Hello my friends,
I hope you`ve been having an enjoyable weekend so far. I for one have had a particulary nice couple of days though I have to work on the Bank Holiday tomorrow. Yesterday was hot and sunny, just as you`d hope an August day to be and in the afternoon Jim and I went car hunting. I was only looking and wouldn`t have been too bothered had I not found anything suitable...but not only did I find something but I found the perfect car for me and I collect it on Friday afternoon after work. It`s another Renault Clio but much newer with more creature comforts than the old one. When I took it for a test drive I fell in love with it and decided there and then it had to be mine. After some hard bargaining I got a very good part-exchange price deal on my old car, good job too or there would have been no deal, so I signed on the dotted line. I can`t wait to collect it so I can spend all afternoon driving it around, it`s just like a new toy for me.
Afterwards Jim suggested we go to a nice little pub not far from here for a celebratory drink. We went to the Red Lion and sat outside in the shade of the ancient oak that dominates it`s front garden. I say we had a drink buy although Jim had a pint I only drank cranberry juice, because I was driving and because ice cold cranberry is very refreshing on a hot day. It was nice because we managed to spend some quality time together, something that we get precious little of these days and it made such a difference.
Today I did a huge pile of ironing before Jim came home from work, had lunch and then went out together with Jake to Black Park. Again because the weather was so nice I took the camera and took photos of whatever took my fancy at the time. Jake had a great time swimming in the lake and at one point he even tried to outrun a young greyhound.....silly boy, he had no chance and almost wore himself out trying...lol! At the cafe there Jim bought us an icecream each, I had coffee flavour and Jim had choc chip...it was scrummy.
When we got home we found Slava and Roman waiting for us in the back garden. Roman came running up to me with a big smile on his face when he saw me...he melts my heart when he does that...bless him. For those of you who don`t know, Jeannette`s young grandson isn`t very well and is in hospital. It would be lovely if you would pop in to her journal and and leave a message of support, I know she`d really appreciate it.
I forgot to say that Jim spent Saturday morning in the garden mowing our extremely jungle-like lawn. It had become so long after all the rain we`ve had and it`s been far to wet to cut it. We were begininning to wonder what was lurking in the undergrowth...lol! My summer bedding flowers are all but finished, especiallt the petunias that haven`t enjoyed the wet weather. One of the magnolias however is in flower for the second time this year and the hellebores that flower in winter are also flowering now, as is one of the roses that should have finished in July. I just hope the magnolia will get back in sync and flower properly in the Spring.
Our roof is finished and the roofers have done an excellent job. A friend of ours was surprised at what it cost too, which apparently was very reasonable. I`d have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who needs any work done. The only downside is the mess in our loft and that`s after they cleared up too. Mind you a bit of mess didn`t hurt anyone, especially Jim who has to do it...lol!. There`s no way I will ever go up there until we have floorboards laid, with my luck my foot would go straight through the ceiling!
Anyway, my friends that`s all for now. I`ll be reading journals until 9pm when I`m going to watch the new series stariing Martin Clunes. Bye for now and have a lovely Bank Holiday...even though I have to work...lol! ;o))))

Hello Sandra, It was lovely to see the photos; by the way, think the second plant you asked about may be a teasel, it's got teasel heads but not much foliage so I'm not sure. They are really nice pictures of Jake but none of him shaking himself all over you, lol!! Good news about gettting a bargain with your new car, I bet you can't wait for Friday now! I have visited Jeannette's site already, what a worrying time for them all, let's hope Daniel soon gets better. Love, Pat http://journals.aol.co.uk/pm71blackfen/ramblings-from-pat/
The mirror is lovely, well done finding your new car,it sounds great ,....and your roof is finished ,the berries are poisonous ,and the second one looks like teazels, concerned about little Daniel as Im sure you are ..love Jan xx
Lovely photos Sandra, glad you enjoyed your time out. The car sounds nice and I bet you cannot wait to get your hands on it. Like you my summer bedding is getting beyond saving, geraniums and much summer bedding hate the wet weather and not only that but we had low light levels and it was cold as well. I do not think the last two days of sunshine will do anything to revive it but then we are not far away from September and that is Autumn. This year has galloped past. Thank you so much for mentioning Daniel. There is no further news at the moment. Dean just picked Nathan up at 9 p.m. So we had a tiring but very enjoyable day. Nathan is wonderful at paint on the computer and I sat with him and we laughed and laughed. Good for me because it took my mind off. We only had one problem. When it came to feeding him he would not eat and kept saying "where is Daniel" as they obviously always eat together. Choked me up.

