Poorly Me!

Hello everyone,

So much for heat exhaustion, it`s more like a virus because now I have a really bad throat and I`m sure I`m getting a cold.  I wanted to tell you all my news ( I actually have some!) but I just don`t have the energy today.  Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and will post a proper entry.  I`m sorry but I won`t be reading many journals tonight either but I`ll do what I can.  Have a nice evening, Bye Bye for now. :o)

More Photos

Hi Everyone,

Just another photo entry tonight.  I`m not feeling too well today with a rotten headache and an upset stomach.  I think it`s probably just a bit of heat exhaustion but I`m feeling shattered.  I hope you like the photos I took of Roman yesterday and I`ll tell you all about Jim`s fishing trip tomorrow, hopefully.  Have a nice evening and try to keep cool.  Bye Bye for now.:o)

A Fishy Tale

Hello everyone,

Whew...what a scorcher it`s been today. I don`t know exactly how hot it is but it has to be in the top 80`s.  At the moment I can stand the heat but I`d prefer it if it didn`t get any hotter.   Jim has left me today to go to sea with his mates, not to take the Queen`s shilling but to see if he can catch some fish for the freezer.  I think he must be on his way home now as I`m sure he said they get back to port at about 4pm, hopefully with a cool box bursting with fish...I`ll let you know tomorrow.

This morning early I took my car for it`s MOT, thankfully it passed and I even got a discount because I found a voucher in the paper for a different garage from my usual offering £15 off the usual price, that gets me every time!  I chatted to the cheerful receptionist there who managed to tell me her life story in the 30 mins that I was there...Oh well, it helped to pass the time!

Do you remember that I told you about my neighbour B?  He is a very lonely single man who lived with his Mum and brother.  Well this morning I found a handwritten note that had been pushed through the door, it was from B telling us that his Mum had passed away from Leukemia on the 3rd July.  The poor man,  I felt so sorry for him, if only we`d known before we could have at least sent flowers.  Later this morning I saw him went I went to buy a newspaper and we had a chat outside the shop.  Naturally he is deeply upset and completely lost and is even worried that his council owned house may be taken away from him now.  He told me that a local councillor has told him it isn`t likely that will happen and is looking into it for him,  I would be a scandal if he and his brother are moved from the only home they`ve ever known, after all, it`s only a tiny house and not big enough for a family.  I asked him if he`d thought of joining a church group and he said that his minister had suggested a singles group at the church hall and he`s going to give it a try.  I do hope he will adjust to his new circumstances, he does deserve some happiness in his life.

Yesterday I was ironing for over 3 hours and in this heat it wasn`t easy, I can tell you.  I had to keep stopping and having a rest, then starting again.  I never thought I would get finished.  That`s the thing with Summer, we change our clothes more often and they are usually made of materials that have to be ironed.  I wish somebody could invent a fabric that was light, comfortable and would definitely NOT need ironing.

Kerry and Roman were here this afternoon, we didn`t sit in the garden as there were swarms of flying ants about and any way it was cooler for Roman inside.  The little scamp has several bumps on his head that he has collected over the weekend, but as I said to Kerry, this is just the beginning!  I have to move everything now and once he`s set his heart of something he flies across the room with me or Kerry in hot pursuit, it`s only a matter of time before something get`s broken.  He almost had the fruit bowl off the sideboard this afternoon and wasn`t impressed when it was moved beyond his reach.

One of my new roses has flowered but I want to wait for another day of so before I take a photo of it, there are so many buds and I think it`s going to be gorgeous when they all open.  Jim has just got home and he`s put the camera down beside me, obviously that means photos for tomorrow and judging by the colour of him the weather was excellent too, he`s as brown as a nut...I wish I went that colour in the sun, I`m brown but not THAT brown.  Right,  I`d better go and see how he got on today and ask if he wants help gutting the fish...no, I was only joking, there`s no chance I`ll be doing that...lol!  I hope you`ve all had a lovely day.  Take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

Sun Hats and Parasols

Hello everyone,

I hope you`ve all been having a great day.  It`s been really nice and sunny here and if the weather forecast is to be believed it`s going to get much hotter too.  This morning I went into town with Kerry as usual for a Friday.  We went into M&S for our coffee while Roman spent most of the time trying to grab our coffee and everything else on the table.  He settled down eventually with a cup of milk and a fig roll, very easily pleased is our Roman....sometimes.

