Somethin` Fishy in the Kitchen......

I hope you`re all enjoying the weekend. It seems to have gone really quickly and we are faced with another Monday already...sigh. We have stocktaking this week.....Oh what fun that will be (she says with heavy sarcasm...lol!).

This morning I solved a mystery and one that`s been bothering me for a few days. On Friday evening I noticed a funny smell in the kitchen. Following my nose I traced it to an area in one corner but could find nothing at all and put it down to imagination. On Saturday morning while I was making a cup of tea I noticed it again. Even after my usual clean of the worktops it still lingered. This morning however it was really strong and I asked Jim had he noticed it. He had but had failed to tell me, then he said it might be the microwave oven as he`d cooked some mackeral for his lunch on Thursday and forgot to clean it up.  THURSDAY?   FISH?  No wonder there was a bad smell!  I opened the microwave and the smell hit me like a ton of bricks. I can`t describe how awful it was. Suffice it to say I opened the kitchen door immediately and attempted to clean the oven whilst trying not to breathe. Jim decided this was a good time to take Jake for a walk and left me to clear up HIS mess on my own! Well I cleaned and cleaned but the smell hasn`t shifted. In the end I picked up the oven and put it in the garden. It`s very old and doesn`t work well anyway. Guess who will be buying a new one but doesn`t know it yet?  ....lol!

Danny came round for dinner this afternoon. I gave him sirloin steak, mushrooms and roast potatoes which he enjoyed. The least I can do is make sure he eats well even though he doesn`t live here anymore.

Jim is going to call the garage again tomorrow morning and hopefully he`ll actually get to speak to someone. My car seats are almost dry and the sunroof is covered over so it won`t get wet again if it rains. I`ll be covering it up while I`m at work too, I`m taking no chances until its repaired. I know it`s not too serious a problem and shouldn`t cost much to fix but that`s not the point. Anyway it leaked when I bought it so either they knew about it or the previous owner `forgot` to tell them.

That`s about all my news for today. I just had to tell you about the smelly fish story. Bye for now and take care. :o)

Oh just like a man.  I always put a paper towel over everything I cook in the microwave.  That would help...and after cooking something like fish, maybe leaving the door open AFTER WIPING IT OUT.  Such a guy. LOL   Can't wait to see the pictures of your brand new microwave!   Linda in rainy, gloomy Washington state

Good Grief my mystery is solved at last,I have been smelling Fish all day here too tell Jim LOL!!

I know of a fellow called Jim.
Who's chances are pretty slim.
Of his bank account.
Building up an amount.
Cos Sandra is going to shock him.

He forgot to clean up one day.
When he closed up the microwave.
The thing started smelling.
And there was no telling.
Sandra this micro to save.

Sandra's decided right now.
Jim is buying a new one somehow.
It's now in the garden.
She's not accepting Jim's pardon.
And Jake even agreed and bow wowed. LOL!!

Have a good evening.Take care God Bless Kath

The smell of fish is sooooooo awful. I make a dish with smoked haddock but only in the summer when I can make it with the back door open even then I have to have my wax burners lit.  Have a good stocktake. Love Joan.

Worst smell I can recall, happened in my sitting room. It was awful!! Day after day I tried to find the source, with no luck, except it was getting worse!! Needless to say, visitors were hurriedly shepherded into the kitchen for a cuppa lol. Around 4 weeks later, and a fortune spent on deodorisers, it disappeared. All was revealed a year later, when the floorboards were taken up to install the central heating system. One dried up, shrunken, very dead, field mouse!
Keep laughing.
Love Sylvia xx

Sorry to hear about your sunroof hon! I hope the people who sold you the car agree to fix it for you. I can imagine what a disaster that must of been with all the rain you've been getting. I do the same thing when Skye stops by with her boyfriend, I end up cooking a huge meal. It must be a mother thing, continuing to worry over how they are eating even when they no longer live at home. Jim and Doc are both alike. Doc is constantly leaving things for me to clean up after him. I recently had the same problem in my own kitchen. Mine turned out to be molting onions in a basket I had on a bottom shelf in the pantry. Ugh!!! Talk about smell. I've since tossed the basket that was a total loss. Mine was small compared to yours, sounds like Jim is getting a new microwave. (Hugs) Indigo

You are SO lucky that your microwave oven wasn't built in.  You could just carry it outside and leave it!  I hope you get a very nice replacement for the stinky one.  I have to hand it to you.  I would have gagged and cried if I had to clean up that mess.  Seriously.  I cannot deal with fish smell at all.
Hugs, Kathy
