The River Thames and Windsor Castle

Hello everyone,

I hope you`re all having the weather that we`re having here.  It`s been a glorious day, so sunny despite a cool wind that has been great for getting the washing dry.

Yesterday Kerry and I had a lovely afternoon in Windsor, it had been raining on and off during the morning and it was very overcast in the early afternoon.  Despite this we went ahead with our visit, me with my camera at the ready like any self-respecting tourist!   Kerry got fed-up with me stopping for a photo opportunity every five minutes and walked ahead pretending she didn`t know me...lol!  First of all we walked along the path beside the River Thames.  The river is very high at the moment, a bit strange considering that we have a hosepipe ban in place here in the Thames Valley, apparently we have a water shortage...hmm, I suppose the authorities haven`t seen the river lately.

There were hundreds of swans and ducks on the river.  I always think that the mute swans are larger than the ones you see on lakes etc.  The single swan in the photo came up to my eye level as we walked passed him and there were bigger ones than him there.  One woman decided to feed the swans and ducks but didn`t bargain on them getting out of the water and crowding round her for the bread she had.  Kerry and I watched as they started to peck at her, we quickly went back the way we came and thencarried Roman`s pram up some steep steps, better to be safe than sorry.  The woman escaped unhurt but probably a little wiser.

We then walked to the High St where we found a British Heart Foundation charity shop.  I bought a book for just £2 and I told them I bring all my old paperbacks in for them, the lady told me that they do a brisk trade with them quickly disappearing off of the shelves.  They had lots of books I liked the look of but I`m in the middle of a book now and have another three to read afterwards.  I`ve decided the only ones I`ll keep are my favourites that are read over again.  I know where I`ll go for my next book at that price.

Eventually we went to Windsor Royal Station to find a coffee shop and we settled for Cafe Nero where they have high chairs for babies.  Roman sat there and drank his milk and munched on a biscuit while we enjoyed a cappuchino each, by which time we were really tired and decided to go home.  We had a really nice afternoon and were happy to leave Windsor to the many tourists that were there.  I didn`t realise that I had taken quite so many photos but I do hope you like them. I have to go now as Roman will be here in half an hour and there are a few things I have to do first.  Have a really great day, Bye Bye for now. :o)

Glad you enjoyed your Day at Windsor...do you live quite close?
Enjoyed the 'Photos... I remember those views. When my American Penfriend came over for the first time, we stayed at the 'Oakley Court Hotel' on the Banks of the Thames, and we went into Windsor and Eton.

I so looked forward to seeing the promised photos of Windsor Castle and, for who knows what reason, they are not showing up on my screen today--just white space where the pic should be.  Why is this AOL software so tempermental?  We pay premium prices and should have a premium, trouble-free product.

I used to patronize a used bookstore where they took trade-ins, believe it or not!  They kept track of the books you brought in and gave you credit against your next purchase--sometimes it added up to a free book, sometimes just a percentage off.
Unfortunately, they moved to another suburb and I no longer have access.

Your weather sounds glorious.  Enjoy!

I enjoyed the photos of Windsor Castle and of Kerry and Roman.   I did not know that swan were that tall, but I guess their long necks can stretch.    mark
