Hello Everyone,
I`ve been wanting to post an entry for the last few days but something always happens to stop me so I`m doing it now as I won`t have time tomorrow! It`s been a strange week one way or another with things happening all around me. The house has been very quiet...and tidy with Danny in Cuba for the week..a bit strange on Friday though as it was his 30th birthday and he wasn`t here for it so I just hope he`s having a wonderful holiday out there. A nephew of ours has been there and he told us it`s a great place for a holiday and he enjoyed every minute of it.
The weather has been wet and cold all week, except yesterday which I suppose must been we`re getting April weather in May after last month`s Summery days. Hopefully on Monday I`ll buy my summer bedding plants and keep them in the greenhouse until I think it`s time to plant them out. The heavy rain was very welcome in the garden, not just for the plants but the weeds as well so I`ll have to get out there soon and get rid of them soon...sigh. That`s one part of gardening that I don`t particularly enjoy...oh well it must be done.
On Thursday I took Jake to the vet for his annual booster and health check. When I arrived the vet nurse told me that she had tried to contact me to cancel because the vet was operating on an emergency. A German Shepherd ex-police dog was badly savaged by two Mastiffs that had escaped from their garden. The attack lasted 30mins and the poor GSD almost has his throat torn out, two of his ribs half eaten and his back and legs badly chewed. The vet called in the RSPCA who took photos of the dogs wounds and hopefully action will be taken against the dogs owners. There have been several articles in the local paper about attacks by these dogs but this time was the most serious of them all. Luckily the GSD survived surgery and my vet said it was just a question of `wait and see`. Being police trained and a big butch dog helped because a smaller and less tough breed wouldn`t have survived at all. Later on when I

Don't wait to check on those chest pains..it's better to be safe than sorry. I hope your weather clears up. I was over at the garden center again today and saw the most beautiful hanging baskets ...but I don't have anywhere else to hang one. I have some low branches on the big cedar tree out front and the one with pick flowers would be beautiful there but am afraid if I hang one out there it will develop legs during the night and "walk away." Take care...Linda in Washington
How awful for that German Shepherd!! I used to have one and they are a tough breed, that's for sure! But, WOW! I hope it's going to be ok.
Sandra, don't mess around when it comes to chest pain. It might be muscular, but if it isn't, you must get it checked. It might be as simple as taking a pill for angina. But, do get it checked soon. Don't want any permanent damage if it is indeed NOT muscular!
Hope you have good night.
Pam
That is so sad that those dogs attacked that one. I hope they do something about it. Could have as well been a child and the same thing might have happened. Sorry that your curtains didn't work out. Hope you and Jim have a great time at the Kew Gardens. Looking forward to seeing the pictures you take. Helen
Get those chest pains checked, please! Don't put it off!!!
Hate to hear about the dog, hope he pulls through ok, will say a little prayer for hiom today.

Hi Sandra, loved reading your journal as usual. I can only say what the others have said about the chest pains, you should always get them checked out. Better to be safe than sorry. How awful for the dog, his quality of life will never be the same I'm sure, so sad.
Have a good day at Kew tomorrow, it's years since I've been there, do you remember that for years it only cost one penny to get in, a lot more than that now though!! I may have to ask your advice on orchids, I have one that was in flower when it was given to me last year and now there are just leaves, I'd like to know if it will flower again, shame if it doesn't. ~~~ Pat http://journals.aol.co.uk/pm71blackfen/ramblings-from-pat/edit

Enjoy your day at Kew. Eileenx
Sandra, please go to the doctor as soon as possible. My friend was getting niggly chest pains and she had a heart attack and died. I don't want to frighten you but you do need to check it out to see if it's muscular or not. Enjoy the day at Kew, my mum and dad used to take us there regularly. I'm sorry about the police dog, poor soul, I could almost feel it. I hope he'll recover. I bet Danny had a great birthday in Cuba! I hope you have a wonderful time at Kew gardens.
Also, if you have been overdoing things at work, I hope you are soon all right.
I was ever so sad to here that the poor animal had to be subjected to being savaged by the two dogs you mentioned. I do hope it pulls through and gets better from it's ordeal.

Sorry to hear about the German Shepard. I know here in the states the penalty of harming a working dog is as stiff as if you had harmed a human. I hope it's the same there. Not just the dogs, but the owners are to blame for this tradegy. (Hugs) Indigo
