Hello Everyone,
It`s been another cold and wet day again here, and as if to rub salt in the wound, the sun is shining now the day is more or less over....grrrrr!
It was really slow at work with only the bravest of customers venturing out, most of them complaining about the weather and how bad it makes them feel...hmm. I know what they mean but the weather is something we can`t control and I suppose we just have to get on with it, at least the water board won`t be slapping a drought order on us this year...lol!
Just as I was about to leave work Jim turned up to buy me lunch and I wasn`t even expecting him home until after 3pm. We had a nice lunch in the garden centre cafe and then I did some plant shopping.....yes, again! Right next to the cafe is the houseplant dept. and I decided to have a look at the orchids as I haven`t been near them in ages. Of course it was a wrong move as I saw a real beauty sitting there just asking to be bought and taken home. It`s an absolute beauty as I`m sure you`ll agree and along with the new pot that I bought, it now has pride of place on the living room sideboard.
Isn`t it a beauty?
It`s a Miltonia but is more commonly known as a pansy orchid because of the shape of it`s flowers. I`ve had my eye on one in Marks&Spencer but even when they discounted it it was still far too expensive. This one already had £3 of the original price and I had my discount on top of that so it was a real bargain, if I had more room I`d buy another but every window sill in the house has an orchid, apart from Danny`s room....now there`s a thought...lol!
Jim took this photo of the Canada geese family while he was fishing yesterday.
I really want to get out in the garden and plant out all of the summer bedding but it will have to wait until a) it stops raining for at least a day and b) that it warms up a little. I don`t want to plant them and they all fail because of the cold. The garden looks really green and overgrown and there has been some weather damage too. Yesterday morning I had to re-stake my beautiful peony that had been flattened. I wouldn`t have minded but I had it staked really well but the stakes had been pulled out of the ground by the force of the wind and rain. The magnolia had several small branches blown down and many of it leaves are spread all over the garden. At least I`ll have some stuff to put in the composter, which I might add, is filling up nicely and will be ready to be dug into the garden by the Spring if it carries on the way it is.
I don`t know if I`ve ever mentioned the blue tits that have been nesting in the box on the house wall. If been watching the parent birds flying backwards and forwards to the tree where the feeders hang and we could all hear the baby birds cheeping get louder and louder. Yesterday however, I couldn`t hear them at all, neither could I today so I think the family have flown away for good. I haven`t even seen the parents at all since and it looks as though sparrows have taken their places at the seed feeders. It`s a shame because I`ve been trying to get a photo of the young as they took their maiden flight but I`ve missed it all...oh well.
Jake has to go to the vet tomorrow, he stopped limping once the Rymadil kicked in so I stopped the tablets and the limp has returned. He`s only had a very short lead walk yesterday and nothing more today. He doesn`t seem to want to go out which isn`t at like Jake so we have to find outwhat`s going on with him. I do wonder if he`ll mind the vet to handle his leg, he didn`t like having his booster injection but then again he`s a real baby, not like our tough Hannah who never flinched her whole life and practically laughed in the face of pain...hmm, typical male...lol!
I was going to show you a photo of my new curtains but AOL wouldn`t let me, they said the file size was too big , as was the close-up photo of my new orchid. I`ll have to try another format and see if it will work that way. I hope you`re all having a nice week and with better weather than here. Take care my friends and I`ll be back soon. Bye for now.:o)

Your new orchid is beautiful. Those geese and babies were pretty also. Poor Jake. I hope something can be done about his leg. It's still hot and dry here with a lot of smoke blowing in from those wild fires in South Georgia and Florida. I have been staying mostly inside and keeping Patches in a lot also. It is difficult to breathe it. Helen

I love your pictures today! The Orchid is really beautiful! What a nice job to have that you work with beautiful things like this. And the Geese with their babies was great to see. I loved those pics. Sorry the weather is bad. Send some rain my way. We're dry as a bone here. Sorry Jake is not feeling good. Give him a pat on the head for me, ok? Poor baby.
Have a great evening...Pam

The orchid looks like velvet - beautiful! Have gardening probs here too, nothing to do with wind and rain though, it's a wilderness. No-one would ever believe I used to be a keen gardener, before I got health probs. Posted some pics of flowers in back garden on photo journal and a comment was left asking, "are these wildflowers or is it just wild garden?" No comment lol. Love Jim's pics of the geese family. Take care.
Love Sylvia xx
Ahhhh, poor Jake...my prayers go out to him, and please keep us updated...trying hard to catch up with everyone...

I have a Miltonia too! I bought it off of the Buy or Die Table at the garden centre. It had just finished blooming so I have a long wait for it to bloom again. Yours looks to be about the same shade as mine! Pretty soon you will be known as the Orchid Lady!

Your orchid is lovely. Such a beautiful shade of purple!
I love the pictures of the geese and their babies. How wonderful it must be to see them up close. I don't think I've ever seen a baby goose before. I do hope Jake's paw heals well and he's over the limping soon. It's so sad they can't tell us what's wrong.
Hugs, Kathy
Sorry to hear about the yucky weather. We've had very warm days and thunderstorms at night. It's rained the last two nights and our town is looking greener and lovelier than it usually does this time of year. We usually have a little over 4 inches of precipitation this time of year. As of 2 days ago we have already had over FOURTEEN inches!!! I think our annual average rainfall is about 17". LOL
I'm sorry to hear poor Jakie is limping. My Jake (and Frodo) got a trip to the groomers. I want them in my lap all the time after the groomers, they smell SO good and are SO soft. How sweet of your hubby to take you out for a lunch and a new orchid, which is just beautiful. I have such a brown thumb I'm afraid it'd be a goner before I got it home. LOL
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Barb
