This is the best view of the World Bank and CN Tower that there is in Toronto.
TORONTO Sunday 14th and Monday 15th Anugust.
I have to say that we were very impressed with Totonto. Being only used to London I was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely clean and well thought out city that you can walk around in safety, I have never felt so relaxed, even walking at night.
On our first evening we went out to get something to eat, we had a really good flight with British Airways but no food except for sandwiches bought with the vouchers they gave us, and we were bordering on starving....lol! We were to find out just how wonderful the food in Canada was. After that we decided to explore the city and we walked around for hours and took in the vibrancy of the place. As our holiday was a coach tour we had a city tour in the morning at 9am ( we will get used to there early mornings as you will find out later!) We got to find out the history of Toronto and saw the excellent architecture of the city. Jason our guide was very quick witted and gave us lessons on Canada without us even realising! We were taken along the edge of Lake Ontario, the smallest of the Great Lakes, ( The smallest...?. I must see the biggest then!). It is like the sea, and so beautiful too.
A view of Lake Ontario taken from the CN Tower
I really wanted to go on a boat trip but we didn`t have the time. Later we went past the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the world, all 1,800 feet of it. Later Jim and I got to go to the top of it where he took the photo above. We were told that the glass floor of the tower was built to withstand the weight of fourteen hippos, I wish I had been there when they tested it....it must have been really difficult getting those hippos up there....lol!
The CN Tower
We moved on to the underground shopping malls that go on for miles. They are all owned by the banks there and are very well kept, I made a note to return and do some retail therapy on our way to the tower. We stopped in one of the malls to have coffee and a cinnamon bun...hmmmm great coffee and delicious cakes, I`m liking Canada more and more and it`s only the second day! We moved on after this to see an unusual building, it`s actually gold in colour and is actually made of gold, well there is an ounce of gold in every window so that it shines and stands out from the others. It belongs to one of the major banks in Canada and is quite something. Apparently in looks even better when the snow is on the ground when it is dazzling.
We took this with the automatic setting on our camera at the bottom of the tower.
In the afternoon we had some free time and went shopping and visited the tower and by the time we took this photo we were weary and footsore. I had blisters ontop of blisters and had to and by some plasters for my poor feet. We walked slowly back to the hotel and repacked our cases for the move tomorrow. It will be the train journey of a lifetime. Suitcases outside out rooms by 7.30am and in the coach to the station by 8.30am.
Ottawa here we come!
to be continued.
PS: Just to update you on the mouse situation. He hasn`t gone. Last night while watching TV it ran across the room and, I`m ashamed to say caused me to scream and jump on the sofa! Well that`s it, the gloves are off....mouse war has begun!

Sandra lovely pictures good reading...anymore pictures please...We have some field mice in the woodpile just outside my bedroom window I just love to watch them, they are so tiny and very pretty...field mice are protected, and as long as they keep in the woodpile they are very welcome. but can just imagine you jumping up onto the sofa- it was probably more frightened of you than you of it...Ally
Oh I see the mouse has returned. Best of luck. I thought I heard a noise earlier. Now I know it was your screaming. LOL.
Love the pics....I am enjoying this. Aren't the Great Lakes incredible?
I will only see Canada thru you unless I can talk Hubby into taking me some day.

Hey Sandra long time no read LOL..........Fab photos sounds like you were having a great time - I can't wait to read more :-)
Wonderful pictures Sandra and I had to laugh at the hippos. You certainly had a wonderful time. If must confess if I could go to Canada I would want to see the great outdoors, all those forests and wildlife although cities are o.k. Guess it is because I have not been to one for a long time and have always been a country girl at heart. As for the mouse, buy one of those humane mousetraps, bait it and when you get the mouse, take it out somewhere and release it, it probably is just a little fieldmouse. Looking foward to reading about your next stop.
I love the photos Sandra. You did a good job telling about your vacation. Looking forward to seeing & hearing more about it. I sure missed you while you were gone and was hoping you and Jim were having a great time. Helen
Good to have you back Sandra, Glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to go to Canada one day. I loved reading about your tour so far, can't wait for the next episode!! I'm sure Jake will protect you from that mouse! Jeannette.

Your documentary of Toronto is detailed with one point of interest flowing into the next. I enjoyed knowing about the glass windows containing gold, and the underground shops that must be a winter time warm environment. Enjoyed seeing the picture of you and your hubby. There is a train that runs across Canada that must be spectacular with scenery of wilderness and mountains. My parents and friends took a tour of the Canadian Rockies years ago. Time to set a mouse trap. Take care, mark
I am enjoying my tour of Canada, lovely pics too. Thanks.
Sylvia
