A Very Sunny Friday

Hello everyone,

I hope you`re all having a good day.  It`s been nice and sunny though still very cold, not that I mind about the cold when the sun shines.  Kerry and I went into town this morning after collecting her car from the mechanic.  He has really done a great job on it and he showed Kerry the work he had done and gave her lots of tips about her model of car. You don`t get that everywhere you go and I`ll bear him in mind myself if I need major work done on my car.  While we were in town we were chatting about how the town has changed in the last couple of years.  It`s really going downhill now since the new Tesco Extra has opened and taken a lot of business from the High St.  So many smaller businesses can`t compete with these huge supermarket chains and they either are forced to close of move to cheaper premises in another town.  I`ve heard recently that a giant Sainsbury is being built nearby too...hmm, that should just about finish the town off completely.

Thanks for your comments about your own sons childhood accidents, I must say that it`s nice to know that I wasn`t alone in having a walking disaster for a son!  Actually, in answer to one question, yes, I`m afraid he is still very much the same now.  He`s had so many car accidents, not all his fault I hasten to add, that I`m quite relieved that he`s not got a car at the moment.  A couple of years ago whilst attempting to help Jim chop down some conifer trees he managed to hit his own hand with a machete!  He had a nasty cut but thankfully it wasn`t serious...he does worry me though.  He`s moving into his new flat today and tomorrow so I just hope that he`s careful carrying everything though I`m sure Jim and Slava will keep an eye on him...lol!

I`m off now but before I go, do have a lovely weekend and I hope the weather is good to you and especially for Joan (StrannyDayze) whose daughter is getting married tomorrow.  The forecast is good so fingers crossed it will be sunny for them.  Bye Bye for now.

The Darwin Awards

Several burglars pushed their luck to the brink of failure when they tried to pull off a heist of a building containing a large volume of fireworks. They used a gas cutting torch to slice through the main door. The door was eight feet tall, concrete, and reinforced with a solid inch of steel. Just as the torch penetrated the door, and success was at hand... a spark landed in a crate of fireworks inside.

Fireworks are explosive, and this particular crate contained the equivalent of a hundred pounds of gunpowder. The entire factory exploded. The door was popped from its hinges and slammed flat into the ground. The roof lifted off and landed in one piece. Interestingly, despite the violence of the explosion, the debris was confined within the factory perimeter.

Astoundingly, the perpetrators were not killed, and have never been found. Their cutting equipment remained behind, along with the car, which had been flattened by the concrete roof. Flabbergasted pyrotechnics professionals have dubbed them the "Hole in the Ground Gang."

Know what you mean Sandra, our village has been ruined over the years.  These huge supermarkets are a blight!  Heard the other day that Tesco is planning to build many more.
Lol at yesterday's entry.  Reminds me of Becky when she was young.  People hardly ever saw her without a plaster or a bandage!!!!  Still you can laugh about it all now.  Great entries from you as always xxxxxx

Thankyou Sandra!! The weather is gorgeous here as well, and I have every faith that it will be the same tomorrow!!! Angela is so relaxed at the moment, I left her at Samanthas having a pedicure and manicure......I've got to make do with a bowl of lemon balm water and do my own nails, LOL!!!

It seems corporate giants are moving in everywhere.  A nearby community just lost their battle to stop a Wal-Mart Superstore from being built.  Here, many small mom & pop businesses are folding, unable to compete with national chains, and the convenience of the internet.  Me, I do my best to keep local jobs...I refuse to use Net Flix and I don't care how convenient it is my priority is keeping local people working so I will patronize a local store.  They say change is good, but sometimes I wonder.

Have a wonderful weekend Sandra.  Sorry I don't always have time to comment when I stop in to read your journal.  :(

Hello Sandra, your mention of your son's car accident reminded me of my son's motorcycle accident.  He was on his Honda, going down a neighborhood street, cars parked on both sides..he saw this car coming towards him...the lady driving was looking over at houses, like she was looking for a specific one.  She didn't see him, fortunately he saw her and slowed way down but there was no where for him to go..(cars parked along the side of this street) she hit him head on and he flew off his motorcycle went over a parked car and landed on someone's grass.  Just a sprained ankle that was all...God was with him.  The lady was very upset, I actually felt sorry for her.  He also had a Corvette for awhile & I was afraid that would be the end of him but it got stolen twice & he got many speeding tickets that he finally sold it & the motorcycle.  Linda in Washington state

Tesco has had the same impact here Sandra. . .all our little shops are closing down fast, petrol stations too,the chemist, newsagents as they just cannot compete with the huge supermarkets. The high streets are mostly charity shops now .I dont think town planners realise the hardhship it causes to small retailers.Love your ghost stories. And your graphics

It's been snowing here in Brighton nearly all day but it hasn't laid. Some kids just seem more accident prone than others, I remember when my son was two years old he was looking in a toy shop window, the window ledge was mouth high to him. He sneezed; his head shot down and he split his forehead open right across. He had to have it sewn up and looked like Frankenstein's monster for a week after!! I hope the weather's nice for Joan and her family tomorrow, as long as the sun shines she'll get good photos. Jeannette xxxx

It is so sad when big companies move in and take over the small family ownder businesses!  Where I live it is all chains. Nothing authentic or unique and it is sad.

I can see why people go to these big companies to buy their products but surely you can't beat the sales service you get from a smaller shop!!  Hope your son moved in ok :)
