that. Been far too hot for me to even step into the garden and far too hot to use the computer although I did post Birthday pics a couple of days back. I am spending the days in the bedroom with the curtains drawn and all the fans going. Best way. Luckily Mike is watering the garden for me.
Welcome back! I enjoyed the pictures.... what's rocket salad?
~~Kath~~
Hope it cools down over there. Do you have a/c? Or is that an American thing. LOL. I know so little about other countries.

Your pictures are so nice. I've never seen such narrow low boats like those. I'd love to go on one and see what it's like.
