Hello everyone,
What a lovely day it is here, very hot but you won`t hear me complaining. Kerry and Roman arrived safely in St.Petersburg yesterday afternoon. They are 3 hours ahead of us in Russia so it would have made it 5pm their time. She rang last night and told me all about the flight, she said they were treated very well by the cabin crew who all made a big fuss of Roman. He loved all the attention and smiled at everyone, even other passengers who didn`t seem to mind having a baby in their midst. Kerry was quite surprised because he can be a little shy but not on this occasion. Apparently he was as good as gold and after being strapped into the next seat during flight he was happy to play with his toys while Kerry read a magazine. When Slava met them Roman gave him a great big smile and wasn`t shy with him at all. The only time he got upset was when they got back to his grandparents` flat, but then he was very tired and after a short sleep he was back to his happy little self. I must say I was relieved that Kerry had such a trouble-free flight and that Roman wasn`t distressed by it all. I DO miss them , of course but I`m glad for Nadia and Ivan that they are seeing their beloved grandson once again. I can only guess at how sad they will feel when Kerry comes home again. Not only do they miss seeing Roman grow up but they don`t see their son either, that must be unbearably hard on them and I am so grateful that its not me and Jim who miss out, we are very lucky. I forgot to ask Kerry how the weather was out there. Their Summers are much the same as here in England, though it can be much hotter and more settled, I`ll have a look online later to check out the forecast.
Later yesterday morning Jim and I went to Uxbridge to have a look around, it`s such a pleasant town with a piaza area through the High St where there are lots of trees and with wooden benches so you can sit in the shade. Also there are lots of nice pavement cafes where you can drink coffee and eat lunch and watch the world go by. We always go to a little place called BB`s where they make wonderful coffee, the best I`ve tasted and the nicest lunches too, we wanted to sit outside but all the tables were taken so we sat by the window instead. While we were out a saw a pair of wedge heeled shoes that I really liked and Jim said he`d buy them for me, wasn`t that sweet of him? They are really nice, dark brown and very strappy. Once I get back to work I`m going to treat him for being so good to me. I bought a toy mobile phone for Roman from a charity shop and a paddling pool for the garden. That was a reall bargain because it was half price because of the cold, wet start to Summer they haven`t be selling well and now the weather`s changed the shops are trying to get rid of their Summer stock. We returned home really tired since we`d been up since 5am and it was nice to sit outside for a while to cool down and relax.
This morning I visited a jobs exhibition at the nearby sports centre. It was advertised as being for people of all ages, from school leavers to older people trying to get back in the workplace...hmmm, you could have fooled me! The place was full of stands advertising jobs for young people and the only stand that did advertise for older people wanted my money for a selling scheme. The man running it wanted my email address but I didn`t give it to him, I didn`t like the sound of it at all. I came home feeling even more fed-up with the situation than before. There must be a vacancy for an unqualified ageing female somewhere out there...lol!
Because the weather is so nice I`ve been doing the washing and getting in dry in no time at all. The only downside to this is that in Summer you tend to change your clothes more often creating a lot more ironing. I always do mine on a Sunday morning and the ironing basket is full up already...sigh. Jim has gone to see his Mum this afternoon, and then he`ll pop in to his sisters on the way home. I`d go with him but he likes to go straight from work because he`s already half way there and it doesn`t make sense to come and collect me and go back again. I forgot to say, last week I bought myself some red nail varnish as I`ve never worn it before and I`ve always wanted to try it out. I bought it cheap from a stall in our local shopping centre, big mistake, cheap is not always good. It looked nice when I appiled it at the weekend but it was looking a bit tatty today so I took it off with varnish remover. At least I tried to, my toenails are stained a bright pink colour and no amount of remover made any difference. Now afrer much scraping with an orange stick it`s fainter but I`ll have to apply a colour to hide the pinkness, it looks as though someone`s trodden on my feet...lol! I`m going to say Goodbye now and go and read some journals. I hope you all have a lovely day, take care now. :o)

I'm so glad Kerry and Roman got to Russia safely, bless Roman for being so good too! Jobs are really hard to come by when you get older, I hope you find something soon! I've bought that cheap red nail varnish too! It's always best to put on a base coat to stop it staining your nails.....now I tell you!! Have a lovely day in the sun! Jeannette xx
I agree with Jeannette, put a clear base coat underneath and it won't stain; cheap or not, all red nail varnishes stain!!!

Happy to hear that Kerry and Roman had a safe flight. Yes, I can understand how sad it must be for the other grandparents not having their son and grandbaby close by. I can't even imagine. My grandkids are about 2 miles from me and have always been here in the same town as I am. And I'm happy my son is engaged to a local girl so there's now threat of them moving away, as her mom and sisters are here also. Linda in WA
I had so much fun catching up on your last 3 entries. I love the pictures of Roman, your daughter and you. That little boy is SO cute! I just want to munch on those cheeks!!! I can understand why you are feeling a little blue about his being away for 10 days. I hate to admit it, but I did laugh at Jake's bad behavior. I thought, "Of course he'd pull out the one plant that was recovering and doing well." I'm glad his leg is better. Keep busy and the 10 days will fly by! Love, Kathy
Im so sorry the job situation isnt going so smoothly for you! It really is a shame. Very good news that Roman was such a breeze on the flight! Great news!!

Sorry you have pink toes I used to get that on my fingers until I started using a base coat or a strengthener. Glad Kerry and Roman has such a good trip and are settled in OK. Love Joan.
So glad that Kerry and Roman made it there safely with no stress!! Iknow the relatives must be thrilled to see him and Kerry too. It also sounds like you are already finding lots to do. Good luck with your job hunt.

I'm glad Kerry and Roman's flight went well :-)
Glad Kerry and Roman had a safe and easy flight. I prayed for them and God saw them through! That would have scared me too to have luggage, a baby, and all the bags that go with baby and then on the flight it could have been bad if he was unhappy. So glad it all worked out.
I know you will miss them terribly until they are home.
Trying to catch up...weekends are usually when I can read and comment.