Just after I got home there was a loud knock on the door, when I opened the door there was a large box on the doorstep which contained a rose that I had ordered on Tuesday afternoon.  It is called Rosa Nahema and it is a deep pink climbing rose that is heavily scented.  I must admit to paying a little more than I had intended for it but I think it will be worth it when the buds open soon, that`s another photo oppotunity for me!

This afternoon Kerry and I went for what should have been a nice peaceful walk, leaving Jake at home because of the hot sun.  Roman had on his factor 50 sunscreen and was completely shaded by the parasol on the pushchair and his sun hat.  We had walked about a mile when Kerry noticed that Roman`s sun hat was gone so we decided  that it would still be there on the way home and continued with the walk.  It was really nice walking through the countryside; we were chatting, the birds...and Roman were singing, it was almost perfect.  Just at that moment Roman`s parasol collapsed, or should I say Roman collapsed it himself.  We discovered that by slowly picking at it from the inside he had broken the struts that held the thing together.  I know he`s strong but that`s ridiculous.   I`m going to call him Bam Bam in future...lol!  On the walk back a man who was doing his gardening called out to me and asked were we looking for a baby`s sun hat?  He had found it just after we`d passed his house and he was looking out for us...what a nice man!  We had only walked another 300 yds when Kerry realised that Roman had lost the hat again, it was left to Nanna Sandra to go and get it and this time he wouldn`t be losing it again as Kerry had confiscated it and he was still shaded by the broken parasol that I was holding over the pushchair.  By the time I got home I was exhausted and I`d completely forgotten just how much trouble a little person can cause...lol!

This evening we had a phone call from Danny who in Egypt on holiday.  They arrived there yesterday morning and they are having a great time.  He told me that it is extremely hot there and he got sunburned despite being very careful.  He says he resembles a lobster while his girlfriend S has turned much darker than her natural colour.  He has lots of activities lined up and tomorrow they are going quad-biking, sounds like fun if you`re only twenty-something I suppose!  On Sunday they are going to Cairo for the day as Danny wants to see the museums there and I`ve forgotten most of what he told me but I know they`re going to be very busy all week.  I hope he`s taken his camera with him but knowing him I doubt it.  I can only hope S has taken hers and then I can scrounge some photos from her to share with you.  Danny did say the hotel staff are very polite and friendly and can`t do enough for you and is very impressed with everything so far.  My one little worry is the troubles in the Middle East but I`m sure they`ll be ok.

Well, that`s it from me, I`ll say Goodbye now and I hope you all have a great weekend.  :o))

Trollies and Toolbars

Hello everyone,

Two nights running without any problems...AOL must be doing something right!  It seemed to be a pretty ordinary Thursday for me, up at the crack of dawn, in Tesco`s at 7.45am.  Everything was going really smoothly until about halfway around Tesco I ran the trolley over two of my toes, not deliberately of course!   I was in so much pain I felt sick and couldn`t breathe properly for a moment.  Of course when you are in a public place the last thing you can do is scream and how I didn`t I have no idea.  I had to stand still until the pain had eased and then I hobbled around the store to finish the shopping, at the same time being very careful where I put my feet.  One of my toes is badly bruised and it is very tender so I shall be very careful in future.

