What`s Going On Here Then?

Hi everyone,

It`s been a beautiful day today here in my little corner of J-Land.  It was raining first thing but it soon cleared away leaving the rest of the day sunny and very warm.  I didn`t post yesterday as I just didn`t have the time or energy.  I was out all my morning in town with Kerry, then in the afternoon we went into Windsor and took Roman to the river to feed the ducks.  He wasn`t in the slightest bit interested in our feathered friends and preferred to gnaw on a small crust of the bread we were throwing.  After that we sat on the grass watching the cabin cruisers go by wishing that we could join them onboard oin such a lovely afternoon, instead we had to make do with an ice cream each which we ate with relish.  There`s not much wrong with the world when you are sitting by the river watching it go by.

We found out yesterday morning that there had been an explosion nearby the night before, we knew something was going on as several fire engines passed our house in a real hurry on Thursday evening, and there had been a Police helicopter hovering overhead for over an hour ( and very annoying it was too!)  I didn`t really take too much notice at the time because living so close to a large hospital we hear sirens and see the flashing lights of the ambulances all the time and we are used to them.  Fire engines included because of the drills that are carried out several times a week.  Anyway, on Friday morning we were at the hairdresser`s to get Roman`s hair cut, ( hairdresser`s always being an excellent source of local information).  The problem was said one of the stylists, that everyone who came in had a different tale to tell. I will give you a few examples.

Two separate houses caught fire, in two separate roads....yes, really!

One house caught fire and it had gas cylinders in the house that exploded/were likely to explode.  The whole street was evacuated and they were housed overnight in the local primary school.

A house across the road from the local primary school blew up (?)   Gas cannisters again.  The children from the school were evacuated until it was safe to go back again.

Whatever really happened was enough to close off the main road through the estate overnight and cause a heavy Police presence through till Friday lunchtime.  I will read all about it in next weeks local paper and you will be duly informed of the facts.  As far as I`m aware nobody was injured.  On the Friday morning before Kerry and I left the house, there was a knock on the door from one of the men who have come to re-surface our road to ask me to keep my car parked off the road. It was then that I noticed a Police wagon parked right outside my house.......Oh heck, I`ll have to ask him to move so I can drive my car out.  I had images of my tapping on the window asking him to move along please...lol!  Kerry had to put Roman`s car seat in the back of my little Clio, not a job for the feint-hearted I can tell you.  It only has two doors and is a very small car, I had to cover Roman`s ears so he didn`t hear his Mummy muttering the odd Anglo Saxon word or two...lol!  All the while the policeman were looking right at us and it started to be just a bit unnerving.  People were driving past and giving us very funny looks...I`ll bet they thought we`d been raided!  Don`t worry we got rid of the stuff yesterday....lolol!  Luckily for me I didn`t have to move them on, because a couple of plain-clothes bobbies  turned up and jumped in the back of the van and they drove away.  I think it was to do with the fire incident, unless of course we ARE under surveillence...lol!

Today has been so busy what with the amount of housework I`ve done, I always do quite a bit on a Saturday but for some reason I decided to do  more than usual...goodness knows why, nothing ever really gets dirty with just the two of us but I suppose I`m a bit houseproud and I feel it has to be done regardless.  I must be mad, I`ve now got a huge pile of ironing that must be done tomorrow...that is unless Jan (Jeadie) is free, she absolutely loves ironing.......  Erm...you do don`t you Jan....???   lolol!  Anyway,  must dash, emails to open and journals to read!  I hope you`ve all enjoyed your Saturday, have a lovely evening and I hope to be back here tomorrow after an England win over Ecuador in the World Cup quarter-finals.  Bye  Bye for now. :o)

Isn't it funny how these 'Chinese Whispers' go?  And the true story of the explosion is probably nothing like any of them.  Do tell though, won't you! - love, Angie

Perhaps the local authorities have heard about all the gardening that has been going on in your yard and want to check out what you've been planting.  LOL  I'm surprised Roman wasn't more interested in the ducks!  Maybe next time.  Your day out sounds so nice.  Makes me want to get in the car and go somewhere!   Kathy

I also go mad with cleaning on a saturday, I wonder if its because my Mum always used to tell me that all the previous weeks dust had to be cleaned away for Sunday , as Sunday was a day of rest, but then again it could just have been her way of getting me to tidy my room. LOL
take care Lynne xxhttp://journals.aol.co.uk/tillywooat62/WelcometomyWorld/

I bet people thought you never feed Roman and he has to eat the ducks bread, poor little soul! I wonder what was going on with all the sirens, I'm sure you'll let us know! Jan loves ironing, I never tell her when I have any to do, I know she'd be on the train to Brighton to do it! Have a lovely Sunday. Jeannette xxxx

Oh Sandra, don't make me laugh.  My stomach still hurts and I'm not over whatever "bug" I've had.  We hope to leave on our vacation tomorrow.  I just chuckled when I imagine you asking the local law to "move along" "nothing here to see".  Hee hee.  You are such a great writer.  No photo of little Roman's haircut?
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Hugs, Barb

Hi Sandra!  I can't wait to find out what all the commotion was about!  I do hope nobody got injured....or worse!
LOL on Roman eating the ducks food.  My son used to do that.  He LOVED feeding ducks when he was little...but he always had to have some bread, too! LOL!  Once, we were feeding ducks and got overrun with LOTS of ducks and geese.  The geese were taller than HIM at the time. He and I had to stand on top of a picnic table to get us out of the mob! LOL!
Have a good weekend, Sandra.  ~~~Pamela

Sandra, I have ironing to do too and it's supposed to be in the high 80's here.  I have to iron, because I washed all my work slacks and some summer blouses.  I guess I could call in sick Monday since I have nothing to wear if I don't iron. Linda in hot, hot western Washington
