Jake and Marshall

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the tail end of  Thursday.  It`s been another hot, sunny day though it`s very overcast and oppresive and I wouldn`t mind betting a storm is on it`s way.  I`ve just waterd the flowers so it`s bound to rain now I`ve been lugging a heavy watering can around the garden.  Today we took charge of Marshall the German Shepherd for a couple of days while his owners, good friends of ours, take their children for a long weekend at the New Forest.  He`s a really good-natured dog and he and Jake have grown up together but he seems to think Jake is a female with worrying consequences...lol!  Jim and I took them for a run late this afternoon armed with bottles of water to keep them refreshed, hoping that that the pair of them would sleep when we got home...hmmm, not a bit of it, they resumed `playing` again as soon as they got outside.  If anyone has any ideas, apart from keeping them separate, please let me know!

I was up even earlier this morning so I decided to tackle Tesco as soon as possible before the rest of the world decided to do theirs.  I was there just after 7.30am and I shopped in complete peace and quiet,  the only thing was that many of the shelves hadn`t been filled which isn`t very good for a shop that`s open 24 hours.  Later this morning I collected my winter duvet from the launderette, they have made an exellent job of it and it was certainly worth the money.  Jim had bought a bag for storing duvets in so I thought I`d give it a try.  You have to roll them up, place in this polythene bag, seal it, apart from a hole just big enough to put a vacuum cleaner hose in. Then you suck out all the air and the duvet is made 60% smaller and you can pack it neatly away.  Well that`s the theory, in fact I did all those things but it took ages and ages.  No way did it shrink down to 60% but it was smaller and easier to pack away, so I put in on top of the wardrobe in the spare bedroom where it immediately slid back down and hit me on the head!  Eventually I managed to get it to stay put but I`m thinking that next year I`ll just shove it in the bag and throw it in the back of the cupboard...lol!

I`ve had a text from Kerry saying that they`re having a great time, Roman won`t sit still and she can`t take her eyes off him for a moment...hehehe  that`s my boy!  She`s going to give us a ring in a couple of days.  Did I mention that Danny and his girlfriend are going on holiday in a few weeks to Egypt?  They`re staying in that place that Tony Blair always visits, well the same area you understand, I doubt if our revered PM would be staying in the same hotel as my lad....lol!  There have been terrorist bomb explosions in the area and I can`t say that I`m too happy about their choice of destination but it`s up to them of course.  I know I`ll feel a lot happy once they get home again.

Well that`s it from me today.  I`m up to date with journals so I think I`ll play some Bookworm, I got my second highest score the other day and I want to add to that.  I hope you all have a lovely evening, take care and Bye bye for now. :o)

Lol...Marshall & Jake sound just like Ollie and his "friend" Roxy!!  There's only 2 months between them and they leave an impressive trail of destruction behind them!!  Together they just don't calm down other that when they sleep :o)

Our Tesco is quite good for refilling shelves, but the best is Asda by a long shot! LOL at the quilt bag.....Rob got our summer one out of a small cardboard box, but the winter one has had to go in a bin liner, LOL!! Tee hee, Sam would be the same with another dog .....he just does not know when to stop playing!!!

Hi for the dogs what about the ball trick you stand in one place and throw it you don't have to run just keep throwing the ball till the dogs get tuckered out. Quilts have a will of their own am just going to change ours today wish me luck. Love Joan.

We used to have a rough collie dog who was 'interfered with' by a boxer dog at a hotel in Derby.  Granted poor Sheppy's (such was his unimaginative name) bits were not much on display because of his coat but this gay boxer wouldn't take no for an answer!

Asda is great at overnight shelf stacking.  They also have more electric scooters than our local Tesco (which is a big one) and the staff are nicer.

I don't know how much time you have to work with Marshall but you could try this:  Each time Marshall goes into the bad behavior with Jake, pull him away, stand directly in front of him and say no.  Have him sit.  Stand in front of him and hold him in the sitting position for at least a few mintues.  Not physically hold him but by voice command and by standing in front of him. If he gets up and tries to move around you, you move in front of him, say no and have him sit.  Repeat this until he sits for you for the few mintues.  He has to learn that you are boss in the home and that you will do this each time he does the behavior to Jake.  It should only take a few times because he isn't used to you giving him orders.  I use this with my dog when she gets aggressive with my sister's dog.  I usually only have to do it once and she leaves Grace alone. You must be consistant.  It won't work if you're not.  If you leave, separate them so he won't do it while you are gone. Good luck.