I don't recognize that red plant. So I can't help with it's name. Sometimes our Rhody's bloom again toward fall. It's very strange when that happens. Congrats on the new car. It's always nice to trade up. My Toyota is a 1997 with 97,000 miles on it & I would love to have a little newer one, but now that I've retired, there's no money for car payments. So I'll just have to take it easy with this one. I do get the oil changed every 3,000 miles like they suggest and have it completely serviced at regular intervals. Linda in Washington state

I love the pictures, don't know what those plants are, but can't believe the Rhodies bloom twice over there, how nice. My tulip tree, sometimes called a magnolia, does though. Sounds like you had a nice day, I know it makes your heart warm when the littles love you like that. Joni
Oh, was the Martin Clunes thing the start of a series? I thought it was just one-off so didn't see it. Goody,I can watch next week. Love your mirror

Hello Sandra. Just popped in to say hello. Enjoyed the pictures of the stroll in the park. I have just had my car serviced, MOT'd, Two new tyres and the tracking done. It now runs like a new car again. No need to buy another one yet. DAN XXX

Loved the pictures! Good new on finding a newer make of car. Roman melts all our hearts hon! Jake looks healthy and happy. The break at the pub sounds romantic and serene. We all need those little moments to ourselves hear and there. (Hugs) Indigo
Hi Sandra !!!!!!!!
I am enjoying my weekend thank you. I was upset recently by a relative that said something about me that wasn't nice to someone that I know but I have been getting some good advice from all of my friends at J-Land. I am just going to ignore the person that I am related to and move on.
We have been getting some nice weather this weekend. I wish I could have joined you at the Pub and at the park but things keep me here. I too love coffee flavored ice cream and chocolate chip as well.
Do take care Sandra and I will visit you and your journal again soon.
I Love coffee flavoured ice cream, I used to make my own ~ heaven! I'm glad you got the roof done and was pleased with the builders, one hears of so many horror stories nowadays! I hope you enjoyed the gorgeous weather we had for most of last week, I was quite near you as I was staying in London all week. Jake looks a picture of health in the pics. I can't remember what the red berried plant is, I've seen them so often.I know the spiky one is a teasel, I used to make hedgehogs out of them when I was young! Hi there Sandra...it's the holiday here in the US...that means more time for me and time to check out some of my favorite journal pals. I miss you and several others. School has really zapped time, but so glad to come visit and see what you have been up to. Last I was here...you all were going to Russia.

Hello! Congratulations on your new car. I hope you will post a picture of it when you can. It's so much fun having a new car to drive. Something about it makes us feel younger, doesn't it? Good luck clearing your garden. Seems a shame all your beautiful flowers are already gone. They were so lovely.
Hugs, Kathy
Happy new car Sandra :o)

I enjoyed seeing Jake having fun in the lake. As for the Sculpture, Side something, I think it is neat... I like the free creative style. It is a sculpted version of a climbing vine, is my guess.
are you ok? I miss you!!!
lj
Catching up here. Congrats on the new car!!! How fun! A new car is like a toy to me too.
Have a good weekend.
Pam
Sorry I haven't been by in a while. Read a few entries. LOVE the pictures when you take Jake on the walk to the lake and he goes for a swim.Congratulations on your car. My car is 10 yrs old. It's almost like new and the mileage is low for it's age. It's a sportscar and I don't have a car payment and I don't want another one.LOL MY hubby and son keep telling me I need a new car. I keep saying I DON'T WANT A NEW CAR. LOL The photos you took on your walk are splendid Thanks for sharing. Have a good Sunday
