Hello everyone, Happy Monday to you all. I hope you`ve all had a great weekend. I know quite a lot of you have by reading your journals. Now I`m sitting here thinking of something interesting to say. I do have to mention that the best entry I`ve read today is my friend Jeannette`s. Go and have a read, if you haven`t already, it is compelling reading.
We will now have to find another place for Jake to have his daily run. The back field, as I`ve mentioned before is being sold to developers for housing. Now we find that the council is trying to sell part of Upton Park for the same reason. That is the place where I have photographed Windsor Castle in the distance. The other houses that back on to the proposed development are furious at the suggestion. .Sadly, this council will not be satisfied until all our beautiful open spaces are covered by tarmac, or bricks and mortar.
Also Upton Park is now the illegal home to gypsies who moved in last weekend. It is now not really safe to go there. The last time we walked there we were harassed by a couple of young lads who kept on riding their motorbikes directly at us then turning away at the last moment. So that was that...we`ll stay away for now.
Jim is fishing again today. Lake fishing at Royal Berks. He took me over there last week just to show me round. It`s a very pretty place that is home to lots of water birds. I gave him the camera with instructions to take lot`s of pictures for my journal. As it`s been a sunny day I`m hoping he`ll get some nice ones. I hope also he catches lots of big fish , not that we can eat them, but he always tries to land the bigger fish these days. I remember in his early days of fishing he was happy to catch anything.
Now Jim has put the new lawn turf down it has become my job to keep it watered. He is so worried that it won`t grow if it gets dry, At the moment I`m watering it twice daily. I have a large water-butt in the garden that is rapidly running out of water now. Where we are re-shaping our garden Jim has made some space for a couple of shrubs. I want shrubs that flower and do well in full sun....so if you have any suggestions , leave it in the comments section :-) I was looking at other people`s garden today while out with Jake. Some of them are wonderful, with well manicured lawns and beautiful flowers and shrubs, while others don`t really seem to care one way or another, leaving their gardens to nature, not cutting the grass and letting the weeds grow wild. I`ve lived here for many years and have seen people move away from their homes for whatever reason, and leave their beautiful gardens in the hands of the " couldn`t care lesses" of this world. Perhaps things like this shoudn`t really matter, but they do to me...I just hate neglected gardens.
That`s my moan of the day! With that I`ll leave you with some funny quotes that I found. Bye for now and have a lovely day :-)

No point in telling you what grows well here as weather is so different and soil probably.
Sorry you can't take Jake where you want to go.
Yes it seems we must cover all of our views here in America---only with aluminum siding instead.
Firstly Sandra, thank you for the mention, it was very sweet of you. Secondly, I despair at all the construction that is going on everywhere. We are such a small Island and, at this rate, we will have no green spaces left. We have very little here now compared to what we used to. As for plants, go to Crocus the site I told you about. You do not have to buy from them but they give suggestions as to what to grow on soil types, what to grow in dry conditions. The rock rose is a very good one and comes in a beautiful variety of colours. xxxxxx
Sounds like your having a good day - I hope Jim has had one too...can't wait to see the photos :-) Great pic by the way!
Mad looking cat LOL. It's too bad Jake is going to loose his exercise place. I suppose as the world gets more people in it there will be less space for all. I wouldn't know what kind of shubbery to suggest you getting. Still looking for a picture of Jim's new walk he just finished building. Good luck to him on his fishing trip and I know the feeling about not being able to eat fish but I also love to fish. There is always someone out there who would love to have a mess to eat. Hope he gets some good pictures for you to share with us. Helen
I have missed you so much.....what is a water butt? I hope Jim gets lots of fish today. We drove thru Georgia and Kentucky on the way home and i saw more open beautiful fields with trees and greenery than i have ever seen. It makes a person sick to see things destroyed and all for money. Love, lisa
Ooh, you wouldn't like my garden then!!
It is 100 times better than it was when we moved in though, there's hope for it yet ;o) Sorry you're losing your field. That's happening around here too. On the way to J's school there's a huge great field that some of the parents have been petitioning over because they're building houses there. The hospital hasn't enough beds, and the school doesn't have enough places for the people already here!!

Your new turf does need some good rain - but once again we seem to heading for drought! What a shame you're finding fewer places to take Jake for his constitutionals. Soon the whole country will just be one big city with nothing green left anywhere - except when the traffic lights go green!
David.
Hello again....Thanks for all of your lovely comments to my journal. I have also read Jeannette's Jottings I think that her journal is quite wonderful just as yours is. I find that I have liked coming to read your journal very much. I hope that you continue writing....Take care.

Just read Sara's comment about the hospital not being able to cope. It's a nightmare down there and I am facing very major surgery in that place at some point. The staff are wonderful but the system can't cope. The expansion of Milton Keynes is getting out of control.

First, I love the kitty graphic...so cute..even though the expression speaks volumes! I too love Jeannettes entries also....so full of interesting past stories. Wow, gypsies! Have not heard of them in ages. Watering everything here too...hot and dry! Water or the grass will die or the flowers go with the grass.
