Oh Dear, Not Again!

Oh dear, I`m in the wars again.  Yesterday I almost poked my eye out on a cane in the greenhouse. I was leaning over watering the tomatoes and that was it, the cane collided with my left eye socket preventing it from going right into the eye itself. My goodness it DID hurt too. My eye is really bruised and bloodshot (see above graphic for the general idea...lol!) and I`ve got the start of a bruise on the side of my nose and is a small cut just below my eye....I do look a fright I can tell you. It`s very painful but it has taught me to be a bit more careful. First thing this morning when I got to work I bought a couple of packets of cane eye guards, a bit late perhaps but at least if I do it again I won`t do myself any damage.....and knowing me I WILL do it again!

Jim has been out all day fishing in Theale,  the next village to where Kerry lives. He rang me just 30 mins ago to say that he hasn`t caught a thing all day and will be home soon. He has had an enjoyable day though.............somehow I can`t imagine how you can enjoy a days fishing and catch nothing, oh well I`ll never understand this fishing lark...lol!

The weather has been nice the last few days though according to AOL weather it`s going to be wet until the weekend. The BBC site however, says that it will stay fine all week. I think I`ll wait and see what tomorrow brings and see for myself. I need more sun to bring all my flowers into bloom, at the moment the garden is looking a bit dull. The hanging baskets and wall mangers are doing really well but I want the whole garden to look good now. Also I can now sit outside on my new sun lounger chair that I bought in Wilkinson`s for £30. We have the same one on sale at work for £69.99...exactly the same make and style too. Wilko`s had an offer that was 2 for £50, £20 less than the one at work. I think I did rather well spotting that one because I nearly bought the one at work using my discount though it would still have cost me over £40!

Anyway, my eye is getting rather sore as I`ve been online for a while now so I`ll say goodbye for now. Take care.

Oh Dear  sounds painful. On Gardeners World the allotment man said to put empty plastic bottles on the canes to stop you doing just what you have done. Hope you dont get too much of a shiner! Louise   xx

Oh dear Sandra that sounds really painful ,I remember (when I was at work ,) a resident who was a keen gardener ,in fact she had a lovely garden ,saved all the containers that her denture cleaner tablets came in to put onto the top of her canes ,..Maurice went fishing the other week and didnt catch a thing ,his mate said he thought it had a lot to do with him falling asleep on and off all day lol ...love Jan xx

Oh Sandra, sounds like that was a close call.  I've done the same thing here at home however.  We have to watch out for those stakes sticking up out of the ground.  Maybe you should wear safety glass when you are working down in the plants like that.  Men & their fishing.  I've heard that a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. I guess that's the way it is for a true blue fisherman.   Linda in WA

Poor you! can sympathise as it happened to me years ago. But I fell on the Rockery, and a branch 'came in contact' with my eye. It bled, and was very frightening. The hospital removed several pieces of bark, and that eye always bothers me, when I'm tired. I now have this condition in my eyes, not related at all, but similar feeling.
Had a hospital visit today, and everything is stable....
I tidied my hut on Sunday, and threw several cane guards out!
The Garden is a place for 'minor accidents'...Be careful!

And they say lightning never strikes twice....!  Hope your eye gets better soon.
I think the forecst that said rain the rest of the week was about right.  That's what it's doing here and it looks well set in.

I've had pokes in the eye before, it's very painful. At least you've done no lasting damage. Wear the eye guard next time! It's very blustery here today, I want my summer back! I've never seen any delights in fishing all day, I'd get too bored just sitting in one place! Jeannette xx

Sandra I do hope your eye is feeling and looking a lot better soon ~ those eye protectors sound like a good idea ~ You have to be a fisherman to appreciate a day without catching anything ~ it's just the joy of being out in the Countryside and watching the wildlife :o)  ~ that was a bargain on your Sun Lounger you must have felt very pleased spotting it ~ Ally x

Ouch!  You were lucky though Sandra, could have been much worse and people have been blinded by garden canes.  I did the same thing as you quite a few years back, now I never use canes unless I have to and always make sure they have a guard.  Lol at Jim, I could not sit there all day for no reward at the end.  As for the weather, we have already had rain here today, it is very windy and very dark clouds.  Poor old garden, like you lots of my plants are not doing well this year.

OUCHIE!  You are so lucky that you didn't damage your eye.  That was too close for comfort!  I'm sorry you are bruised and hope that it will heal very quickly.  You don't want your neighbors thinking that Jim gave you a shiner!  LOL

Ouch Sandra!!!!!!  I think you should go out in a protective bubble from now on before you do yourself some serious damage.  Why do the weather sites differ from each other!!!  I tend to look at the Met Office's site lol..........Wilkinson's is a great shop :o)

Hello~
I hope your eye is better. I"m so sorry that happened :(
It would be so awesome if we had the temperatures that you all have..LOL. Las Vegas has been over a 105' everyday for well over 2 weeks now. UGH! And they are predicting the temps to only continue to rise. But hey, that's how it is here in the summer and I just hate it here. I can't wait for the oppurtunity to move. This IS my very last summer in this awful city..LOL

Take good care!
Huggers,
Gayla