After shopping I took Jake for a walk and decided to take him to the vet to see if he`d lost any weight.  It turned out that he`d lost 2 kilos, about 4 and a quarter pounds and I don`t think he needs to lose anymore.  In actual fact, I didn`t think he needed to lose any at all but the vet said he was slightly overweight so I reduced his food a bit.  He didn`t need his exercise increased because he gets plenty of it and because he has mild hip displasia it could be bad for him.  When we got home I made myself a coffee and Jake lay down at my side.  Suddenly there was a noise in the garden and Jake dived under my chair for safety.  The noise turned out to be a bucket that overturned in a gust of wind...hmmm, good job we didn`t have an intruder with my scaredy-cat pooch...lol!

Yesterday Jim brought a bag of toys and books home for Roman.  They belonged to my SIL`s grandchildren and were in perfect condition.  The books are really good ones and Kerry was really pleased with them.  One of the toys, a Winnie the Pooh ball was chewed to bits by Jake after Roman dropped it on the floor while we weren`t watching.  Jake must have seen it fall and took it outside on the lawn where I caught him red-pawed with his ill-gotten gains. He was in disgrace for at least 10 minutes...lol!

I didn`t mention yesterday when I was having my moan about AOL but all my favourites on my tool bar had disappeared when I was having the problems.  I only noticed when I went to open my journal and found the link was no longer there....it`s all very odd.  Now I`ve had to go looking for the sites that I had there and put them back again.  Right, that`s it from me tonight but I have a few funny kids jokes to share with you.  They are all very silly but that`s the point really!  Have a lovely evening, take care and Bye Bye for now. :o)

I`m Here at Last!!!!

Hello everyone,

I`ve made it here at last.  AOL have been giving me a really hard time since early yesterday evening, not allowing me access to anything, not my journal or anyone else`s.  I kept getting the message that my emails weren`t available so in the end I gave up and logged off.  Even this morning it took me ages to get online and just now four attempts to open my journal...grrr!

I`ve finished reading `Marley and Me` and I have to tell you that the last two chapters were really hard to read, I could hardly see the words for my tears as I read of Marley`s slow but steady decline. The book has everything, humour, happiness, embarrassment, sadness, but most of all a deep love between master and dog.  If you are a dog lover, Marley and Me is a must, and as I`ve said before, the author John Grogan is an American so it is available in the States. I promise you won`t be disappointed but you will not be dry-eyed at the end.

It`s really hot again today which means the plants needed watering and I was sorely tempted to use the hosepipe despite there being a ban, but I decided against it as the thought of a huge fine was much worse than the continous lugging around of watering cans.  I`m really hoping that this coming Winter will be wet enough to replenish our reservoirs so this doesn`t happen next year.  Oh yes, and that the Water Board will get their act together and do something about the water THEY are losing for us and then upping the water rates......flamin` cheek!

Yesterday I went to Teddies Club with Kerry and Roman in the morning and had great fun with Roman and some of the other babies there.  One little boy, who is just a bit younger than Roman took a liking to the diamante clasp on my slip on sandals and decided that it was more fun to play with that than the toys provided.  Another little girl took a shine to my handbag and kept disappearing under my chair trying to reach it.  I love to watch the little angels, they are so sweet and innocent at that age.  I hope their Mums appreciate every moment of their babyhood because it goes by in the blink of an eye.  It seems only yesterday that my two were babies......sigh.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Uxbridge with Kerry purely for something to do.  It is always nice to go there because it has a good shopping centre and High Street, not to crowded but with plenty going on, much nicer than our home town of Slough, which is in decline since Tesco`s opened it`s giant super-dooper store.  We just pottered about and I found a nice little sleeveless T-shirt for Roman for only £2, I`m afraid I just can`t resist buying things for him whenever I`m out, even if it`s just something small...I`ll never get rich at this rate....lol!  We ended up in our favourite coffee shop BB`s and each had an iced cappuchino that was absolutely delicious.

Anyway my friends, I`m going to say goodbye now and try to read some journals...if AOL will let me that is.  If I haven`t commented on your journal in the last couple of days I do apologise but please blame AOL not me...I have only the best intentions...lol!  I hope you`ve all had a lovely day, take good care and Bye Bye for now. :o)
