A Fishy Tale

Hello everyone,

Whew...what a scorcher it`s been today. I don`t know exactly how hot it is but it has to be in the top 80`s.  At the moment I can stand the heat but I`d prefer it if it didn`t get any hotter.   Jim has left me today to go to sea with his mates, not to take the Queen`s shilling but to see if he can catch some fish for the freezer.  I think he must be on his way home now as I`m sure he said they get back to port at about 4pm, hopefully with a cool box bursting with fish...I`ll let you know tomorrow.

This morning early I took my car for it`s MOT, thankfully it passed and I even got a discount because I found a voucher in the paper for a different garage from my usual offering £15 off the usual price, that gets me every time!  I chatted to the cheerful receptionist there who managed to tell me her life story in the 30 mins that I was there...Oh well, it helped to pass the time!

Do you remember that I told you about my neighbour B?  He is a very lonely single man who lived with his Mum and brother.  Well this morning I found a handwritten note that had been pushed through the door, it was from B telling us that his Mum had passed away from Leukemia on the 3rd July.  The poor man,  I felt so sorry for him, if only we`d known before we could have at least sent flowers.  Later this morning I saw him went I went to buy a newspaper and we had a chat outside the shop.  Naturally he is deeply upset and completely lost and is even worried that his council owned house may be taken away from him now.  He told me that a local councillor has told him it isn`t likely that will happen and is looking into it for him,  I would be a scandal if he and his brother are moved from the only home they`ve ever known, after all, it`s only a tiny house and not big enough for a family.  I asked him if he`d thought of joining a church group and he said that his minister had suggested a singles group at the church hall and he`s going to give it a try.  I do hope he will adjust to his new circumstances, he does deserve some happiness in his life.

Yesterday I was ironing for over 3 hours and in this heat it wasn`t easy, I can tell you.  I had to keep stopping and having a rest, then starting again.  I never thought I would get finished.  That`s the thing with Summer, we change our clothes more often and they are usually made of materials that have to be ironed.  I wish somebody could invent a fabric that was light, comfortable and would definitely NOT need ironing.

Kerry and Roman were here this afternoon, we didn`t sit in the garden as there were swarms of flying ants about and any way it was cooler for Roman inside.  The little scamp has several bumps on his head that he has collected over the weekend, but as I said to Kerry, this is just the beginning!  I have to move everything now and once he`s set his heart of something he flies across the room with me or Kerry in hot pursuit, it`s only a matter of time before something get`s broken.  He almost had the fruit bowl off the sideboard this afternoon and wasn`t impressed when it was moved beyond his reach.

One of my new roses has flowered but I want to wait for another day of so before I take a photo of it, there are so many buds and I think it`s going to be gorgeous when they all open.  Jim has just got home and he`s put the camera down beside me, obviously that means photos for tomorrow and judging by the colour of him the weather was excellent too, he`s as brown as a nut...I wish I went that colour in the sun, I`m brown but not THAT brown.  Right,  I`d better go and see how he got on today and ask if he wants help gutting the fish...no, I was only joking, there`s no chance I`ll be doing that...lol!  I hope you`ve all had a lovely day.  Take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

I hope Jim did catch some fish for you to cook. I have helped Ken clean a lot of crappie. Since I can't eat fish anymore we don't clean any. We just  give then away or put them back. I don't do any ironing anymore. Just wear cotton knits and hang them as soon as they come out of the dryer. Looking forward to seeing Jim's fishing pictures. Helen

Yes, Roman will get quite a few bumps and bruises along the way now he's getting around! Poor B, the council can't move him, as long as he's lived there for at least two years they have to transfer the tenancy over to him. I hope Jim got yopu some nice fish to cook! Jeannette xx

Sandra, sorry it's so hot over there.  We are supposed to reach the 90's this weekend.  Today was sunny but real breezy and cool here.  Then the air conditioning in the office was all messed up and we about froze to death until someone called maintence over to see what was wrong.  Someone had turned a thermostat in a back office down to 55 degrees....YIKES, it was cold!

Oh how I would love to have my hubby go fishing...it must relax Jim and his mates. Hope he comes home with a boatload for the freezer.  It was 104 here Sandra...way too hot to do anything...could not even breath going outside.  You sound like me talking to someone and telling your lifes story in 30 minutes...LOL.  Mine would be in 10...kids, grown kids and dogs!  LOL  Oh, need not forget hospital cafeteria foods!  Of which I am now an expert.  LOL  Roman sound so cute getting into everything. That poor man, he is in my prayers.  I love reading about Roman and your family and your adventures.  Love you and your journal!  Hugs and love always,

Poor Roman's little noggen.  They sure take their share of bumps when they are learning to walk.  I hope Jim caught lots of fish.  It looked like a beautiful day to be out fishing!

Hi Sandra:

Just droping by to say hi and see what is going on in your world.  Is it really humid???  It has been about 112 all week here and I have to keep my air conditioning at 82 and that still gives me a whopping electricity bill haha!  Well stay cool and take care!

Big Hugs... Kara

I hope Jim had a good catch to bring home.    My sister-in-law and nephew are in Siberia visiting her parents.    Their plane was delayed and re-routed after the disaster of a plane catching fire after a brake problem on landing.    Their plane was the next one to land.    It is kind of you to be supportive of your neighbor during his time of loss of their mother.    It is 97F at 1:50 pm here in S. Illinois.    We poured 10 bags of 80 pound concrete yesterday to make a foundation connecting to my kitchen foundation for a load bearing post to the second floor and roof yesterday.    I began working on it at 12 pm and my neighbor came over to help and we worked till 5 pm.    Today I am staying inside and have had the A.C. off which is a window unit next to my computer and need to just let the cooled house air and a little fan cool me.    My neighbor should be over in an hour and I will put on my work clothes and pour sweat until dark.    mark
