Brrrr....it`s Cold Outside!

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to a freezing cold Tuesday eveining here in South East England. Wow...this cold spell has really blown in with a vengence, Jim said it was minus 5 when he got up for work this morning. At 9.30 when I left for work I had to scrape my windscreen...inside as well as out, I`ve never had to do that before. When I got home this afternoon I took the precaution of covering my windscreen with an all weather cover that I bought last year to keep the sun off.  Severe weather warnings have been issued for tomorrow all over the country, so it looks like more snow.....and I hope it does, even though I have to drive to work, I want to enjoy it while it lasts.

This cute graphic represents Jim who is once more full of cold. he seems to get one after another just lately and I seem to be able to avoid them, though I think I`m going down with one this time. I`m sure that the zinc I`m taking regularly this winter is helping a lot. I usually get more colds but I seem to be much healthier this season, I wonder if it`s because I work in a healthier environment? There`s no heating and I`m outside a lot but I have excellent work clothes that keep me warm. The air is fresh because it`s in the countryside...yes, it has to be a great help Anyway, Jim is downstairs in the armchair looking very sorry for himself, the way that men often do with a cold. I`ve decided to leave him to watch the football as I want to keep away from the germs...and the footie...lol!

I bought some winter fleec to cover some of my more delicate plants in the garden. he camellias are more advanced than is usual for the time of  year and if the frost gets to the buds I won`t see any flowers on it this year. I also covered the magnolia `Susan` as it`s not a very mature plant and I want it to survive the winter. I think everything else should be ok...fingers crossed.

Yesterday I went shopping with Kerry, I say shopping because I had no intention of buying anything, but then you know what they say about good intentions...lol! I had been really good until the last store that we visited, Debenhams. It was there that I saw the jacket....chocolate brown, quilted but not bulky with a hood and cuffs that were trimmed with (fake) fur.  It was a vision of loveliness so I looked at the price tag and that made my mind up for me. It was reduced from £60 to £18...it was meant to be mine.....and several minutes later it was. I can`t wait to wear it, it will be perfect in the freezing weather......now what can I buy next......?!!!!!!

I forgot to tell you about my dishwasher that Jim broke, well it turns out he didn`t actually break it. It was a coincidence that it went wrong when he used the wrong detergent in it. I didn`t tell you that did I?  lol!  We had so many bubbles in the kitchen that it looked like a scene from a comedy, not that I thought it was funny at the time. Anyway, it has finally been repaired with a brand new pump and motor so it`s almost like a brand new machine. The engineer told me that the machine is one of the best you can buy even though it`s not a famous brand or very expensive. Because it`s quite a basic model it doesn`t have too many things that can go wrong and it should go on working for years to come, I`m very pleased to hear it too.

Did I mention the other day that we lost a roof tile in the gales? Well the chap who has been going to fix it still hasn`t arrived to do the job. First it was going to be Monday, then today and he didn`t even call with an excuse. Jim`s going to give him one more chance and then he can forget it, there`s always someone else who can do it. Anyway I want to read some journals now, I`m getting behind as I always do in the week. I hope to catch up with you all by tomorrow. Have a lovely evening and wrap up warm against the cold tomorrow.  Cheerio. :o)

PS:  Rat hasn`t been seen again, maybe he`s gone for good!

I like the idea about the Camellia; I am going to give it a try. Our shrub has six or seven flowers out and, now that the frost has come, the flowers are rotting.

I hope Jim is feeling better soon.

By for now,

John.

Sandra, could you please tell me the name of the dishwasher that you have?  We are going to shop for one this weekend and I know nothing about UK brands.  My dishwasher back in the states lasted 28 years!  I finally chucked it out because it leaked about a cup os water each time I used it.

So glad the rat is gone!  I hope that Jim feels better soon.  Poor sickly man!

Love,
Susie

Our Camellia up here in Lincolnshire was in heavy bud before Christmas and is, as we speak, covered in beautiful pink flowers and more buds to come out yet.  I fear for it if the bad weather comes.  The winter jasmine hasn't been very thrilling this season though.  When I was a cook in an Old Folks' home the night staff used to regularly let an insomniac resident who didn't speak English do the washing up and invariably she would put Fairy Liquid in the dishwasher.  Mess innit! Love, Angie, x

I know you are looking forward to spring, just like we are...I always think of Jim, when I think of my son working at the airport.  My son has had many a cold, and spends so much time out in the cold.  Wishing Jim well.  Love the bear tag...that is so cute, can I snag??  I am looking forward to seeing all of your pretty flowers this spring and summer...you have the jump on us with your pretty indoor plants...I do hope your outdoor plants survive the cold.  I bet that coat looks pretty on you...sounds very nice.  Hope you have a lovely closing end of the week...hugs and love,
Joyce

It seems being outside in the fresh air has been good to keep the colds away! There is definatley something to be said for being cooped up inside all day with a heater running and who knows what germs that probably made Jim sick!  I can just see your kitchen overflowing with bublbes!!!!

Hi Sandra. Loved all your comment , yes the snow have really hit everyone qiet hard.  It great for Idris and I that we haven't got to get up early and get out to work anymore, we have certainly done our share at that over the years. Burr Burrr. We can just look out side and watch all the younger people doing what you had to do, scrapping the cars down and hoping that the car will start to get to work. Keep warm and try hard not to do too much. Kathie.
