Another Trip to the Dentist

Hello Everyone,

I thought I`d report in after the weekend I`ve had. My mouth and jaw has got progressively worse and this morning I arrived on my dentist surgery doorstep at 9am sharp. My own dentist hadn`t arrived but his partner very kindly saw me staright away and told me that I have a DRY SOCKET and an infection in the bone. He prescribed some special mouthwashes and a course of penicillin capsules that are guaranteed to kill anything that is lurking in the space that was my tooth...lol! I have to confess that I`ve been beside myself with the pain and seriously began to wonder when the pain would ease. Despite taking some very strong painkillers the pain was constantly there and I`ve had no respite until this morning. The packing that the dentist put in certainly helps though it`ll need topping up in a day or two. Hopefully tonight I`ll get some well deserved sleep.

I still went for the family meal on Saturday and enjoyed the good company. The food was excellent but I could barely open my mouth to eat so I missed out on a great meal. I did however manage to eat dessert which was my favourite, Creme Brulee. That, it has to be said, went down very nicely indeed!

On Sunday, Jim and I took advantage of the nicer weather did some heavy duty gardening. Jim cleared the flower beds of weeds and dug in some more farm manure while I secured the trellis`s and extended some of them with garden wire. The nice, tidy garden made me realise that there are some places that needed to be filled with new plants and as you know, that will never do. My plan for the garden is that there are always several plants in flower at one given time so today I bought........

Agapanthus `Midnight Star` which flowers between July-September

Sidalcea `Little Princess` which flowers September-November

Coreopsis `Flying Saucers` which flowers June-November

All of them are very pretty, hardy and very easy to grow. I know exactly where to plant them and they`ll still be a couple more spaces...mmm, what shall I get next month I wonder?

I have lots of ideas in my head for Roman`s birthday party, though I have to have a plan B just in case the weather is bad on the day. One way or another it will still be a good party if I have anything to do with it.  There is so much to do as far as food preparation is concerned but it will be worth it in the end. Knowing me I`ll make far too much food and loads will be thrown away, I`d rather that though than not enough to go round leaving us with hungry guests!

I read in yesterday`s paper that Summer this year just isn`t going to happen, well I can`t say I`m at all surprised. I suppose we`d all better get used to having a year-round Winter, for 2007 at least. At least here in the South of England we don`t have the devasting floods that have hit Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. We did have a shock on Saturday when we were going to the restaurant. The river Thames has never looked quite so swollen for a long time and it was flowing very fast. Any more of the heavy rain we had on friday could be disastrous for those who live along it`s banks.

Danny has told me that he and Sal did try again but it`s definitely over now. He told me all the old problems are still there and they won`t go away now. I think he`s done the right thing for himself and Sal because one day they will both find the right person. I am sorry it didn`t work out because Jim and I are really fond of her, but in the pursuit of happiness you have to make the right choices and I want my son to be happy.

I must go now and take some more painkillers, then another antibiotic...and mouthwash.....I`m taking pills like sweets at the moment, I must rattle when I walk...lol!

Take care my friends. Bye Bye. :o)

I am so glad you went back to the dentist...my husband had a dry socket once, and ended up in the emergency room, due to the severeity of the pain...so he can relate!!!  Each day should get better...with proper treatment.  As I told Guido, we have been watching the floods from our US shores news reports.  So sad, summer was missed, and terrible flooding ocurred.  When will it end for all of you??  I pray soon.  Jim is doing a great job in the garden.  Roman, no matter what the plans, will have one awesome party.  I know you and Kerry will see to that!  And the men folk too!!
Hope you rest well, and feel better my friend.
Hugs and much love from Virginia!

Sandra
I'm glad to hear that you have not been affected yet by the floods.  Not being really sure where all my UK Journals friends live in relation to the flooding I am anxious to hear whether our J-Land friends are all okay.  My heart and prayers go out the all of those affected by this flooding.

I'm sorry you are having such a time of it because of your tooth extraction.  Thank goodness you went back today and got the penicillin.  Hoping for a good night's sleep for you tonight.

So glad you got the "root" of the trouble lol!  Seriously there is nothing like pain and tooth pain is amongst the worst. I hope you are taking it easy and getting some rest and that you will soon feel heaps better.  It has been teeming down here for the last five hours non-stop and they say it will not end until about 4 a.m.  Our garden is flooding, thankfully it can drain away.  Those poor devils without power, homes and drinking water.

So you had to go ahead and do what I did with my tooth extraction last summer anyway hummm. I am glad that you are getting better. I am not familiar with any of those flowers you mentioned getting. You will definately have to post some closeups of them so we here can see what you are refering to. I hope the party for Roman will come off smoothly. I am sure there will be plenty of pictures and maybe a movie or two to share with us. Sorry that things didn't work out between Danny and Sal. Helen

I know how you feel regarding your tooth.  I had to get my back molar taken out.  It took a good 4 months before everything healed up.  They found out the the root had infection, they dug right in, 5 shots of injections.  It was awful.  They had to make sure they got everybit of bone out, because it broke into pieces.  My jaw ached.  I wish they put me right under, because I felt it.. Hope they have taken everybit of your tooth out plus the root? even a tiny infected root can cause pain.

Hope you get well soon.  This rain in England is terrible..I have never known anything like it.

take care  shona

Ouch!  Dry sockets are no fun!  A tip I remember from working for a dentist is don't drink through a straw, and don't smoke - the drawing/sucking action loosens the clot, which causes dry socket.  I hope you feel better very soon!!

I'm so sorry you have been in pain all this time. At least the kids gave it one more go around to be sure. I'm beginning to think we are going to have a rough winter this year. It's the dryest, coldest summer I ever remember here in NY. (Hugs) Indigo

Awful pain...so sorry!!!!!  I have just read in 1001 things to use vinegar for that if you dip a wad of paper towel into vinegar and place it on the ache then bite down it numbs the pain......but I havent had to try it!  I bought a Sidalcea this afternoon for £ 2.99 in a small garden centre nearby. I had looked at one in Brechin Castle G C.but that was £ 5.99 so i didnt bother as I had already spent a fair bit on plants.  Do you know if the Coreopsis are perenial or was it a fluke that those i bought last year have survived and are flowering this year lol? Anyway  I bought more of them too a few weeks ago as last years are doing so well.  Hope flooding doesnt reach you ..poor people in the flooded areas ..what a nightmare for them. Eve

There is always a risk of dry socket when you have teeth pulled.  And you had to suffer all weekend, while the dentist was off golfing and having a good time.  I sure hope they get it under control soon.  Sorry about Dan & Sal, but it's better this way than getting married & then having problems.  But I know you're like me..you're his mom, you love him and you want him to be happy.  It breaks my heart that my handsome, kind son can't find a woman who will appreciate him.  they all seem to take advantage of his big heart and then they break it.  Linda in Washington state

That's a terrible thing to go though, you poor thing.  Why does something like that always happen on a weekend, when the dentist is out spending your money. Hah!
We've been hearing about the terrible rain in Englad, we also have had our share here in July.  Have fun planning your party for Roman, hope the weather cooperates.  Joni

Hi Sandra ,how awful you have had to go through all this pain ,hope you soon feel better ,you sound like you have been busy in the garden ,good luck with the birthday party for Roman .......Love Jeanxx

It sounds as if Danny is in a better frame of mind about his break-up with Sal now that, having tried again, he has n illusions about 'what might have been'.  Good, they'll both be able to go forward now, and so will you.  Sorry your extraction went so wrong.  The Antibiotics will have it cleared in no time and hopefully it will be just a bad dream.
Love, Angie, xx
