Hello everyone,
It`s been a bit brighter today after a couple of days of heavy downpours. Mind you, it`s rather dark outside now and the skies are very threatening. I do hope it doesn`t rain as much as yesterday. I`ll explain.
When I got into my car after work yesterday it was to find my seat wet and water coming through the roof. The sunroof is leaking after all. Making a mental note to call the Renault garage Saturday morning I drove home with water dripping on my head. I was not a happy bunny I can tell you. In the afternoon I went out with Kerry and as it had stopped raining but no more water was dripping through. So, last evening in my wisdom I used a windscreen sun cover to deflect any rain from the sunroof by covering the roof and fixing the sides of the cover by tucking them inside the doors. Brilliant idea in theory, in fact it was a disaster. When I checked it this morning it had stopped the rain from coming through the sunroof seal but instead it had come through the doors, soaking not one but both of the passenger seats. I was mortified and have been trying to dry it out all day. Now in preparation for the rain that will soon fall I have used the same cover but have attached it to the bottom on the car instead of inside it. Hopefully it will do the job until I can get it repaired. Jim did call the garage this morning and left a message to the salesman who sold it to me. He was assured he would call back and we`re still waiting five hours later! I suppose they don`t want to know know that I`ve paid my money but they haven`t heard the last of me yet. If we get nowhere with them we have a good friend who used to work for a company who fitted sunroofs and windscreens. Jim thinks he will give us advice about getting it fixed or even do it for us. One way or another it will be fixed soon.
I had the results of my blood tests Thursday and they were all clear. I`m particularly pleased that the ones for diabetes and cholesterol were negative, and as for the others will I`m just happy that all`s well. Now I have a clean bill of health now I can concentrate of the mysterious lumps I keep getting. The dermatologist isn`t too worried but wants to keep and eye on things for the time being. I must add that there`s nothing sinister going on just a bit of a nuisance.
Jim is doing well researching his family tree and has unearthed some skeletons in the proverbial cupboard. He has discovered marriages that weren`t marriages and all, children born out of wedlock when these things were definitely frowned upon. He was also surprised that many women were unable to read and write but the men were. I suppose it was all about educating the boys but the girls didn`t really matter. While looking for a long-lost uncle he has found cousins that he and his other family didn`t know existed though only one has shown the very faintest of interest. If that were me and I was contacted by a very distant relation I`d love it. One of the cousins J told Jim his Uncle died in 1967. Uncle F was born 1903 and was 18yrs older than Jim`s mum. It`s a complicated story but there would have been quite a scandal at the time.
Right, I`m going to cook myself something for my tea and empty the tumble dryer. Then I`m going to read ALL my journals. Take care and have a lovely evening. :o)

Sorry to hear of the problems with the sunroof, Sandra. Genealogy can indeed unearth some eye-brow raising stories, I know...
Leaks of any kind in a new car is NOT a good thing! God forbid, you drive it thru a car wash...you'd probably drown. I hope they can get it fixed for you and meanwhile they should give you a "loaner" car to drive while they are working to correct the defects. I've done a lot of genealogy and find it fascinating. I have a computer program called "Family Tree Maker" to enter the information. A little over a year ago, Ally & I discovered I was distantly related to her grandson. How about that? We are set for a wet weekend, too. I have more information about the pink tinged daffodils...will post in my journal later. Linda in Washington state http://journals.aol.com/lsfp1960/LindasWorld/
It wasn't uncommon in late 19th and early 20th centuries for 'excess' children to be farmed out among other relations. For example if someone who already had 6 kids found herself expecting again, then auntie so-and-so would bring it up as her own. This method was also used of course for covering up the odd scandal too. It all made hard work of it for us family tree hunters! I found out that my paternal g/grandfather never actually married but had several children - one of them I suspect by his sister - and all farmed out. They were naughtier then than they are now!!
Oh dear Sandra it never rains without it pours does it now.I do hope you can get it fixed by the garage you bought it from. The brilliant idea you came up with is the sort of thing that would have happened to me too.Grrrrr I have had many suprizes from Genes Re-United Sandra and some dissapointments too regarding relations.Have a good week/end Take Care God Bless Kath

I hope you can get that roof taken care of soon. Families can do some weird things and try to hide it. Helen
I do hope the leaking roof is fixed soon...now comng through the door is just not right...they should fix it and then somehow test it, before giving it back to you. Sounds like Jim is really getting into the family tree. We had many a family member do one on both sides of our family to find some interesting facts. Enjoy your evening and your tea...happy reading...hugs and love,
Joyce

So sad about your car, hope you can get it fixed once and for all. Our rain is starting tonight, who knows when it will stop. Joni
oh i just LOVE the story of Jim's family.....old time scandals, esp family, are always interesting! On my dad's side, about 150 yrs ago, all the men were moonshiners and complete drunks who lived on a mountain kind of in a commune.....how interesting.
I am totally mad that your pretty new car is putting you thru this..give them hell Sandra! I am glad your tests came back in a positive light!!!!!!!
love,lisa

It is so interesting to dig into the past! One of my husband's distant cousins and her brother have traced his family back to the 1600's. It's amazing all the information they have found out!
So sorry about the leaky car roof. Soggy seats are NO fun to sit on!
Hugs, Kathy
