A Troublefree Day!

Hello everyone,

I`m writing this in the middle of a heavy downpour.  It suddenly came over really dark, there was a flash of lightening, a loud crack of thunder and down came the long awaited rain.  It`s so much cooler now and far less humid, I wonder how long for though.  My back lawn has flooded and the shrubs and flowers are getting a good soaking, as are the mothers with their children from the school across the road!

Danny rang us last night to say that he`s spoken to his landlady and she is going to sell the flat after all.  It turns out that he hasn`t done anything wrong but the owner of the building wants to have new windows put in all the flats, she doesn`t want to pay for the them so she`s selling the leasehold.  I remember now just before Dan moved in that she told him that she didn`t knowwhether to rent again or sell up.  I think it really unfair to let Danny take on the lease and then cut it short because she can`t be bothered to make improvements.  Anyway, he`s decided to take his holiday regardless as he hasn`t had one for so long.  He`s being very upbeat about the whole situation and though we have told him he can come back home until he can sort out a new flat, he has declined the offer because he needs to be in that area for work and of course Salina, who lives close by.  He`s very independant and I love him all the more for it!

I read in the local paper that young Daisy, the little girl who desperately needed a new liver has had a transplant last Friday.  She recovered so well that she was off the ventilator by the Saturday lunchtime.  It didn`t take her long apparently, to start asking for crisps and chocolate but she was only allowed fruit, yoghurt and cornflakes.  Her Mum Lynn  says that instead of being yellow, her cheeks are now rosy and her eyes white and clear.  Daisy will be in hospital for several weeks and her doctors say that the new liver is working well and the prognosis is excellent.

This morning is was busy, busy, busy again.  Jim took his car to have the air conditioning serviced and refilled, then he took the damaged tyre off of Kerry`s car and went to buy a new one.  Later we had lunch at the garden centre cafe, then we wandered around looking at some more flowers, I`ve got my eye on a beautiful scented, climbing rose and am trying to get Jim interested in it too!   I ended up buying a small `Nelly Moser` clematis to replace the one that Jake finished off.  Hopefully he`ll leave this one alone, that`s if he knows what`s good for him...lol!  When we got home we did some tidying up in the garden, I moved another clematis to a trellis so it can climb properly ( it was previously growing round a small tree).  Then I cut back the chives and the aubretia, uncovering loads of slugs in the process...ugh!  Jim and I were chatting away out there when he asked when the hydrangeas were going to flower.  He told me that he didn`t really like them as he thinks the flowers are too big and ugly.   I couldn`t believe it because I`ve never liked them either, I only planted them because I thought HE liked them, talk about lack of communication, now I can dig them up....lol!

The rain is much lighter now and all the water has soaked into the ground making it less like concrete.  As soon as it stops Jim will probably go back outside and finished putting the new fence panels up.  He started just before the rain and he carried on until it got too heavy.  He`s going fishing in Guildford tomorrow so he wants to get finished tonight.  I`ll say goodbye now andgo and read the rest of my journals.  I hope you`re all having a lovely afternoon.  Take care and I`ll see you tomorrow.

I was lucky, already home by the time the downpour came here :o)  It's so much fresher now isn't it.
Lovely news about Daisy, I remember the change in Heidi - the young girl I knew - after her transplant, she looked to healthy without that yellow tinge, and still is I should add!

I'm so glad to here about Daisy, I hope she carries on getting better. I quite like hydrangeas but I think you need a very big garden for them as they're so big and showy. We've had none of the promised rain today, it's clouded over a lot and turned quite humid though. Jeannette xx

I will be praying for little Daisy.  How wonderful that she's had her surgery and that things are going well for her.  Praise God that he made our bodies so we can heal from such difficult circumstances.  Keep us posted on her recovery!  Your garden sounds so beautiful.  I hope you are able to talk Jim into the new climbing rose you want.  They are so pretty.  Enjoy the fresh air after your rain!  Happy planting!    Kathy

I've got a beautiful hydrangea, but I don't like them either. It was a present a few years ago from my neighbour, who loves them, but can't get them to grow on her side of the fence. Mine is in a large pot, would love to shove it over the fence but don't want to hurt my neighbour's feelings. It's a whacky world! Take care.
Love Sylvia xx
PS. Just in case you haven't heard, Jules is in hospital.

Glad you got your cooling rain. It's 100+ here again today. No sight of rain. Ugh. You're not really going dig up hydrangeas are you? Oh if I could get them to grow.  I can scarcely grow a weed!! Sorry about Danny's living situation.  Once they get their minds set on something.  It's good he's so independent.
Good to hear abt. Sally. Hope she has a complete and speedy recovery! Take care and enjoy the rest of your week.

We've had heavy rain on and off all day...cooled everything down.
I don't mind Hydrangeas, mine 'came with the house'...they turned a lovely colour as they faded...I dried them,  and made a lovely floral arrangement.
Good news about Daisy!

Even though Danny is taking the flat situation in his stride he must have some come back against that woman surely...Good news about daisy :o) Did you know that the colour of a hydrangea depends on the soil...If it's acidic they turn pink and if alkaline they turn blue...the white ones (only ones i like) the soil myst be neutral LOL  Caff xxxx

Well, I think you all needed that rain after your many days of heat.  It's been trying to rain here today but it doesn't seem to happen.  I set my hanging fuchsia out on the patio last night hoping the rain would throughly water it.  Well, today I went out and checked it and it was still dry as a bone.  So I watered with the hose and hung it back up.  Linda in WA

Lol at the hydrangeas.  Funny isn't it that after all our married years we can still find things out about each other. So it will be goodbye to your hydrangeas then.  I prefer things with a longer flowering period anyway.  Rotten luck about the flat, I think it was very unfair of that woman in the first place, but it takes all sorts.  Hope Danny gets sorted with something else really soon.
What wonderful news about little Daisy, God bless her.
We had thunder rumbling all day yesterday and one odd flash of lightning but no real rain, that came this morning.

We could sure use your rain here....things are so dry.  That was awful Danny's landlady did that to him, your right, she should have never leased out.  Danny will find something soon I am sure.  Great he is so independant.  What a brave little girl Daisy is...glad she is doing better.  Hope Jim's fishing trip goes well...have a good week...hugs and love,
Joyce
